Probably because it just look better to not have a numpad and it allows more room for speakers, cooling and other features. It’s also sort of a rarer need nowadays.

@@kevlally But couldn't you just get a external numpad? I looked at a bunch of high end professional laptops and was super annoyed most of them in that group do feature a numpad. If you dont use it, it takes up so much space.

I love Eluktronics and upgrade to this and it blows my desktop (2080ti) out of the water! My other Eluktronics laptop still going strong and runs like new. This brand is the BEST!!!

Just a note for anyone trying to buy this...When I first got it it ran hot and the cables where hot. I found out the fans weren't turning because a cable was blocking it, I had to open it and move the cable. Great overall but disappointed that this wasn't checked before shipping.

Design. They are just plain silly. Form follows & is function. The legion 5i is the best design I've seen so far but I would prefer the 3000x2000 Microsoft style display at 90Hz

I’m thinking a 12900H + 3080 Ti combo with this external cooler. Possibly swapping out the fan in the external cooler with a Noctua for reduced noise? Edit: Actually looked into this company and they don’t charge sales tax in my state!

I have the i7 + 3080ti version. Even with current fan, noise is fine (not whisper quiet, but quiet enough that swapping fans has not ben needed yet)

By replacing heatsinks with the nessecary tubes for the watercooler, you basically render it useless without the additional acessory. At this point, buy a desktop pc or an external gpu instead. At least your Laptop wont be crippled without the additional cooler and you can still use it as a mobile device.

it does have regular heatsinks, the watercooler heatpipe is soldered OVER the regular heatpipes, is clearly visible when Matthew shows the internals.

@@martindione386 I meant that inevitably space has been used to integrate the nessecary components for the water cooling, which could be used for (more) traditional cooling instead. My worries are that this might hinder its performance without the cooler and a better compromise between mobility and performance could probably be achieved with an external gpu instead

Did you run into issues with it blackscreening? I'm looking into the US-branded equivalent (Eluktronics MECH-15 G3R) and recently there've been a lot of reports of it crashing, blackscreening, locking up, and failing to power on.

The problem with making a laptop this stationary is that lots of people will end up treating it like a desktop. A high percent of users don't have their set ups in a test bench environment and will most likely just leave it plugged in and not bother disconnecting that water cooler due to lack. of space or worrying about spillages, due to its price. If you spend the same on an actual desktop and monitor, youll get more performance. Not saying nobody would like this but I think the first step would be improving the water cooling connector maybe.

I bought the 2022 G14 but returned it due to the high pitch fans that triggered my tinnitus. The fan volume wasn't that big of a deal but the high pitch noise was too much and apparently exists in pretty much all gaming laptops This laptop would be perfect for me but I am not sure if I would want to pull the trigger for something like this Might just stay in the ultrabook territory

According to MobileTechReview, the Lenovo Legion 5 Pro's fan noise is much more comfortable than the Zephyrus G15. Apparently less high-pitched.

But the trackpad and speakers are the best a laptop can offer

No. We recommend using industry-grade distilled water with XMG OASIS. Other liquid solutions that are specifically made for PC liquid cooling are not recommended because their chemical additives might accelerate the wear and tear of some of the materials used in XMG OASIS, especially some of the plastics. Using any inappropriate solution might cause voiding the warranty coverage. Mixing different products is NOT recommended - neither on a trial basis nor spread out over a longer period of time - as mixing different additives can lead to undesirable side effects. Once you have initially decided on a product, you should stick with that product. You should NEVER fill in tap water, mineral water or any other food liquid - not even as a test. Once a liquid has been filled in, some traces are likely to remain in the system and cannot be removed. Liquids that are not explicitly recommended for use with PC liquid cooling will inevitably cause organic substances, minerals, and other contamination to accumulate. In the long term, this might cause clogging, reduced thermal efficiency, galvanic corrosion, or other system failures. // Tom

@@xmg_gg yeah but that doesn't make it justified for pricing a 3070ti laptop for 2700€ without the cooling unit! Many other brands sell it for far less. One can even get Alienware for cheaper

@@arky9002 Consider the 32GB DDR5 and 1TB SSD. You don't *have* to take such components, you can configure the laptop with less. If you check out price comparison engines and filter for RTX 3070 Ti with 32GB and 1TB, you will find the lowest price is HP Omen 16 at 2199€ (so only 500€ less, plus operating system), but with the following disadvantages: only 165Hz, no number pad, smaller battery, higher weight, no mechanical keyboard. And of course no support for liquid cooling. So we are not *that* far away from the multi-national brands. But we can also do less. Our XMG APEX series with AMD Ryzen 5000 is currently on discount with RTX 3070 in the "20 years, 20 percent" campaign until June 15. // Tom

Beware, that tech reviewers are influencing the deletion of number pads from new laptops, e.g., the new Dell Inspiron 16. Good reviewers try to be as inclusive as they can, even if their personal preferences differ - but most just push what they want.

I love all the people that say "just buy a desktop" - totally missing the point... the top-spec of this laptop can give you desktop performance with desktop temperatures and yet you still have the ability to unplug it and take it around your house or take in on the go.

My country also sold the external cooling fan and it's quite affordable. Ofc ours isn't XMG but still, it is quite good for the price. Although the laptop part can be won't come cheap but considering the cooling I say this is solid if you want to try it out.

What do I hate about most gaming PCs? Size, ugly, like that thing on your desk. Pretty ugly. They run Windoze. Klunky. Stupid lights. Usually cheaply made. When I was a kid we were too poor for air conditioning. We used to have this stupid fan that worked like you high tech fan there. With water. Needless to say it didn’t work.
