I really wouldn’t mind draining it at all. Just keep a nice cloth near your desk. It takes like 10 seconds for way way better temps and better performance. 100% worth it. I hope more laptops do this. Being able to costuming your own water loop would be really cool and fun too. Maybe they can sell the adapter that connects to it and the chip and let people get a bigger radiator and the fans they like and different cases. This truly would be the best of both worlds. Portable power but a great desktop experience. I love this idea.
@MrAwesomeTony

I think what they need change for the next gen is that before you disconnect, it should have a button that you can press, which will suck all the water out of the laptop loop, so no mess could be make. Maybe even pressure lock the loop to make sure no accidental unlatches. Other than that, it is a neat solution to the niche market as of now.

I find it quite interesting that even with that short loop of the water pipe under the regular heat pipes, it makes such a massive difference. It looks as if they just took their previous air cooled only model and at their first atempt they just put the water pipe like that to keep it simple and seeing that the improvement was already so good they just decided to keep it like that. Anyway, keeping it simple is a big plus, and probably most of the developement time went into the quick release system.

This is such a good design I love it! Butttt in saying that, this would be much better in a desktop replacement style laptop I think… this type of technology would be Great partnered with a MUCH higher wattage GPU. Imagine a laptop that runs 150W or so on air, but when you plug in the water cooling it allows the GPU to pull 250W or so depending on how well it cools it. Honestly would buy that in a heartbeat. And desktop replacement laptops are usually a bit thicker but that’s the point, so could use that thickness to help cooling in a way.

I think this loop is pretty solid from the internal picture. The pipe is made of metal, the water in/out holes are way outside of the laptop and properly sealed. The only way the water’s gonna get in is if you spill water on the keyboard and it leaks down to your component, and that risk exists whether you’re refilling the loop or just drinking anything near your laptop. I still think it’s a bit clunky, but the (performance) gains are pretty good. Laptops are not upgradable, gaming laptops suffocates from heat and gets reasonably loud if you’re not wearing headphones. So if you’re just gaming casually for like 3hrs, your hands can rest on the keyboard w/o getting warm/sweaty, and you can take off the headphones to avoid soreness/sweat.

I'm making an educated guess based on years of working on cooling systems for engines. The coolant is likely a mix of alcohol and water. That mix increases the thermal transfer rate over that of water substantially. Just using distilled water will result in a lower cooling rate but might not be enough to cause performance issues. Given that the system is not subject to wide temperature fluctuations, or to being in-situ for years at a time, there are likely no sacrificial additives. Distilled water alone will greatly increase the likelihood of mold and bacterial colonies making a home in the laptop and cooling system, and that's exactly how we got Legionaries' disease; condensate (the same as distilled water) sitting in an air conditioning system.

That Laptop pee is horrible, they should have built a mechanism that closed the the input side connection of coolant while allowing air to flow inside so all the coolant could be drained back into the pump.

Wouldn't it be way smarter to have the Radiator device suck the water out of the loop before you disconnect it? This way there wouldn't be any spill and this also shouldn't be too hard to implement. I think that would improve the ease of use and practicality by a lot

I would be willing to pay maybe a hundred bucks extra on the notebook itself, to have this capacity for at home desktop performance, and another extra for the cooler, but I'd like this to become industry standard connectors, because I would not want to have to sell or replace the table cooling system everytime I upgrade or switch to a newer laptop. Same with eGPUs, thunderbolt allowed it to become a bit more practical when compared to dedicated manufacturer plugs. So yeah, I want to see more of this in the future and becoming more commonplace as an option when purchasing notebooks.

The difference between distilled 💦 and regular water is the mineral content where distilled water has no minerals which contributes to that white buildup you see when the water is fully evaporated. Thus, I always use distilled water (& isopropyl alcohol) when I clean my electronic equipment, Ravi Peiris M.D.

I am not surprised by the thickness of this liquid cooled laptop, and the temp drop is definitely realistic. I've DIYed a liquid cooling system for MSI GS63 8RE when I was back in university. I was able to squeeze the pipe in without increasing the thickness of the thin and light GS63. The laptop would hit 98C under some load and fan sounds like a helicopter, but it stays steady at 65C when the liquid cool system is connected even at high loads. I was running a 360mm radiator with 3 silent fans and a 250mm tubular reservoir. I used strings to suspend it on the side of my desk so that vibration doesn't transfer, the system is nearly silent as an end result. The system has to be below my laptop so that I can properly empty the coolant when I disconnect it, the method is to shut the pump, loosen one fitting so that air can get in and gravity can pull all the fluids out of the laptop. In comparison this laptop's quick disconnect makes the proper draining impossible as it disconnects both fittings at once, and every disconnect causes you to loose fluids.

The fact the cooling system doesn't come with transparent cover with some LED lights inside (I mean the fluids are already blue) is a missed opportunity in the style department.

I think this should come naturally to gaming laptops and frankly I'm surprised other companies haven't done it yet (like asus, dell, lenovo, etc. And even if you don't use water cooling, even if you don't play as much on a laptop, it in no way prevents having it as an option And for people who play seriously on laptops, this will be perfect. Personally, I only play on a laptop, and once I found out about it, I really liked it as an innovation I really hope it makes its way into gaming laptops and becomes a natural thing for gaming laptops

That's why the cooling is removable, it's "optional feature". The idea is: you wanted more performance? low fan noise? This is the solution. This is for gaming laptop, you cant moving quickly, the power brick is big and should be carried with you wherever you go, not like Ultrabook you can leave the brick just fine.

The closing arguments about “maintenance” is really not as bad as it sounds from his end. Firstly it’s a high end gaming laptop that can run perfectly fine without having to lug around the Oasis cooling unit and it will still perform just fine. The Oasis can stay home if you’re using it for work or school and then on your downtime you can plug in the Oasis unit and do some heavy gaming with great results. The laptop still works without the cooling unit and that should have been talked about and it will still be on pace with big brand name gaming laptops. I think for the price it’s awesome and there’s a few options you can choose from to meet your needs that will mate up to the Oasis unit. It’s not a flashy laptop which I think is a big plus in my book because some of these gaming laptops go overboard with RGB everything making it look out of place at work or school. But to each their own, I personally think it’s amazing and I’ve been eyeballing one since they came to the market.

Distilled Water should not be used unless you are cleaning the loop for long-term storage. Water will corrode the loop once a bit of contaminant gets in. Also, the coolants act as lubricants. Without that, the loop motor will begin to fail over time. Here's the deal: have a small sauce dish on the desk & drain the coolant there, and keep the rubber lid closed as soon as possible to avoid contamination and prevent residues due to evaporation.
@hukmai

Yup this will replace my desktop, something to be said about the maintenance, it could be much worst i appreciate, how this designed really only needs topping off with distilled water and the occasionally blast of air for the laptop port to get the old water out. plus at the very least it kinda establishes a cleaning routine versus a hot laptop with years of grime
