I purchased the plans for the original spiral tree when they first came out. That first year i had to turn people away because i couldnt keep up with orders. This year, I premade 5 over the summer, sold them all the in the first couple of days after posting them. Ill have to add this style for next year!

@RiverHayes so the first year I started out at $60, except 2 that customers wanted stained green. That's a pain, I charged 100 for those. This year I charge $75. Could probably have charged more

I think using a guide and circular saw, or a tracksaw if you have one, would be perfect for cutting the two large triangles from the boards - save all the time and effort of doing batches at mitersaw. Excellent video as usual!

Wondering what it would look like if each layer was at 22.5 degrees or even 10 degrees. Would it still look spiraled or look more random. If more random, then painting the ends of the boards different colors or white would mimic lights.

I made five of the smaller original spiral trees and one 7 foot tree. Took me two years to sell all five of the smaller ones and I ended up breaking down the 7 foot one and making other things with the wood. People kept thinking they were those spinning things that you hang from your porch or a marble run.

@MatthewPeechWoodworking21 күн бұрын
You can do it with a table saw, hack saw, circular saw. You do not have to have a sliding miter saw.
@mrbamfo500021 күн бұрын
You don't need a sliding miter to make these. You could use several things to make the groves. Sliding miter, table saw, router, circular saw, heck, even a hand saw. Kinda nice to have a table saw for cutting the strips, but you could use a bandsaw or with a straight edge, even a circular saw (be quite a bit slower to do well). If you just wanted to make one, you could make the whole thing with a handsaw and some chisels. But it'd take a long time.
@lukasstrne378021 күн бұрын
@mrbamfo5000 Agreed!... a table saw would be ideal. I get jelly of the Bob Villa guys with all the fancy tool!

I think if you clamp your tree branch blocks together and two base blocks together, then use a 1/2” router bit to make your half laps, it will eliminate using the miter saw making several cuts to make the half laps. I did this when I made my sister’s arbor in her backyard. It saved me a lot of grief placing the top boards on the headers. I only grooved the top boards to lock on with the lower header boards and ran a screw through the top attaching to the header, perfect spacing. Hope this helps. ✅✅✅ I love the tree 👍👍👍👍
