@antriderz66157 жыл бұрын
Easy: A meter is the distance light travels in a vacuum in a 299 792 458th of a second.
@abdulazizrushdi91547 жыл бұрын
Shadow:3 I get where you're coming from, but all these examples are different. We use units to convey a measurement to others. So for example, you use your left/right hand and that's only affecting you, but using units we have to use stuff that everyone understands. I bet you come across several situations where you wish you knew the metric system ......It's even more problematic in a scientific sense. That's why we have SI units.
@SovereignAure7 жыл бұрын
abdulaziz rushdi You have a point about left-handedness and right-handedness, but he, Shadow :3, does also have a point; standardizing language would help people in the same way as converting the world to a single system of measurement. They are both a language concept; one for communication, the other for measuring. A lot of people miss the fact that measurement systems are basically a form of language that people grow up with; likely because there are so many less systems of measure compared to the more common concept of language. Thus while it may be better for everyone to learn metric and mandarin since those are both the most commonly used langiages for their specific purposes, or SI units as they are concidered more accurate along with esperanto as it was designed for the express purpose of uniformity of language, in the end what you are expecting people to do is learn an unfamiliar language, most of the time, solely to make other people who already know it have an easier time. And with languages as simple as systems of measure, where translation/conversion software is so readily available, everyone learning a single system is sort of unnecessary, although people complaining that they want someone else to translate it for them is also very lazy.

undead890 you aren't a true American. Here, we do shit our way. And that how I like it, and the rest of the country likes it
@undead8907 жыл бұрын
True Americans don't accept mediocrity or second best, like a measurement system based on abstract ideas with no real relationship to each other that can only exist in this world because ALL of it's units have been converted to and based in the METRIC SYSTEM! (Look up official definitions of the Foot, Pound, and Gallon, they are ALL based on Metric Measurements and have been for over 100 years) So, no, you actually aren't doing shit your way, you are doing shit the same way as everyone else in the world, you just do it in a way that creates more problems and higher costs for the whole world and yourselves. So, since you are already doing the same shit as everyone else, why not make it simpler and cheaper in the long run for everyone and just use Metric, we have already been doing it for over 100 years now anyway.
@undead8907 жыл бұрын
Kind of my original point, most people who call themselves true Americans are not even close to True Americans. They claim they are the best or what they do is the best, but it is the furthest thing from.
