Matthew: "It's a nice neck, kind of that '66 - you know - chunky shape" Me, who has never seen a vintage guitar irl: "I know exactly what you mean"
@AnonymousSam3 жыл бұрын
Haha, I know! I love watching videos of vintages guitars but I have no idea what any of the neck profiles mean. I did have a chance to try a Fender Vintera 50s tele, and it really did feel like a "baseball bat" as they say, so chunky lol. That's why I think the Vintera series was such a genius idea, it let's people experience more time accurate specs to so that people can have a better idea of what they like.
@bendittschlag96113 жыл бұрын
@@AnonymousSam the vintera guitars aren’t even true to spec in that regard. Try a fender American original 60s strat, those have the correct neck measurements. I was shocked when i got mind and put my hand around the neck. If you would have blindfolded me and gave me the guitar, I would have guessed that I’m holding a Louisville slugger 😆

It sounds amazing! Some Deoxit would clear out the iffy pots/switches pretty quick. The rhythm circuit disables the bridge pickup and allows separate tone/volume controls with different cap/pot values for a darker sound for the neck pickup. Pretty useful for its original design, but nobody plays jazz on them.

That's a lovely guitar: they are the alfa romeo of guitars, quite a bit of work to get all the parts working well together.... but when they do, you're hooked. Once you get used to their quirks, it's not a big deal and seeing as they are so idiosyncratic tone wise, well worth the effort. #1 guy for good info on offsets is Mike Adams' channel

It'll be interesting to see what comes of getting it on the bench. Looks like a '68, maybe a '67....The rhythm switch in the up position activates the front pickup and the little volume and tone pots on the upper bout. The rhythm switch takes the 3-way pickup selector and lower bout volume and tone out of the circuit. It's a darker sound from the days when a lot of bands had just a standup bass or no bass at all, and rhythm guitar was expected to cover a lot of what electric bass covers now. Refinned? I dunno. That paint is very old,and matches the headstock so well that if it isn't factory original, I'd think it's an extremely well-done body-only reshoot over factory-original Sonic Blue. At the time of the (hypothetical) refin, it would have been VERY difficult to find any kind of replacement decal, and relic-ing was either not yet thought of or in its infancy. IMO that makes it likely the headstock finish is original.

This is a guitar you could fall in love with! I can not imagine why it would be parts guitar? BTW The Jazzmaster can produce a rattle from the bridge. This is simply the bridge posts in contact with the well. (happens with string changes or de-tuning then tune back to pitch) Just center the bridge, the rattle will be gone. I owned a '65 Jazzmaster back in '69. (Purchased for $125.00 from a pawn shop) The rhythm circuit does sound different, different tone cap, a more mellow sound with upper harmonic overtones, a very nice sound!
