I spent so long holding onto this hate for the individuals who have harmed me, for the man that raped me. I spent so long being so angry, it fed my anorexia, my cutting, eventually leading me to attempt suicide...nearly successful. I heard this song and after a long conversation with a friend when I was living in a women's shelter I realized that by holding onto this hate I was only hurting myself. Offering up forgiveness set me free, God calls us to forgive even the most unforgiveable of things.

@jamiehoekstra116779 жыл бұрын
+Andrea Schneider I was molested and physically abused by my birth mom's husband from the age of 2-4. I was taken from them shortly after because of neglect, not abuse. My own birth mother never stood up for me. After a few years in the foster care system, I was adopted by another family. It felt like a dream. But one problem stood in the way: they never addressed the abuse that I had endured. They knew I had been abused, so I am not really sure why they never sought out treatment for me. They were both doctors. So they could definitely afford it. Well long story short, I continued the cycle. I became the abuser. I had SO MUCH anger inside of me and didn't know why. I would get angry and hit something. That something soon turned to animals, and then my siblings. It never calmed my anger. All it did was make me feel ashamed after I calmed down. And the shame led me to being angry at myself, which just started the cycle all over again. When I was 12 my parents put me in an institution that dealt with abusive children and teens. I failed because they focused only on my actions. The guilt and shame was so horrible I tried to kill myself several times by running away. I was taken to another facility in which I tried to break out as it was more like a juvenile, and i was completely terrified. After failing that program, I was shipped off to one more. But the cycle of "treatment" didn't change & I had no progress. On my 14th birthday my parents came to visit me in order to tell me that they had given me back to the state. I had lost my family. I was devastated. That night I ran away. It was my 3rd time of running, and I failed the program. My case worker came and picked me up a few days later and took me back to my hometown. She was trying desperately to find some place for me to go so I didn't end up in juvenile detention. She already knew the damage the other place had caused. She found a foster family that agreed to take me overnight while she found somewhere for me to go. That overnight turned into almost 4 years. They were the most amazing people. My foster dad listened to me. He showed me love and mercy where everyone else just had contempt for me. And thankfully I got the help I really needed. Help that focused on the abuse I endured before turning to what I had done. Over my adult years the abuse has been hard to deal with at times. But the abandonment by my adoptive family is what broke me to my core. I was so hurt. And I AM still so hurt by that. Thankfully God has been working in my life. I have been able to forgive my abuser and my adoptive family. It doesn't mean the pain stops. But now I run to the cross with my pain. I have realized that being taken from my birth mom was God intervening in my life. Finding a foster family who didn't just throw me away like everyone else was God intervening in my life. Having a daughter, a son, a step son, and a wife today is God blessing me and replacing what I so dearly missed for so many years. And on top of all that, GOD Himself has NEVER turned away from me. He NEVER said I wasn't good enough or unworthy of His love and Christ's sacrifice. In fact, had it only been me that had faith in redemptive power of Jesus, Christ still would have gone to Calvary. I know that now. I know I have been accepted and loved for exactly who I have always been: His child. None of them deserve my forgiveness. But I don't deserve God's either. By forgiving them for the damage they did to me, I have freed myself through the love of God. I have been set free from the bondage that was anger, hatred, and depression. I now don't look at myself through my own fleshly eyes. I look at myself through God's eyes. And He is teaching me to look at others and see what He sees. As someone who has struggled with forgiving others as well as myself, I know the pain. I know how it tears you apart. But I also have come to realize the truth: forgiveness isn't for them; it's for you.

People always ask "why do bad things happen to good people", the answer is in this story. There is always a bigger picture, this lady may have lost two daughters, but the story of it may have saved hundreds of people. Bad things may happen, just remember there is a bigger picture, God's picture.

You know, this forgiveness is the missing link to our society. I know from personal experience that when you hold onto something that is not yours - judgment, condemnation, bitterness -, then it becomes you, yourself, who becomes that prisoner...of all those cold and lonely feelings (above) in fake righteousness ("you deserve to be angry") and false hope. When I discovered that my son did not commit suicide, but instead was shot by another and made it look closely like suicide, I had already given forgiveness to that person who had asked me for it. To turn around after discovering the truth and condemn, judge, hate, and wither would be to totally give up the gift of mercy, love, and hope in the promises of Jesus Christ - He who has completed the ultimate sacrifice, passing all judgement and condemnation in very forgiveness of my own sins. Who am I to do less than this? "Human?", yes, of course, but He walks with me and gives me grace and wisdom as I continue to learn His truths, and what justice means, which is not mine to perform. I love you, Jesus Christ, my Savior and Lord of All!!! Thank you...

Even if it is hard to forgive, it is worth it. I have forgiven my dad for being separated from my mom and blaming him for why I got addicted to what I did (and still have struggles with). But God is there and if he can send his only son, Jesus, to die on the cross to forgive me of my sin and to change me, and also to say to those who were there near the cross, Forgive them for they do not know what they are doing. Then we as Christians should do likewise, even if the other person doesn't understand why we are doing it, doesn't want it, etc. God bless.

I meant to say Forgive them for they do not know what they are doing. Oops. My bad. God bless. Also, I forgot to say it is worth it not it is worth and why we are doing it instead of why we are doing.

This is often a result of childhood trauma. She was probably hurt as a child and needs to feel in control now. She feels threatened by her husband having a good relationship with his family. In her mind that somehow takes away from her relationship with him. Your brother is the key in this. He needs to learn how to honor his parents and family and love his wife -- not let her rule him.

This was his third offense and yet only received one year in jail, one year house arrest and couldn't drive a car for 5 years. I don't know what happened to him, but I don't harbour any ill feelings towards him. Forgiveness Matthew West Lyrics It’s the hardest thing to give away And the last thing on your mind today It always goes to those that don’t deserve It’s the opposite of how you feel When the pain they caused is just too real It takes everything you have just to say the word… Forgiveness Forgiveness It flies in the face of all your pride It moves away the mad inside It’s always anger’s own worst enemy Even when the jury and the judge Say you gotta right to hold a grudge It’s the whisper in your ear saying ‘Set It Free’ Forgiveness, Forgiveness Forgiveness, Forgiveness Show me how to love the unlovable Show me how to reach the unreachable Help me now to do the impossible Forgiveness, Forgiveness Help me now to do the impossible Forgiveness It’ll clear the bitterness away It can even set a prisoner free There is no end to what it’s power can do So, let it go and be amazed By what you see through eyes of grace The prisoner that it really frees is you I want to finally set it free So show me how to see what Your mercy sees Help me now to give what You gave to me Forgiveness, Forgiveness

December 19, 2010 about 4 years has passed that, My daughter was coming from Christmas party and then the unthinkable happen...She got in a car accident almost exactly like this story....My world came falling down right before my eyes as I saw her lying helpless, lifeless on that bed... I was powerless..I can't help but cry and I wanted to just run away and just be next to her...The day had turn to worst...Days turned to weeks, weeks to months, and months to years, like an empty shell walking around this earth. I thought that there is no point living in this world...Not a single day goes by that I do not think of her..It was a nightmare!I carry it on my shoulder EVERY SINGLE DAY...Everyday that I wake up was another battle, I have to keep finding the courage to do things to function normally...FORGIVENESS is so hard to come by... And this song just made it more susceptible to understand on how to forgive... thanks for the song sincerely...

Sandy Samson forgiveness has nothing to do with the person who hurt us being dead or alive. It’s about letting go of the grudge which we have toward them with allows To reach down and do the impossible in our life’s. Take the pain and wound that the person caused us away from us for good and totally erase that and give us total healing and wholeness as if it never ever happened. Make no mistake about it friend. God can do that in a second for you. Then why hasn’t he you ask?. Because of one person you. Yes that’s right, you. God purchased your healing for you on the cross of Calvary when he sent his son to die for you. And he disclosed the legal obligations of that healing and what you had to do in his written word to obtain that healing. Its very simple and here it is. Jesus said whatever you bind on Earth will be bound in heaven and whatever you loose on earth will have been loosed in heaven. For if you will not forgive others when they sin against you, neither will your Heavenly Father forgive your sins. Period. What that means is when you do not forgive the person who hurt you, whether dead or alive, the pain of what that person did to you remains bound to you on earth and in heaven. In Earth meaning it sticks to you like glue. In heaven meaning it hovers Over you reigns over you as Lord and tormentor. And you will continue to be tormented by it until you forgive. Because Whatever reigns over you has the final say and even God by that legal principle he spoke in his word cannot heal you. It is a hell of your own making because you do not forgive you are actually tiring his hands. Forgiveness means letting go and it’s a two part thing. When you forgive you are loosing the person who hurt you from further blame of the pain they caused you and the pain they caused you is loosed from your mind and soul, as if it were never there to begin with. And then God will step down and heal you but only then. We all have been broken but it’s up to us how we let that affect us. You need to also know there is a hell and Jesus clearly said if we will not forgive we will not be forgiven of our sins because after all why should God forgive us for putting his son on that cross by our sins if we won’t forgive others who hurt us. Would that be just? I don’t think so. Listen to mary Kate Baxter’s testimony if your not sure. She was literally taken to hell by Jesus and saw a woman in hell who was a former preacher but wouldn’t forgive her husband who cheated on her. She was in hell crying out in regret for a second chance to come back to Earth and forgive her husband. But Jesus wept and toward her she knew in her heart to forgive. She knew his word. He spoke to her many times to not harden her heart but forgive but she refused. Now she is in hell today. Very sad. Had she forgiven she would have been restored in life and in heaven millions of times over and increasing. Jesus is real friend and his judgments are real. Do you know him? You can. He will forgive your transgressions but you will have to forgive others first because he can. Jesus loves you friend. Don’t tie his hands. Be the bigger person. Let Jesus heal you once and for all today. Forgive.

Being a friend of someone who is trying hard to forgive I wonder how much time passed before the family felt true forgiveness?

One of the most powerful songs ever written and the message is critical for destroying all the bitterness and hate that is tearing our nation apart. So much history that was behind us is now being stirred up, when a little forgiveness will bring us all back together again!

Young people, this is an important message. It seems that in many of our friend's families, including ours, one of the family members has cut off another family member - no contact - PERIOD! No one expects you to forget, but, especially when it comes to family, forgiveness is the best path. And, that applies to the world including friends and the workplace.

Wow... I just to listen to this song when I was single a few years ago. I never thought this song will speak to me today... to forgive my husband. It is so hard to forgive. The lyrics of this song is amazing. It is like God talking to you. It is hard but thank you.

I have seen first hand how holding grudges and resentments against someone affects you'. God can and will empower you to forgive but you and I need to be willing to release ourselves to Him!

We love, for we were first loved. Be the More Loving One. No easy task for many people, but totally worth it. I've been speaking about this sort of love in MADD and Minnesotans for Safe Driving, etc., since January 91. In November of 90, I heard a mother whose son was killed by a drunk driver speak about love and forgiveness. She talked me into speaking when I would instead have killed myself, left to my personal inner climate. Love one another is no small direction.

That story of a grieving mother's forgiveness is truly amazing - because God's ways are always profoundly amazing. Just like this song Matt West wrote.. Perfect. I've been blessed by it ever since he wrote it. Thank you, Matt West.

In all of us we carry different kinds of unforgiveness , it’s our responsibility to love the unloveable to show the love of God . I had my kind forgiveness to deal with, family and people that hurt me physically to point of disability. People don’t see the pain we deal with on a continuing basis but God does, let him be your healer so give it to him and receive you healing and the forgiveness and peace that this world doesn’t understand or can even give , he did it all on the cross for you !
@Mr1241227 жыл бұрын
this story was amazing... forgiveness is hard for anyone... but God did the ultimate, he put his son, whom he loved so very much on the cross to die for OUR sins, so that we might forgive others... forgiveness only eats you alive like a cancer... forgive yourself first, then forgive others, then ask for forgiveness... after all isn't the sacrifice that God did for us in the first place worth it...
