I believe Matthias' choice of roles are definitely diverse. He can incarnate any character he chooses to play. He has an inner strength and great sex appeal. (It's great when a man just has that appeal) We needed someone like him to come along and I have read biographies of his youth and I would love to know how he worked through his past. He claims that his mother gave him a special love and he is a magnificent man. He's unbelievably handsome and a great actor.

The fact that most people in Europe know more than 1 language doesn't take away the fact that his English is actually pretty top notch. Most Belgians and Dutch speak English with a 'strong' Dutch accent. All propz to Matthias!

+Thomas VR He said he learnt English from watching American movies growing up. He was already fluent in his native Flemish (Belgian) and French. He is so intelligent and succinct in every interview, always illuminating!

Yeah but you'll still hear him translating some things a little too literal... Like he said "I can tell" which means in English more like "I can see it, because I have experience etc". But he actually means "kan ik je vertellen"...

I saw Rust and Bone last night. It was amazing. She was amazing. he was amazing. I was amazed! Bullhead looks terrifying. I've seen the trailer so I might tread carefully with that one! He seems to be able to encompass different facets of a character and I see great things ahead for him.

Indeed, he mentions The Loft at the end of the interview. This is an american remake from a Belgian movie and will be out soon in the US. It was a big hit in Belgium and it has the same Belgian director. Great cast as well: Eric Stonestreet , Wentworth Miller.. More at.imdb.com/title/tt1850397/

Belgian people are very "linguistic", and very talented! You should have seen their acting skills ... I have lived in Belgium for 22 years now, and all I have is "amazements" for all the beautiful and amazing things I have been able to observe of them! They are very precise, very hardworking,very talented, very linguistic, above intelligent, have the perfect features of the body, and are fit to rule the world, if I may say ...As of now, there are two belgians, aside fro my ex husband, that I am so passionate about, being with the character and personality, and these are: Minister Guy Verhofstadt and Matthias Schoenaerts!

lee ju yeon the dutch are linguistic too because they have a small land and know others will be less willing to learn their language.Besides their language is not one of the prettiest. i live here and have to learn it but it is painful.

I know belgians speak several languages, but he speaks english with an american accent, i think thats what is shocking.
@madmixerZ3N010 жыл бұрын
Yes, that's true. And many of the Belgian people actually speak English with an American accent. It's because we don't dub our movies but use subtitles. We get a lot of American television and movies. Also, internet and multimedia is mostly in American English. It's too bad, but it is a lot more easy to speak American English because it corresponds more to our mother tongue.
@Michael-xi9nb10 жыл бұрын
It's the same with Danish people. In Borgen, when the female lead speaks in English she could've actually passed for an English person! It's probably the Western influence, but I think their accents aren't strong and are easily adaptable. Marion Cotillard's accent is strong, however, and hard shake off. And Penelope Cruz, of course. But it's easy for Belgian and Scandinavian actors to play Westerners. Look at Alexander Skarsgard and Nikolaj Coster Waldau.
