Wandel is the guy who starts with 2x4s - twisted ones - and sheet metal and makes a door...a door for a garden shed, I might add...that seals like a refrigerator.
@IanSmithKSP3 жыл бұрын
That door really makes the shed. The custom fitting metal pieces are strangely beautiful - probably because they’re so simple. I’ve never seen anyone work with corrugated sheet metal before. Thanks for the video
@zdkama3 жыл бұрын
I absolutely love how straightforward and to the point your videos always are. We cut directly to a drawing of you explaining the issue with the flashing hitting the wall without you talking about going to a drawing or setting the scene up with a talking head transition. Your editing and video work are as good as the wood work. Well done.

You have no idea how timely this video for me is. Lost everything in this pandemic and currently living in a 5' by 12' shed on a relatives garage with my 5 dogs. The wood is molding and rotting and I have been thinking of cladding it so it can last until I at least get a job and move out. This video is super helpful. Thank you.
@matthiaswandel3 жыл бұрын
Depending on outside temperature, cladding may make it worse. If you live in it, and it's not insulated and no vapour barrier, it can cause condensation in the walls.

If the makeshift foundation fails, the shed will still probably last forever... it'll just be on its side at the bottom of the hill.
@williamreinhard3 жыл бұрын
He'll most likely know that foundation is failing long before it actually fails and can reinforce it with something more permanent.
@barrettdent4053 жыл бұрын
I believe the makeshift foundation has a lot to do with the Toronto Ravine Protection building restrictions and permit hassles. Because it’s not a permanent structure, (precisely because of that makeshift foundation,) he may well succeed in having a shed where it might otherwise not be permitted. However, I suspect jealous and self-righteous neighbours will make this all a tremendous hassle. By reporting the shed, triggering inspections and bureaucratic headaches.

very smart door design! I have a basement door that's an odd height (gotta love 100 y/o houses) that the previous owner replaced decided to put a particleboard interior door in the frame, and of course that's been crumbling for who knows how long. for the short term i wrapped a heavy tarp around it but i wanna put something a bit more substantial in that level entry before winter hits. your design looks like just the ticket!

Could have bent the sheet over the door edge and added some insulation tape to cover the metal edge. Now it is a rain catcher, also rain + wind, the eave may protect the part above the door most of the time.

Most of my clients would balk at me suggesting I put this much work into the front door of their house. I'm actually surprised at the complexity of reaction this provokes in me. I'm conflicted between being jealous of someone having a life that allows time to spend doing something like this, sympathetic with the sensation of doing a nice, robust job of something simple, and frustrated that level of skill and attention to detail is being lavished on a garden shed. It seems like a gross misallocation of resources, like having Michelangelo painting warhammer figurines.
