Have been making murmurs of ricotta king cake for several years. About to cut into Matt’s recipe cake in a bit. Both are beautiful cakes

Wow thanks so much for this video. I've been looking at this recipe to try, so it was a fantastic coincidence. I've been making your Randazzo's style and it is great, just wanted to try something different.

I like the way this falls together. I have been searching king cake recipes and found myself wondering about adding the colored sugar in a bullseye pattern. This method of making a king cake seems to work. Thank you for sharing.

I like the way this cake falls together. It is going to allow me to step outside the box when it is ready for frosting and sprinkles. Thank you for sharing.

Thanks so much for this video! I missed ordering my DP king cake so I went looking all over to find a DP copycat recipe and came across murmursofricotta’s recipe but was hoping to find someone who tried it first to see how close it was to DP’s king cake.

We've made the dong phuong twice and will remake it with eggwash and going ham on the poked holes. Thanks for the video and great randazzos king cake vid!

Would an egg wash keep it from browning so fast? I made this last year and i remember panicking because it browns so fast.
@matthinkampcooks19 күн бұрын
Egg wash would definitely help but another solution is to tent foil over it when it starts to brown, that way it can still cook internally without the outside burning

@@matthinkampcooksdoing it right now and literally just did that bc it was brown at like 12 minutes. NGL - having made like 10 of your Randazzo’s, this felt the opposite of intuitive.

Can I cut corners and use crescent dough from store
@matthinkampcooks5 күн бұрын
It’s probably doable, they’re similarly made, I just don’t know how much I’d use

I dyed some white sugar the traditional colors and used it sparingly. It was less gritty than store-bought sanding sugar.

Have you tried this recipe with the added step of the Tangzhong step?

I love the cat is licking the butter at the 1:45 mark. 😂 Something mine has done (and would totally still do if I didn't banish him to the porch when I'm working in the kitchen).

So I am getting ready to make this and noticed you used active dry yeast, not instant yeast as recipe link indicates. would that make much difference?
@matthinkampcooks Жыл бұрын
There are differences, i.e. instant is supposed to work better without needing proofing, but as long as active dry yeast is alive it has always worked the same in my experience. The big difference is between dry yeasts and fresh yeast, so I would consider active dry and instant interchangeable

The recipe was only for cinnamon filled, but I do have a cream cheese filled version for my king cake recipe, hopefully someday I can figure out a cream cheese filling for the DP style
@MileHighHiker88882 жыл бұрын
Yes, the cream cheese one is the key

@@MileHighHiker8888 I've only had the cinnamon and that was just last week. I can honestly say I'm glad that only the cinnamon was available. It lets the true deliciousness of the king cake shine. The icing provides adequate sweetness without being overpowering.
