I have been a semi-pro potter for many years. I can honestly say this shape is definitely one of the most difficult to throw. I've done many bottles but none so graceful as this piece. I never thought of drying them out with a torch as I go along-that would definitely help keep them from collapsing, as mine did so many times-thanks for the tip! Great job!

They make throwing so much easier. I use both a blow torch and an electrical paint stripping gun. Mostly the electrical one as I have more control over it.

I also use a blow torch on my pots, this enables me to throw taller AND I can make and finish the pot all in the same day :) Thanks "as always" Matt.

Seeing the tiny wobble at the bottom makes me much more comfortable with my vessels not being perfect especially considering the beautiful end result

Wow~ I have zero knowledge about pottery so I don't know why he used fire but that was so cool 😳 Maybe it helps with securing the shape a bit? And the finished product is absolutely gorgeous! Even without any pottery knowledge I can imagine how difficult it is to make a vase like this even though he makes it look effortless.

The torch dries out the porcelain a bit to make it sturdier to work with, and less chance of it collapsing on itself :)
