I have used Sony products all my life. I have given Sony mirrorless cameras a very good run to try and fit them in my life.
This is the story of why they have not - so far.

I left Sony because their color science is no where close to Nikon. After shooting Nikon, I can’t stand Sony colors. Love the legacy of Nikon lenses from 1959 to today you can still shoot on Nikons. Love the classic look of legacy lenses.

I nearly came IN to Sony A very numerous times over the past decade and just never could bring myself to do so for this very reason. In terms of color science, Nikon has always been great, but I have to say that the very best in that department (glorious raw files) is, of all the makers, Pentax.

I totally agree. In 1982 when I first was looking for my first SLR, I entered a camera store and told the old guy behind the counter to show me some. He obliged by placing about 8-10 of the latest beginner models on the counter. I handled all of them and was confused by the Canon and a few others that did not feel right in my hands. The two that felt good and has easy to figure controls was an Olympus and a Nikon. So I went Nikon FG ($99 U.S.) until digitalis came available when I bought an Olympus E-10. Then in 2007 Nikon came out with their D200 and I have been with that brand ever since.

My advice to anyone new to mirrorless/DSLR cameras is to actually hold them in your hand. Ergonomics is an important issue and what is comfortable to me is not necessarily comfortable to you. Also, I would advise them to look at manufacturers who have simplified their mounts like Nikon, Fuji, or Sony; sorry Canon overlapping mounts on the same type of camera is unacceptable to me. My reasoning is, using Nikon as an example, as long as they are making a DSLR or mirrorless they will by default be supporting the F and Z mounts even if they obsolete a specific camera range (say the D3X00). My belief, contrary to a lot of opinion online, is cameras at a given price point and sensor size are pretty similar overall in capabilities with their peers. Unless you need a very specific feature pick the one you like best and go with. For those who have older gear, you are probably best staying the brand you are currently using; it will feel like a pair of comfortable slippers. Again, if there is a very specific need then consider a camera for that need.

Good stuff, Matt. Between awkward controls, uncomfortable long term handling, and ongoing unnatural skin tones, my daze with Sony cameras didn't work. I liked the optics (although they seemed another 20% over the Nikkors), the eye focus was great - but I don't shoot sports or swooping birds. Sincerely hope all who enjoy photography equally enjoy their cameras. Like you Miami Matt, I enjoy the tactile comfort/great color science/awesome Z mount possibilities. I first started photography about nine or ten years ago when I picked up a Sony RX100 to take it on the backpacking trips I was doing with my girlfriend at the time. It’s an amazing little camera which takes great images while still fitting in your pocket. But soon I got hit by the GAS and I also got myself a used Nikon D610. This camera was just soooo much better, except for the oil spilling issues. The problem with the D610 was realized that I didn’t like to take it with me on our trips because of it’s size and weight and I found myself falling back to the RX100 more and more. So I sold the D610 again and picked up a again used Fuji XPro2. OMG this was and still is such an amazing camera. It takes amazing images, it has many light but still great lenses available and it’s build like a tank. And it’s so much fun to use. Having all those Leica style daily on the camera is just so great. But at this time I got a bit more serious about photography I found that those types of controls became a bit impractical. I know that you can also map the controls to work as on any „normal“ camera, but that kind of defeats the purpose of the XPro. And I also found that I didn’t like Fuji’s RAW format as it is a bit of pain to work with to yield the best results from their cameras (which is totally doable, once you figure out how to handle those files). Around that time Z6 and Z7 were released and they caught my attention. After about half a year I couldn’t resist and I made the hard decision to let go of my fuji and picked up a Z6. Really really nice camera, great ergonomics, the RAW files are just amazing and a dream to work with (as I was used to from the D610), it‘s light but still very sturdy and the lenses are just from out of this world. I have to admit that I miss the Fuji sometimes and I might pick up another one as a secondary camera, but I will definitely stick to the Z system as my primary eco system as it ticks the most boxes for me.

I discovered the following; The ergonomics wasn't good. It missed focus many times. The menu on that camera wasn't user friendly and was difficult to navigate with. I really wasn't impressed, but I was glad i did a hands on with it. Anybody can make their own decisions. That was mine.

Nice to learn about your journey. I remember commenting on a video you posted about switching from one brand to another not too long ago. I commented on that video, stating that I would ride with Sony and wait for the A7 Mark 4. However, it was the ergonomics of the Mark 2 that annoyed me and I share your judgment on the Mark 3. I wanted to enjoy photography but I was suffering what I would call the "Sony Full Frame Fatigue". I ditched the entire system, willing to eat the loss. Got the Fujifilm X-Pro3 with a prime. Sure the ergonomics is different but it did help me get back to enjoying photography again. No fatigue!

Thanks for sharing. I've pretty much been with Nikon since I started doing more serious photography, and oddly enough it was because of the naming of the models. Both Sony and Canon confused me with the names. Moreso Canon, because I wasn't really considering Sony at the time. Sony was a lot more expensive having just released mirrorless. Though I had been doing spec for spec comparisons with Canon vs Nikon, I ultimately chose the D5300. The model number was much simpler for me. Only having used the camera and learned it from the ground up I gained considerable respect for it and eventually got a D750, and only recently a Z6. It was just one of those things and everything else kinda grew on me. The grip I also very much appreciate because my hands aren't small either. So, we're five years in. :D

Hi! I started in photography in 1980 of film photography days. I used 2 bodies then , F2as & FE as backup. , Had only 3 lenses, because Nikon lenses was quiet expensive, at that time. Then switch to Canon AE, when I sold my Nikon for financial needs. By 2019 I felt empty, longing for an outlet, to express my artistic needs/emotions. I got a Nikon D700, thru youtube reviews and recommendations. It was like magic, an experience of reconnection from my past memories/hobby. Since then , I have been shooting a lot and enjoy every moments of it. For me, Nikon system is the way to go. I am heavily invested on it with more than a dozen of lenses. What attracted me to Nikon is there fantastic and awesome lenses, they never let me down with the magical pictures I get. Thanks for wonderful sharing, positive outlook, inspiring us. Take care. Keep it up. God bless.

Just moved on FROM Nikon D850 to Sony. A7RIII is much smaller, and lighter with access to great glass, better for hiking. Just added a battery grip for when I would use the camera locally or with the Sony 200-600 for wildlife photography. I greatly appreciate that the 200-600 does not extend out when you zoom out, and the ease with which you can zoom with it. Together with the 10 fps I was sold. I can certainly see that the camera is too small to work with all day long if you have large hands. The Z7 would the better choice especially if you already have a large selection of lenses.

I am using Nikon cameras for an awful lot of time Matt. Around a year ago I was contemplating whether I would go for Sony and in particular the A7R3. I even hired the aforesaid camera and a Z7 for a weekend. I enjoy shooting landscapes and when weather permits in the UK I am out and about for nightscapes/astro. I can tell you one thing. The A7R3 is a superb camera with fantastic low light performance...but it didn't feel as good as my Nikons, particularly the raw files and its ergonomics. In combination with the Z mount lenses, which in my view are excellent, my decision was made. Nikon Z is for me. I liked my Z7 so much and I paired it with a Z6 soon after that, having sold most of my F-mount gear. I never look back since.

I'm using my 2013 Nikon D800 in 2020 and it's still a great camera. My biggest complaint with Sony is dust on the sensor, I couldn't stand it. Every time I grabbed my Sony A7II my sensor had dust on it, I've never had that experience with my ancient Nikon D800, Sony a900, Sony a850 and Canon 6D. Now that my Sony gear is gone I purchased a Canon 5Ds for US $1299.00 and look forward to using it with the few L lenses I own.

I made the change from film Canon to Nikon Digital when the D90 came out. The competing Canons in 2008 were pretty flimsy and but they were also cheaper than the D90. The first time I held it, all the spec sheet comparing and pricing differences were erased. The D90 felt great in hand and the controls were well designed. At the time it was not cheap, $1300 with the 18-105 kit lens. But as I started adding lenses, like the 70-200 2.8 VR and 24-70 2.8 and adding SB900 flashes I tried to ignore that the total investment was mounting quickly. Pretty soon I had $15,000 in F lenses just covering 14-200 mm, no long telephoto. But the results were worth it to me and I started picking up paid gigs as a second job. I was living in a new country and new career so getting paid photos work was a continuation of what I was doing on the side in the film days. I added a D7000, then D800 and D850, and still use all of them. The D90 has 360,000 shutter clicks, and the D800 has 1/2 million. The D850 has a lot fewer because in the middle of my love affair with the D850, I had an affair with a little Z7 which was traded in on a Z6 when it became available. I sort of feel I am cheating the D850 as it sits patiently on my shelf while my range of photography has expanded a lot just because the Z6 is such a joy to hold and take photos for no reason. I was a moderator for a large Nikon paid forum and answered questions and put on workshops so got some experience with all the other cameras out at the time and several workshop attendees had new a7 series cameras and I had the need to show them how to get the most out of their cameras. They were beginners and the cameras were more complex than they needed but every time I picked up on, it amazed me how something so uncomfortable to hold or adjust was so popular. Why use something that makes your hand ache in 20 minutes? It is small and light but due to the poor grip you have to use a lot of finger pressure to assure is stays in your hand. All my Nikons have hand straps, including the Z bodies, with removes any tension, so I can do a 20-hour wedding without any fatigue even with a D8x0 gripped body. The Z bodies and stellar S lenses are simply extensions of my hand, and eyes so there is zero stress on my hands or eyes. I am not a burst shooter, each shot has a purpose so when racking up 300,000 frames on a Z6 in 2 years that is a lot of deliberate shots and it never fails me. It captures what I intended and if it is off, it is due to my choices. I see zero reason to even consider a brand switch, the current models, each has done all I needed or wanted, without fear of taking them into harm's way like in the winters within 500 miles of the Arctic Circle where I live. I see some of the KZbin influencers trying to pump current brands and diss Nikon as backward and a loser but not one of those high view count influencers have ever displayed an image that the cameras they push would have done better or even as well as my Z6. They do not take photos, the read spec sheets. They obviously never held a camera longer than needed for the show since they never mention what a pain it is to operate their featured camera. Nikon surely delivers better photos because if it is held longer because of the comfort it is reasonable to assume that some of those additional frames are stellar and award winners. Combined with the performance of S lenses, and the lack of undefeatable RAW noise reduction Sony resorts to, it is pretty logical that Nikon's superior handling and color science not to mention ruggedness/weather sealing, more highly appreciated photos result from having and using Nikon than Sony. The International Press Photography awards every year so a district majority of top images were taken with Nikon cameras, and a distant second number were taken with Canon and in the last award list I saw Sony cameras accounted for 2% of the award-winning images. Maybe the pros know something the highly paid KZbin influencers do not know.

Indeed Stan it does seem rather a large testament to Nikon that they are always well represented in these types of awards. :) 300,000 frames on the Z6 is it showing any signs of tiredness? That is amazing for such an affordable little unit. Cheers matt

I started about 6 years ago with Nikon. I compared a Canon Rebel to a Nikon D3200 and like the feel of the 3200. I purchased alot of fast FF glass and upgraded to a D610, and then got a D500. After 4-5 years of taking education courses & shooting I started my photography business and got my CPP certification. I seen mirrorless was the way of the future and waited for the Z6/Z7 release. After deciding I was going to re-invest in native glass I tried Fuji GFX 50, and the A7RIII. The A7RIII just wasn't a good fit in my hands. It was cumbersome to hold and use. The GFX 50 wasn't a whole lot different in resolution to 45.7MP and with Nikon I could reduce / slow my re-investment costs by adapting my Favorite f-mount lenses. If the A7RIV was out I might've gone Sony, but I can say with confidence that after getting a Z7 and the native S glass that I am extremely happy with my choice to go with Nikon mirrorless.

Thanks for this video, Matt. It was very interesting. In the late spring/early summer this year (I'm in Europe) I was choosing my first full frame mirrorless camera and I was considering Sony A7III and Nikon Z6. I went to a local shop couple times, talked to the staff, tried both cameras in my hands, watched reviews (that's when I discovered your channel, I guess) and in the end I picked the Z6 because of its perfect ergonomics and I also like the colours right from the camera which saves me time in the post. And I'm perfectly happy, I have my Z6, my first few lenses and I just love shooting with my gear much more than ever before and I get better results. But at the same time, I have friends with Sony cameras and they are happy too. What a wonderful world!

Another very respectful viewpoint from a well respected photographer on KZbin. Thanks for sharing sir. I tried a Sony a7R a few years back. There was nothing wrong with the images per say and I was ok with the output. But just that It didn’t fit in my hands and couldn’t come to terms with the menu system or the overall ergonomics. I am sure the Sony’s now are awesome cameras and far far improved in every department. I am user to the Nikons and just love how it feels in my hand, the menu system and the colour science and the images that comes out of the RAW. I do know the limitations of the Z6, single card slot, AF not to the levels of their DSLRs or comparable to the Sony or Canon or the Fuji’s. But nothing that I couldn’t have lived without for the kind of the hobbyists non-pro work I do!

Professional sports shooter here. My main system is Nikon F. I've started with film camera Canon EOS 300, but when the time has come to move over to digital, I chose Nikon for various reasons. Over time I've started to understand that no system is ideal - every system has pros and cons and the best way to mitigate lack of some important-to-work tools is to... choose both systems at once. Case in point: Canon EF has as many as 4 generations of 17-35 mm f2.8 (first gen)/16-35 mm f/2.8 (the next three gens). Nikon had 20-35 and AF-S Nikkor 17-35 mm f/2.8D that is nice optically even by today's standards, but has a habit of killing off its first generation AF-S motor. You know the time has come when you hear very loud screeching sound - it's an indication that the death is imminent. Replacement motors are hard to come by and the repair job isn't economically reasonable anymore - the repair costs as much as the lens itself. Nikon has slept and chose not to release AF-S 16-35 mm f/2.8G or E for no particular reason. It's an invaluable tool. But OTOH Canon has got you covered on this side. Likewise, Canon didn't had 14-24 analogue, didn't had 28 mm f/1.4 and 105 mm f/1.4 lenses that we are blessed to have at Nikon F side - these two are my all time favorites. But Canon had amazing and dirt cheap 40 mm STM pancake, which Nikon forgot to release somehow. I can go on and on on this topic, but the bottom line is that: I don't want to be limited. Even if that means I have to spend an arm and a leg on two (actually, three and contemplating fourth) systems.

I'm no pro photographer, but I have been a Nikon shooter for over 40 years and their cameras suit me well. Never had any urge to change systems, I'm completely happy with the hardware I own. Call me old-fashioned, but I don't even feel the need to switch to mirrorless, though I am toying with the idea to add a FX body to my bag.

@MattIrwinPhotography
@MattIrwinPhotography 3 жыл бұрын
@@alextruong27 Hi Alex, it all depends on use case. For me the Z7 is more useful than the D850, for some the Z7 II will be better, and for that small percentage left, where high response focus tracking is essential, sports and and wildlife. I am not sure yet. Jared Polin just posted a video showing the focus tracking was nailing almost every image ... so it may well be on par now ( or near enough). It is all down to use case :) Specifically to the 'next' D850 the inbuilt expectation is the next d850 will be better than the current one. So it will have more of everything. And that is what we will see in a mirrorless camera next year from Nikon. The mirrorless 'D860' with increased spec. Hope all that makes sense :) Cheers Matt

Hi Matt, My first DSLR was the Nikon D100, I used it along with my Nikon F5. I upgraded to the D2X for a number of years, then I bought a D7200 and lastly a Z7. I have been a Nikon shooter for over 50 years and have no intention of switching. I noticed Nikon has reduced the price of the D850 by $500,00. I am wondering if that is a seasonal promotion or does Nikon want to blow them out of the warehouse to get ready for a new mirrorless D850, as per your previous vlog. With a possible 5 new models being tested I am anxiously awaiting to see what Nikon will be offering next year. Regards!

A film Nikon shooter for many many years, when digital came along it was Canon and Panasonic P&S, but then Nikon D100, 300, Dƒ, and then 810 for a few years. But, joined the SONY bandwagon with the A7RIII and used both Sony and Zeiss Batis lenses. But, the ergo, the menu system, the color science never worked for me and I dumped it all earlier this year. I still have some Nikon lenses and the Dƒ (still love it), and an order in for the Z6 II. It will be nice to be home again.

I started photographic life with an Olympus OM 1 in 1978 and added an OM2 a couple of years later. They served me for nearly 20 years (and I still have them). I loved holding them. Following a long hiatus with some progressively better point and shoots, I was researching where to go DSLR-wise about five years ago, knowing I would likely go a long way down that rabbit hole. For me, realistically it was going to be either Canon or Nikon. I chose Nikon, have been pleased with that choice and, again, love the output and the feel of the cameras in my hands (currently D850 and D500). I expect and hope Nikon will serve me for a long time yet.

I was into film cameras, just a little bit, purely amateur in the early '80's with Olympus and a Minolta 7000 - film with digital top screen. wow! But I was too busy at work to keep it up until Nikon released the D70 and my wife got me one. Fell in love again. Great IQ, loved the ergonomics and the build quality was great. I've has a few, but now I have the Z6 and just love it. Yes I'd love a Hasselblad or a Leica, but why? They really don't offer ME what the Z6 already does...and I don't need the Z6ii additional features that would cost me £1,000 anyways.

After almost 30 years of Nikon I moved to Fujifilm because of their amazing glass and because of the fact that I missed my Nikon FE2 days of film. The Fuji was a kind of comming home into the film days with all those controls and buttons and that fine aperture ring at their lenses. I will still stay with Fuji because of that but I also want to have fullframe because of a lot of reasons. Since 2018 I'm looking and thinking of the Z6 and today I ordered the Nikon Z6ii with the 24-70 f4. This decision is also bassed on the fact that I now start to believe in Nikon continuing this great Z mount which give a lot of very nice possibilities in the future. So maybe my journey back to Nikon has started. Time will tell...

When I was switching from film to digital, I was determined to buy Canon, despite the fact that I was using Nikon cameras at work. The fan-boy debates were raging then, as they still do now, and Canon seemed to be the way to go. So I went to the camera shop and tried a few Canons (can't remember the models) - it took less than five minutes for me to realise that I'd never get on with the layout of a Canon camera after using Nikon for so long. I've recently used a mate's Sony A7 III and again, it just doesn't feel intuitive. I know that a bit of persistence would create muscle memory, but unless the final product - the image- is light years ahead of what I'm getting with Nikon, why change?

The dials have the tendency to reposition themselves when the camera is in the bag, they are just too soft. I sold all my Fuji gear because of the dials and now I am waiting for my Z6ii.

My dad shot an old Nikon film camera.My first serious body was the D200 but I looked hard at Sony when I first started getting serious into buying my own hefty glass but the ergonomics of Sonys cameras (and I include button/menu placement in the catagory of ergonomics, was a huge turn off.) So I deep dove into Nikon. I currently shoot the D500 (mainly wildlife, i've gotten more into astro and landscape recently). I am very impatiently awaiting the z7ii which I have on preorder. Its the same narrow grip on a number of lenses. I got a Lbracket to hold in the left hand. It helps A LOT. I still dislike it, but the R3 is something I am finally starting to like...Since I went from a torchuring A7R2 that could not focus worth a dime......Just not getting used to seeing the AFC focus blurry in the VF, yet the shot is sharp most of the time.... I still hate the Sony issues, mostly Ergo and menus, but the R3 has addressed a good chunk of issues from the R2...other than Ergo. The R4 failed to give multiple Raw sizes, so I skipped that. Looks like I would try the R5 if the price went down, and they remove the AA filter. Do they have a RZ to E/FEMount? I still have the RZ 37mm and about 5 other great lenses.

I have a Sony RX100 version, can't remember, 5, 6 or 7 maybe. I bought it to take something out mountain biking that was still not an iphone. The menu system/system inside this thing is indecipherable. It does everything but I have no idea how. So I set it to an auto scene mode and use that. That would be the only way I could tolerate a Sony, but not the way I like to roll, except for when taking snaps when i'm outdoors and cant have a Z along for the ride. I also like the way its so slippery and I can easily drop it, so I ended up buying a little smallrig cage for it thinking i'd use it as an ancillary camera, which has made it too big to fit in my bag do now I just leave it at home, which makes everything easier especially as I left all the batteries that I need to run it for ten minutes in my pocket and washed and destroyed them.

Well, very first SLR it was a Minolta 7000 with all possible glass available and imaginable. I inherited it from my father ... and as it was a great piece of art, unbelievable. However at some point in time, the camera was stolen, and as it was only a hobby, on which I couldn't spend too much time as I was working on my professional career, I couldn't be bothered to buy new gear. When I then came back on the taste of SLRS - DSLRs were getting more affordable, and I was looking at NIKON, Canon or Sony and all brands you could name. Canon and Sony were shortlisted. Canon got the deal, for one or two reasons. When trying them I found that the ergonomics (when shooting) is much more genuine with Canon, even the menu structure was ùore consumer-friendly, but these were points where you could find a workaround. If I remember well there were two points which were decisive: a) the back display of the Sony was too sensitive or not well protected (compared to the one from Canon) and b) I thought that Canon had a better choice of glass. Since being in that ecosystem it is not easy to change and switch everything - and I think even here Canon did a great job, make the older F glass usable at the new r-mounts ... a reason why I am even considering to switch or add one of the new EOS-Rs... Yes I am a Canon fan, but I wouldn't categorize myself as a fanboy, but I have quite large hands as well - hence I do know very well that experience with the Sony cameras and your fingers ;-)

I spent a lot of my life as a photojournalist with a Canon F1 and FD lenses. I also used Nikons at the time, but something about the Canon breech-lock lens mount and the F1 build quality appealed to me. Optics were great and I was definitely at the time a Canon guy. I moved into management for a few years and when the time came for moving into digital photography both for personal reasons and for our staff photographers, the investment we had in Nikon lenses and the fact thet Nikon stuck by the F mount made them the overwhelmingly easy choice. That led me to my personal cameras being a D70, D300 and then a full frame D610. Since I've retired, I'm back to being an amateur photographer with pretty much «pro» expectations. I was yearning for less bulky equipment in 2018 and was quite close to moving to Fuji even if the menus were unfamiliar and I wasn't quite sure about moving away from Nikon's image files, which I've always found great. I had a folder full of Fuji brochures and was weighing their lineup when the mirrorless Nikons were announced. A month or two later, I was invited to my local camera store where the Nikon rep was showing the Z? and Z7 and I was hooked. I ordered one on the spot. You know the rest of the script to my story: the lenses, the upgrades, the fleshing out of the system, everything has met or exceeded expectations. My point? - Beyond good ergonomy and backwards compatibility to the world's leading lens lineup, there is more to to the name Nikon than just branding. What seems arrogant and sometimes ignorant of consumer trends to some actually feels to me like a philosophy that is unabashedly photographic. I like that. I love using some of my lenses from the mid 1970s. And I love the images I'm getting. Sorry to ramble on, but this is my story. Cheers!

it is interesting to compare the old Mamiya glass with the Nikon Z 50 / 1.8 that you normally use for filming. The look here is much fuller, richer, more cinematic. I have had similar experiences. This is also a criticism of the current Z (S) lenses. They are very harsh, i.e. they are optimized for sharpness of contours, but the tonal values are neglected. I replace the 14-30mm with an older Zeiss-Milvus 15 / 2.8. So I get better, more balanced results. The pictures don't look that "electric". The Nikon colors are better than Canon and Sony, but btw Leica and Hasselblad are clearly one step further.

I was tempted by Sony's Siren Song. I have a D500. On a trip overseas, ironically the SONY XQD card I had in my Nikon decided to disintegrate. I was lucky in that I could use the SD card slot instead. With the Z6II having two card slots, it was time to pre-order. P.S. I'm obviously an amateur!

Ergonomics are right up thee for me also. In my film days I used a Pentax 67 and Nikon F4 and the cameras never got in the way of my shooting. I then used a Sony A900 and A mount lenses (great ergonomics) before a brief flirtation with a Sony A711 and a few lenses. I was happy with the images, but like you the handgrip never worked for me, so I sold the E mount system. Now I am back to considering what my future camera/system will be. Whatever camera system I decide upon, it will come down to ergonomics or more simply what just feels right when I use the camera. The image results from any of the competing brands is not in question.

Matt I am a big and i mean big Nikon fan and had the D3100/D3200/ V1/D7100 and about 7 to 9 APC-S lenses AND about 5 lenses for the V1 at the time. I then decide to use olympus mainly for the form factor and also i liked the ergenomics and custemization and dare to say price of olympus cameras and lenses. Their optics are excelent. Yes small mft sensor,but then lenses as well. A shame they now selling the imaging devision but have to live with that. Got tge omd em1 mk2 and omd em5 mk3 and both still with very low shutter counts and in mint condition. Think they will last me for a long time still. I am only an ethuast and not pro. Like BIF ,macro and landscapes. Must say,if i ever beed and financial be able to change system,it will be to Nikon. Only to pricey now for me. Like your video content and watching as an Olympus shooter. Cheers.(By the way,i am not a sony fan-oops there i said it😆😆😆)

Sounds logical. Because you are a Nikon users, the D850 is a lot cheaper now a days than a Z7. Would you still advise the Z7 over de D850?
@gabrielh7718
@gabrielh7718 4 жыл бұрын
The D850 is a real beast, however I would suggest the z6II or z7ii, simply because the Z glass and IBIS. The Z glass is stunning and IBIS is a very nice thing to have, especially if you pick the Z7. When I had the D850 I always had to shoot it at fairly high shutter speeds because if you look at a 45MP file at 100%, it will also magnify any handholding problems.

I had to google Bronica. Never heard of that brand. Was that the later Konica?
@MattIrwinPhotography
@MattIrwinPhotography 4 жыл бұрын
From Wiki Acquisition and product discontinuation Bronica was eventually acquired by the lens manufacturer Tamron Co., Ltd., in 1998 with emphasis on Bronica's optical lens manufacturing. In May 2000, Tamron introduced under the Bronica brand the RF645 rangefinder camera.[6] Tamron discontinued the brand's single-lens reflex camera models (ETRSi, SQ-Ai, SQ-B and GS-1) between June 2002 and December 2004,[9] sales having suffered from the lack of consideration to a digital camera back and loss of market share to digital photography and digital single-lens reflex (DSLR) cameras, particularly for the wedding and portrait photography business which had previously been a heavy user of medium-format photographic film but switched quickly to digital photography for its commercial workflow benefits.[7][10] Bronica's last model, the RF645 rangefinder camera, was discontinued in September 2005, and marked the termination of the Bronica camera brand business.[7] Bronicas were workhorse photographic film cameras used by professional photographers for many years until the process of digital photography became widely adopted. Bronica cameras are, however, still widely used by photographers-both professional and advanced amateurs-whilst the commercial production of photographic 120 film remains available, in no small part due to superior image quality of 6x4.5, 6x6 and 6x7cm photographic film formats over smaller film (35mm) and digital image sensor formats.

Sony 707? Boy, that's really a blast from the past. And this is really the first time I hear about that insufficient RAW Sony files. Either people don't talk about that (i. g. keep it under the rug) or I didn't pay enough attention. Course I was eying some used @7 camera for usage with my old mechanical 35mm lenses. Course I'm a Fuji mirrorles & Canon DSLR shooter. If you want the entire picture lens can produce on a Fuji camera, you must use a speedbooster with which I don't have great experiences. And Canon, mirrorless or DSLR, doesn't give you any support for vintage lenses (focus peeking) other than their own EF line. Guess I'll still have to save up for the GFX camera...

So Matt, just curious are you going to sale your Sony gear?
@MattIrwinPhotography
@MattIrwinPhotography 4 жыл бұрын
With old cameras, I find the cost price vs their sale price to be too much usually below 50% what you paid. I could try and sell the A7R. For now I will hold onto the A7R III as it allows me to still pull it out for reminders and comparisons. And I do think the Sony A7S III look like a stunning video camera and low MP stills camera ....

You know I started my Digital journey with the Nickon D70 I have used Sony Fuji Olympus Canon cameras all over the last 15 years When I look back at pictures I took of my kids 15 years to 16 years ago with the D 70 they are still extremely good and I’m extremely happy with all of them. All the digital cameras did a reasonable job don’t get me wrong and the pictures were good but Sony let me down on a trip to the Grand Canyon it just would not focus correctly and left very fuzzy pictures it something wrong with the sensor got it checked out and cleaned reset and all was good after that but ruined the trip. Now I have a Nickon D750 and Nickon Z6 Thing that annoys me about the Z6 Is it’s a nice small camera which I would love to take with me when I go walking round town but even if you put a 1.8 mil lens on it it sticks out like a sore thumb why can’t we have a small 50 mm 1.8 lens for that camera like we have with the rest of Nikon 50 mil lenses I’m not talking about quality here I’m talking about size purely size And reasonably small aperture

There’s a reason for Nikon’s ergonomics being so good...., Ginetto Giugaro, since the F3 he and his company have designed the flagship cameras for Nikon with ergonomics in mind , Also Nikon adopted a similar philosophy for the menus, manufacturing a tool for the professionals, which at the same time is a paradox as camera and lens are at best 15% of an image.... However professionals tends to choose the right tool for the job

One thing missing from Nikon: an FTZ adapter that has a focus motor for old AF-D lenses. The D780 proves that it could be done.
@MattIrwinPhotography
@MattIrwinPhotography 4 жыл бұрын
Not 100% sure how that proves it, as the D780 is an F mount camera and the FTZ is an adapter. I certainly think Nikon could have made the adapter you are after, I think they decided not to. Cheers Matt

@@MattIrwinPhotography the D780 uses a phase detect AF sensor like the Z6, and it uses it to focus a screw focus lens in live view and video mode. This proves that there is no fundamental "law of physics" type of reason that it couldn't be done.

I have made the same experience, my hands are too big and too full of polyarthritis to fit on a Sony camera. So I'm still with the D850 and D500 that fit me well. I am going to get a Nikon Z7II, and I will change my D850 when the Z mount nrings out a camera that is bettger than the D850 with respect to AF. Not before! Maybe the firmware of the Z7II will suffice, but until then my D850 is the king!

I just want to tell on this Nikon channel that I have had cameras from all the big ones, but in the end I had to make a decision, as otherwise it would be too expensive for me to change brand all the time, and when everything was taken into account, I had no doubt that the mirrorless cameras from Sony were the ones that met most of my requirement .....
