She showed her qualities in the Marvin Gaye medley alone. It's such a shame that somehow she never found more good songwriters and producers to write more songs for her. She truly deserved it. Many many years ago, while taking acting classes in NYC, I used to run into Irene in the lobby. This was right before she did Fame and hit it big. She used to encourage me to move to NYC and do the acting thing full time, but it wasn't possible, and I really preferred Los Angeles over NYC. The first time I remember seeing her was on the children’s TV show The Electric Company, and we had some laughs about that. She was wonderful and even though I never saw her again in person, she always remained in my heart. I remember sitting at Carney's in Los Angeles on Sunset Blvd and seeing the big billboard promoting Fame and was SO happy that this talented lady had made her mark in Hollywood. Also, when she opened the Academy Awards, I was blown away and SO proud of her.
