Fun fact, this things packs enough DeltaV to get to Jool, as the original mission was going to be a bop trip (instead of Korex it would have been Kraken blood to be mined) but I decided that 1. +tomy10002 Yeah I did, the other videos in this series have a lot of shots without the HUD, so do a couple in this video in fact, but I thought that 1. A lot of people are struggling with Duna SSTOs, and SSTOs in general, so I thought it would be nice to provide a constant display of the amount of fuel etc. that the ship is using up throughout the mission to help give you a rough idea what a ship of this scale requires. If nothing else it helps those who downloaded the craft file to fly it! 2. The inevitable "u cheated11!!!" posts are more likely to occur if I "deliberately and maliciously hide the UI" during key shots

On the KSP forums that was called a "Rapierspike", and it improved the performance of the ship by reducing drag behind the engine, which the aerodynamics system otherwise counts as non-aerodynamic due to its flat back. As of version 1.0.5, in my testing, the nose caps explode rapidly as they probably should.

I am utterly astonished! How do you make it so that your orbit will perfectly hit Kerbin at 3:31? Like from Duna straight to Kerbin, which results in that. How can you make that rendezvous that precise? I hope this question is somewhat clear haha.

+Hotsemotse I use the mod "Kerbal Alarm Clock" (see the little clock icon in the top right of the UI?), which calculates transfer windows for you. Tell it where you want to go (e.g. Duna->Kerbin), and it tells you when the best time to do so will be (say, 1 year from now). Time warp to the transfer window it gives you and from there you should get a direct encounter when you make a manoeuvre node :) Scott Manley has a good video explaining phase angles and transfer windows if you want a good in depth explanation as to how it works, although he doesn't talk about Kerbal Alarm Clock in the video. Digression: if you haven't already, I strongly advise you to install Kerbal Alarm Clock and Kerbal Engineer Redux mods, the game is near unplayable without them!

+ConfidentBottle Not possible, since the amount of fuel required for Laythe means that you would need more than just 1 wing to lift the craft into the air. You could easily make a small SSTO with 1 wing with a load of Ion engines to get to Laythe though, but that would be slow and boring

+Brody Doerrie I don't I'm afraid, it's not really designed for that sort of thing though. I typically wouldn't build nuclear engines onto a ship designed to carry stuff to LKO. I would instead focusing on using more Rapier and Whiplash engines since fuel efficiency is less of an issue!

+Andrei Banguilan Dunno, selected them and placed them on the attachment point? I think you can only put the small diameter stuff on the back of the Rapier, so the green attachment point wouldn't show up unless you were trying to attach a sufficiently small part.
