Been doing some testing with SSTOs, and am unsure about the TWR for your crafts such as this one. I discovered that a good way to breach the 450m/s barrier to get those rapiers rolling is to use a couple panthers on afterburner mode to help give you that extra boost and help with climbing at low altitudes. People have recommended in the past using whiplashes, but Panthers are a lighter solution and overall increase the range of the SSTO after getting to orbit.

+Goldkoron They would help, but as soon as you're above 20km they're essentially dead weight. I went with 4 RAPIERs to minimise the dry mass. I might experiment with 2 RAPIERs and 2 Jets though, see how that turns out!

I have a challenge idea! Using a bigass rocket send an SSTO to Eve (similar to how u sent a Sub to Eve) and then fly the SSTO back I don't mean fly a SSTO to Eve cos that'd be impossible, I mean use a rocket to get it there

are you sure its impossible? install interstellar, and fit the SSTO with a warp drive.

As in, you can launch a spaceplane craft from the highest mountain of Eve and just about make it into orbit. That's it.

Wasn't the first return pass through Kerbin's atmosphere aerocapture, not aerobraking? The former is used on initial unbound trajectories, the latter on bound orbits. No need the dwell on technicalities, though. If you don't mind me asking, how do you calculate your landing site after atmospheric descent? Your SSTO had a rather large landing envelope, but is there a rule one can use for conventional ballistic return, and does it apply for FAR as well?

Ya Duna Series! :D This looks a lot like the SSTO you made in the tutorial for Minmus. Is this just a refined version of that? Also, you should consider doing a tutorial on how aerobraking into a capture orbit. You seem to be really good at it, and it is a LOT harder in 1.0.5.

Mod allows you to place ksc on any world. He probably made a new instance of ksp with that and set it to duna.

What is it with people using R.A.P.I.E.Rs? You carried the extra weight of the Nervs's, so why not use the Whiplashes in the atmosphere? The Whiplash is more efficient than the R.A.P.I.E.R, and will work in higher altitudes.

I have one very very hard to you. i call it "the real life challenge". i dare you to launch any vessel that you want to Eve and back. but, using the cockpit view only. without changing the internal view. not even to map mode to add a maneuver. like you are inside the game. more like 1st person.. you know. free to use mechjeb or any other... i gonna tell my friends that you can do this... you gonna make me lie? you are cleared to take off! see you on reentry...

In real life maneuvers are pre-calculated by mission control, so for the challenge maneuver nodes should be allowed from map view. Everything else will be 1st person. You can even move controls in cockpit :D
