Well to be fair, most Godzilla reboots had him being solo. The first movie he was alone. The first 90's movie, he was alone. And in the newest Toho movie, he was also alone. The movie could have been just fine with only Godzilla in it.... the problem is that it was not Godzilla. His name was just slapped on because it was popular, and they ruined every single thing that makes Godzilla what he is. He's not called GODzilla just to sound cool. They dropped the ball big time and almost destroyed Godzilla's reputation. In short, this movie is the Dragon Ball Evolution of all Godzilla movies.

Nah. His design doesn't scream monster you can't defeat, just an animal you can destroy with your own hands and any weapon you have on hand.
@BloodyAltima3 жыл бұрын
@@michaeljason2593 Neither does OG Godzilla. OG Godzilla is a trundling fat idiot lizard, that's why people love him! @BloodyAltima3 жыл бұрын
@@lucyditee Personally, I think the comparative sleekness is part of what makes it a compelling design- it gives it a fairly unique profile among giant monsters and conveys a sense of speed that such beasts lack. It makes for a different experience, and that's something frequently missing in a lot of monsters.
@BloodyAltima3 жыл бұрын
@@lucyditee So large bulky animals like elephants and hippos *can* run faster than you'd think, but the truly fast animals that want to use speed as a major part of their plan need a certain degree of leanness to them, and they'll always be faster than the former. Cheetahs, obviously, but big cats and big dogs/wolves in general. Runners need muscle, yes, but it needs to be lean where possible- the laws of aerodynamics are merciless. Its also less about speed, in the sense that the work just says that the monster is going really fast, and speed in the sense that it *feels* like the monster is going really fast. A Heisei film can say Godzilla's going as fast as it wants, that still won't help the fact that the design looks more elephantine than komodine. I personally find that Zilla makes a decent balance there- its clearly muscular, but its lean muscle, plenty streamlined for ease of zoom (and no wonder; everything I've seen indicates that Zilla was more directly based on actual monitor lizards than Godzilla ever was). This concludes me talking for way too long about the design of a long-forgotten misbegotten 90's Godzilla adaptation.
@michaeljason25933 жыл бұрын
@i want to commit literal genocide. Kid, this is just how he views Zilla as her own monster. Yes while Zilla was still killed by missiles designed to blow up battleships, which in my mind should have knocked her the fuck out, and her design is shit to look at, I think it could use tweaking to make it look intimidating. But personally, I would have Zilla look like an actual iguana. Her therapod stance would be at 70 meters and her upright stance would be 92 meters tall. She would have muscles to give her serious strength for her lifts and strikes while her tail would be powerful to send light weight enemies flying while staggering heavy weight ones and unleashing a shockwave with her whips to hit any opponent that is too far away from her. She would have strong jaws to help her bite force crush metal and stones with bones strong enough to resist ocean pressures. She would also have a sonic hurricane blast and a gamma ray beam if her physical strength isn't enough. As for her attitude, she would fight her opponent to the death and would rather die fighting where she stands as opposed to running away at the first sign of danger. And be durable to take man made weaponry alongside alien technology and other monster attacks while feeding on gamma radiation to power herself up.

Why the said cars even explode or how this flammable breath doesn't come into play with all the ballistic detonations going on in and around its big, ugly mug is a total mystery. KOTM was a beautiful looking film but my God were the human characters so fucking dumb (they somehow wasted Eleven meeting Tywin Lannister), Godzilla 2014 I think is the better film for it's darker atmosphere and succeed in making it grounded but the human characters were boring but at least they were smart (but they killed off Walter fucking White in the lamest way possible), so in my opinion Kong: Skull Island is the best Monsterverse film. Yeah the human characters are forgettable but John C. Reilly, Samuel L. Jackson, and John Goodman are fun as fuck to hang around, it looks beautifully, has a nice soundtrack, the Kaiju action is glorious and the human characters actually fucking help out.

Remember how Roland Emmerich said “he didn’t like two giant monsters fighting?“ Well, the movie has two giant monsters fighting. It has its own version of monster island with its own unique set of original monsters. Godzilla actually has its nuclear breath, Albeit it is green.They introduced to the idea that the reason why Godzilla doesn’t have all of the signature abilities is because each generation of Godzilla develops a new one. The ones that hatched in movie 1 received the breath and the idea was that the baby in movie was going to develop the indestructibility when it reached maturity.

Evolution is also interesting because in a way it led to the revival of Dragon Ball we have now. Toriyama was so unhappy with how badly represented Dragon Ball was for that movie that he decided he would bring the series back with Battle of Gods and be more directly involved with the production. So without Evolution being as bad as it was we wouldn't have got Battle of Gods, Resurrection of F, the DB Super Anime, the DB Super Manga continuation or the new Broly movie. The real tragedy is that this concept really could have been done well. If you look at today's Godzilla they balanced the grounded approach with the fantasy elements, ie they made the absurd notions into reasonable pseudoscience. The design of Godzilla wasn't awful in this film , but the whole premise of Godzilla is that he's well ... A God or Godlike creature this Godzilla was so animal like that we didn't get to fear him or get the thrill of seeing this Godlike creature defend the earth ( literally the only two plots Godzilla movies have). I honestly felt sorry for Godzilla and that's not what we should feel about Godzilla. Godzilla should either bring us fear , in the process making us afraid of the forces of nature or the dangers of nuclear power, or we should be inspired as we breathe a sigh of relief that this God like creature has come to save us either from an alien threat or even from ourselves. It's just sad really all around , but at least we got the animated series,
@tentaclesmod2 жыл бұрын
I think TOHO's own Shin Godzilla is a good example of what you say. Is easily one of the most distant from "core" Godzilla experience, but it succeeds by playing the "unstoppable force of nature" and "godlike being" angle very hard. Heck, they even decided for that movie that Gojira meant "Incarnation of god".

I'm not even a huge Godzilla fan (from lack of seeing anything related to it even though the concept itself sounds amazing) but those guys and how they decided to handle the big guy seriously pisses me off. Well, at least we got "No Shelter" from Rage Against The Machine. Somewhere I still have the Taco Bell cup holder. It holds my beer.

Unpopular opinion but I like this Godzilla's design

Woulda been cooler if they just confused it with what Japan called Godzilla. But was just a Kaiju in its own right.

Yo that first version of Godzilla would have been interesting to see. I think after some time it would be a good idea to do one of these for that new hellboy movie

HahaCorckondile LeaveBedding While that isn’t going to happen (although technically it did, the 2014 movie has some of the same script writers, who just basically took the old script and rearranged it.) there IS or WAS a comic being produced.

I personally loved Scott Pilgrim, and was saddened when it flopped. I would love to see what happened to cause it to bomb at the box office.

Scott Pilgrim is a movie about Canadian hipsters having a romantic spat who randomly happen to exist in the world of an old school beat-em-up game. (I love showing it to people who aren't expecting the fighting.) I think it's great, but it's just too wacky and genre-bending for a lot of people. It'd be news to me if anything actually went wrong in production!

I *love* when directors get sequels/reboots, say "Yeah that old shit was dumb. We're gonna do it MY WAY" and then it bombs and everyone hates it.

I like the design for Zilla. But I dont think it's a good Godzilla at all, or movie. If the movie was like a good Godzilla movie , and Zilla was bigger and a villain for Godzilla, I think it could have worked.
@AstroGodzilla235 жыл бұрын
Actually Toho approved this design, and so I do. The only problem with it that it needs to stand in upright pose like the Japanese Godzilla. Also If Zilla was much more aggresive and durable and had atomic breath like his son, he would've been a cool Godzilla.

@@AstroGodzilla23 This incarnation had a lot of neat abilities that could've made for a great Godzilla film. The problem was more that the crew didn't even seem to know how to use any of them effectively. They could've had the main Zilla be more of a pack leader with the babies posing a ground level threat and maybe some intermediate stages to back it up. Instead of Godzilla being just one entity, this version could've been a different force of nature like a big infestation sweeping through cities while the military tries to take it down and balance how much contamination gets spread from all the dead Zilla bodies while the main one continues to grow into a more traditional looking Godzilla for the final showdown.

They could have done a lot with this. Having Godzilla as the villain is how things pretty much started out, so that aspect is alright. I don't mind him not standing upright either, as it just makes little sense for a giant creature that's proven to be capable of hand to hand combat. The stance of this Godzilla makes more sense, as it can't just be thrown on is back with a little push. But well, why even show the offspring, if it doesn't have much relevance to the plot? And more importantly, who had that killing boner that told him Godzilla goes down with some missiles? Freaking thing is a nuclear bomb incarnate for fucks sake.

I personally love the idea of Zilla being more surmount to a subspecies/cousin species than an actual Godzilla. Like Big G is the T-Rex and Zilla is a Raptor. I wouldn't mind seeing Zilla in the Monsterverse at some point. Even if just as a mention of being a similar species that died out.
