You guys should do a competition with all different horse trainers. The phases each consisting of different disciplines (reining, barrel racing, dressage, jumping, saddleseat, gaited riding (paso fino), trick riding etc) and see who comes out on top! I think it would be so interesting to see what disciplines cross over and see who is most versatile! And if you did it I think Michael Gascon should be in it!

Yes, so that he can yank and jerk on the horses face, because that's always the best way to soften a horse...make them real defensive of their face first.

Hi Matt! I ride in the jumpers and we call the fleece a “shadow roll” and we use them for horses that flip/raise their head in front of the jump. It just encourages them to keep their head lower and the fleece blocks their view when their head is too high. Same idea :) New to your channel!

Same name for racing also. I THINK it's the same universal. Although, I could absolutely be wrong. I do know in racing the name comes from horses wanting to jump shadows and so this was invented and hence the name lol.
@jeffshimek54773 жыл бұрын
Yep, shadow roll. On the running horses, the ones who would like to get their nose up/ evade the bit didn't like roll getting in their line of sight. I was starting horses so it helped me with a different issue; colts that would spook at shadows or shade or different colored footing on the track or arena. Some wouldn't like the sun slanting in through the indoor throwing stripes on the ground etc. Cheap remedy and for starting young'uns it was very temporary.

Love seeing more and more Charros making the transition into reining. Having grown up in the same environment, the biggest revelation I received was that sometimes we have to put culture and pride which largely make up identity, behind us if what we truly desire is to evolve in our horsemanship, period. That can be hard! That's two guys now that come up to learn from you Matt! Way to be! Mariano Pedrero is a big time reiner from Mexico who branched off from a respected Charro family to work with Greg Darnell. Aswell as Lorenzo Rios with Carol Rose. I mean that's how Xtra Quarter Horses started out after all. Alot of ties!

Hey there from Ontario, Canada. Love watching you channel. I train Standardbred race horses, and show cutting horses with my grandson. What you are using is called a shadow roll, we use them for Exactly what you said for them not to see shadows, they sometimes can see tire tracks when you are racing or when it’s a sunny day they will try to jump a shadow which is why use them not on all horses but But obviously the ones I do need them. Good luck with your show season looking forward to new videos. Rheal

The fleece on the nose band is called a shadow roll. It’s purpose is to keep colts from seeing shadows, flying dirt, etc directly under them so they don’t spook/ jump sideways. Also serves the purpose you stated. Keeps there head up, looking ahead. Extending their stride.You wouldn’t believe it if you saw me, but as a teenager I was small enough to gallop race horses.

Everyone does the challenges on their normal horse and judges everyone on their normal event.

Wow there was so much in this video! Mayo is new to me. I learned about the fuzzy thing it's a shadow roll and has 2 purposes one to keep horses from being distracted by shadows looking down, and the second with eventers/jumpers, if they throw their heads up to avoid the bit it will block their vision and force them to put their heads down to see the jumps. The ones for jumpers could double as a neck pillow they're so fluffy! Good luck in VA! Clearly I've been in a bubble, I didn't know we had reigning on the east coast! 😀 I'm surrounded by hunter/jumpers and racehorses a couple states lower. 😕 Now about this competition between you and Clinton... First I vote yes! And second my vote for the third round would be you both have to create your own freestyle reigning routine, music, costumes and all judged by Dan James (his 2014 freestyle is still my favorite)! 😀
