Jeff knows what he is talking about and does a great job of explaining in laymen terms. I’ve been a golf course superintendent for 30+ years and with out the soil test you are shooting in the dark. Here is my two cents. Sorry to say trees and turf don’t go together. Look at a true forest not much turf there. So open up that canopy let the light in. Selective thinning where your problem ares are. Also get rid of the leafs that drop they can cause thin turf and can over load the bio system. Stay on a system don’t stop because it looks good, and it takes time. The two thing I love most cars and turf. This has been a great Series of video’s keep them coming.

Jeff Thanks for the kind words Jeff. I’m a former superintendent myself and have been on the sales side for 15 years. It’s been my pleasure to work with my peers for 25 years and the support we give each other in the golf industry is unmatched in any other industry. 👊🏻

Hey no problem I’m out here in the PNW where we can grow grass on blacktop. 😀 what lab are you using for the soul tests? Can’t wait for video 3.

Jeff you’re in a damn good spot to grow grass for sure. I’m using Logan Labs for the sampling. They’re based on the Brookside model which is where I cut my teeth so I feel most comfortable with them.

solid plan , he may be John Perry school of soil , turf student. out of sync micros may take some time to correct but will improve turf tremendously over long run . Macro K is often under since many fert companies do not include much if any at all . Trees, shade will remain a limiting factor as Pete Denny says...........GET YOUR DIRT RIGHT could look into ordering carbon X fert to test . will be interesting to see what is selected. probably Lesco or The Andersons

Love these videos so much. I’m constantly stressed out and very, very anxious. Every time I see you’ve uploaded a video it calms me down. There’s something about you that calms me down. Maybe it’s because you’re so into everything you’re doing - no half measures! Thank you :)

I wish I just knew how to find a guy like this in my area. Seems like everyone here is just a mow and go type of companies and not a "we want your grass to be the best on the block" type of companies...

I built and ran the largest company in the area, population 1.2 million, a multi million dollar business. I am also diagnosed OCD so I could only use the best, do the best and have every high end property, the only properties I would partner with, at absolute perfection . But in the 20 years of building that business, I found that I could have my guys dial in a yard to absolute 100% perfection with some tricks of the trade and never needed to do a soil test. I did a few time and yes it was VERY interesting and being OCD was amazing to learn, but not necessary. More important was the process, not the chemistry. Much like detailing a car, you can give a guy the best DA, the best compound, but it mainly comes down to pad choice, being able to tell hard vs soft clearcoat, pressure applied, technique. Same with turf. I could walk out there on that turf and within 6 months have full carpet absolute perfection. Trick number one, don't "aerate and overseed." Aerate, let all the holes fill in after a good rain, then inject seed 1/4 inch under the soil using a dethatcher. Seed it, run over with dethatcher, seed it again. Every seed that falls into a 1inch or deeper hole is gone. Every seed that sits on top of the soil, gone. PERFECTION. Piece of cake. Soil has a way of balancing itself out with correct applications. Oh and everything this guy is saying is spot on. He knows what he's talking about.

Having grass as a lawn is such a contrived thing which emulates the castles of European royalty. It is such a wanna be wealthy thing which has crept into American neighborhood regulations. I am surprised Matt has caved into something that is so clearly contrived, especially in Florida where this look is so hard to accomplish and maintain. Personally, I am looking forward to more people exploring good looking hardscapes or other less maintenance heavy landscaping options.
