I get asked about the Porsche bucket seats pretty often, so I wanted to make a video on both the Porsche Carbon buckets as well as how the EdGuards are holding up. I think for anyone with these seats, the EdGuards are a worthwhile investment to protect the seats. Pair that with a yearly cleaning and protection, and you're seats will stay looking perfect for years to come.

I’m 67 and after a Boxster and a 991.2 GT3 with 18 ways, I have a 718 Spyder with the LWBS and absolutely love them! So they work even for us old guys 😉

how do you like the 718 Spyder vs the 991.2 GT3?
@philgt3877

@@ben94cobra Hi Ben, the GT3 was just a bit too much car. Brilliant on a track but on the road by the time I was having fun I was either going to lose my licence or my life! The Spyder is more agile, plenty quick and offers a broader range of moods (top up, top down etc. It is the perfect car for me I think.

Today I learned Matt has good hips for child-bearing. On another note, I have a bad back and the memory foam inserts with lumbar support from P1 Designs made a huge difference in long-term comfort for me.

@@mg-by7uu Obviously everyone's back is different... I never found the stock cushions uncomfortable, but I wished they had a bit more padding and more lumbar support. The replacement cushions solve that for me. At the very least I think you'll find some improvement in overall comfort.

I am 56 yrs old and I think for me, the bucket seats are more comfortable than the 18 way seats. Sure I hate it, while exiting the car. Getting in doesn’t bother me as much but once you are in the seat, I really believe they are more comfortable than the other seats. Plus with 18 way seats, I end up screwing with the adjustment all day trying to find the perfect driving position, and next time I get in the car, I want to readjust it again searching for the perfect driving position, which I get 100% of the time while using these semi-fixed bucket seats and I never have to fiddle with endless adjustments. I think someone with OCD like myself, it is best not to give me too many options and adjustments. It will drive me nuts looking for perfection. I currently have these buckets on 4 of my Porsches ….my GT4 manual, GT4 PDK, Sypder, and GT3 manual. My Macan GT3, 911 Targa 4S, and my Taycan Turbo have 18 way seats and while I can tolerate them, I wish they all had the buckets. absolutely love the buckets and again at 56 yrs old, they are still great. I may change my mind in 10 yrs. Mark

@@ObsessedGarage lol. I really can’t focus on driving. I spend most of the time fiddling with adjustments and I never get there and while I am not paying attention to the road. The life of a man with OCD.

There is definitely a love/hate relationship with the buckets. So much so that my wife simply stopped going with me if I was taking the GT4 because she HATED them. I loved them while driving and they do look great but not sure I would spec them again. Anything that keeps me from grabbing that particular set of keys will be reconsidered going forward - just not worth it to me but everyone is different.

I didn’t know you had Lizard belts in your white GT3. I have them in my white Spyder… and here I thought I was special. Very cool, I love the splash of colour it gives to the white; which is a great GT car colour because it shows the black bits so well.

Off topic but the 90 thru 95 seats in the 300ZX were some of the best sports car seats made up to that point. Lexus GS seats in the 2000s were really good as well. I've been exposed to 100s of seats and those two stand out.

There’s also a folding bucket option (known as Sports buckets as opposed to the Full buckets which you have) which are available in UK and EU. Good for rear access to throw soft bags in the back (or thread them through the roll cage). They also work with harnesses. Is that seat available in US?

Like buying a dually that will never tow. Buying a Jeep that will never off-road. Even if just a weekend car..if it's not seeing any track work, and almost exclusively for track work, fixed back seats are sucky. Not everyone will be as lucky as Matt and be comfortable in there. Even if smaller. Fixed back seats destroy your back after prolonged driving And here. kzbin.info/www/bejne/bHKrpIl7j657qs0

Another old guy here in the 60+ age. My 911 is a pleasure car and these seats just work for me. Getting in and out takes some finesse as does driving these cars. And now thinking about it at this age and aging forward getting in and out of any car will be challenging. And yes getting into the passenger seat just throws everything off.
