Then "as per" Stroll took out Albon forcing Zhou again to go off track to dodge the incident then dodge Albon outside of the white lines. Then "as per" Stroll rejoins like he always does almost again driving into the side with Zhou holding the outside line to stay clear. If you can survive Stroll lap 1 and finish P7 you're the GOAT.

to be fair when comparing gasly v yuki that 2021 car was a rocket giving way to bigger points differentials. although they’ve definitely been too harsh on liam, like he’s still a rookie. i’m not sure where the bias is coming from and it’s getting annoying at this point. if viewed from the context of “will he beat yuki?” , yes he’s been underwhelming, but that’s the expectation coming from a fresh driver. points comparisons don’t really mean much when yuki generally qualifies well and has much better race pace. curious to see how much liam improved these coming seasons.

I cannot rap my head around these takes on Lawson performance's (ESPECIALLY the takes on his Qatar performance ) is due to a bias towards Yuki or a dislike towards Liam? For the Qatar Grand prix: - Lawson beat Yuki in both Sprint quali and Sprint race (Getting what is believed to be the slowest car for that GP into SQ3 ) - Yuki then beat Lawson in Qualifying but they were only separated by less than HALF A TENTH in q1 - And for the race Yuki finished the race 3nd to last in front of Lawson with Lawson only being 1.9 seconds behind him. Obviously context matters when it comes to the race for example safety cars reducing the gap between drivers and getting involved in incidents HOWEVER: - Yuki after the first safety car was running in P9 and dropped from p9 to p13 of of pure pace - After the spin near Bottas (which was a mistake from Lawson side) he was able to lap faster and stay within less than 4 seconds of Yuki before the next safety car - Lawson then gained a 10 second penalty for a "Collision" which im fairly certain was a incident that had 0 CONTACT - And keep in mind Lawson had confirmed DAMAGE for this race which you can find the radio at the end of the race and was still able to stay on pace if not lap faster at certain points compared to Yuki - And finally the most important thing to take into consideration is that Lawson has competed in around 1/4 of a SEASON whereas yuki has been in this sport for 4 SEASONS To say that Liam Lawson has been the most disappointing driver when you have a driver like Yuki who has been on similar pace if not even worse than Lawson (in certain GP's ) in equal machinery while boasting more than 4x the experience is WILD Definitely when you have another driver on the grid Franco Colapinto who was hyped up at one point to be worthy of driving a REDBULL next to Max next year yet has been binning the car just as much if not more than SARGENT. It’s unfair to say Lawson is underperforming when compared to Tsunoda. Tommy - "he has not performed as well as Yuki Tsunoda at all" Let’s examine the facts: In his current stint, Lawson has raced five times and scored points twice, finishing P9 both times. Here's the breakdown: GP finishes: Lawson 2 vs Tsunoda 3. Lawson (P9, P16, P9, P16, P14) vs Tsunoda (P14, P20, P7, P9, P13). Sprint results: Lawson 2 vs Tsunoda 1. Lawson (P16, P9, P16) vs Tsunoda (P11, P15, P17). In qualifying, Tsunoda has outqualified Lawson in each GP session, but it hasn’t been a landslide. Consider the context: Austin: Lawson set the faster time but was tasked with helping Tsunoda due to a massive grid penalty he inherited. Even with Lawson’s tow in Q2, Tsunoda couldn’t post a better time. Lawson's time in Q1 was good enough for P9 had he been able to participate in the other sessions. Mexico: Tsunoda qualified 11th and Lawson 12th, separated by just over a tenth. However, Tsunoda’s crash in Q2 denied Lawson, who was on a strong lap, the chance to progress further. Brazil: Both excelled in wet conditions, with Tsunoda qualifying P3 and Lawson P5. Las Vegas: Lawson struggled in the cold, dirty conditions-unique on the calendar-while Tsunoda’s experience paid off. Lawson qualifying P16; Tsunoda, P7. Qatar: Both cars lacked pace the whole weekend. Lawson missed Q2 by less than a tenth, with Tsunoda advancing but only to P14. Lawson qualified P17. Sprint qualifying tells a different story though: Lawson 2 vs Tsunoda 1. Lawson (P15, P8, P10) vs Tsunoda (P9, P18, P17). - Lawson somehow got the slowest car on the Grid in Qatar to P10 in the sprint qualifying. This is Tsunoda’s fourth year in F1. Is this his ceiling? Meanwhile, Lawson is just starting out and will only improve with experience. I wouldn't say Yuki Tsunoda has performed much better given his experience, take out Las Vegas and I give it to Liam.

With Ocon from my understanding it's less of an issue of the team and more an issue of sponsors and obligations that come with them. By ending his contract early that also releases him from all his sponsorship and other post-season obligations, while if he saw the season out with Alpine that would not be the case. He'd still have to participate in post-season events for Alpine and I remember reading that *if* he was allowed to test for Haas he would have to wear a blank white racing suit to avoid breaching sponsor contracts. By releasing him early like this however he's freed from all of those obligations and can also integrate himself with Haas during the Abu Dhabi race weekend already. It's still not ideal obviously and most likely favors Alpine a hell of a lot more than it does Esteban, but there's at least more to it than is first apparent.

Bit of European bias boys? 8 for Piastri, Russell and Sainz. Piastri started behind Russell in both races and beat him in both. Great overtake in sprint around the outside from behind. Chased in him down in the main race and forced him to pit early. You criticised him for not overtaking Russell then acknowledged how hard is to overtake when discussing Russell and Alonso. You talk about him finishing behind LeClerc when the only reason for that was poor timing on the pit stop, after pulling a great move on him from the restart. Not sure what Sainz did to deserve 8, he was quiet.

Like the fans did, I'd also put Norris higher, he was staggering in the sprint, slowing up to keep Piastri in DRS - and also repaying the P1 back. Main race: he was on Verstappen most of the race and while he made a mistake with the yellow flags, he didn't whine about it or be despondent when coming out of the pit being 17s behind Lawson, the back marker (prior to pit he was 16s in front of LAW) but drove like a rocket, with 1m22 laps while everyone else were doing 1m26 laps, and got to P10 in 8 laps, getting fastest laps (several times). MAG was just too far to get to P9. At the end he was 27s in front of LAW, in 4 laps had put 13s in front of the car behind (BOT), and he might have got to P9 passing MAG with another lap or two. If you can watch his onboard lap 46 to the end, you FEEL the speed, every corner was perfect, every lap was Quali speed. When there were cars in the distance, he was so fast quick he caught up with them in a few turns.

Checo has become the antithesis of Max Verstappen, driver-wise. I've never cared for him as a driver and after this performance my disdain for him is complete. His only use was getting useful data in the sprint for the RBR's which ultimately led to the major changes which allowed Max to have performance he needed and delivered on rather than trumbling around as he did in the Sprint.

A 3 for Lawson is harsh - Tsunoda got a 5, and they weren't far away from each other during the weekend. As for Tommy saying he's been one of the most underwhelming drivers this season... he's only had 5 races man! And scored points in two of them.
@johnnybatten622914 сағат бұрын
I completely agree. The media in general including these guys are being so harsh on him and moving the goal posts so much. The man has had 1/4 of the races of most other drivers this season and hes in an RB which is garbage compared to formula a. I dont get it tbh

A 3 is very hash especially taking into account that he got the slowest car on the grid to SQ3. Also, Liam made up almost as many places a Yuki in the GP from the start but no mention of that. I think these guys are blindly playing along with some of the negative media out there in regards to Lawson.

Although I think Russell is a great driver, I just can’t find anything about him to like. But with that in mind I think the reason he didn’t finish in the podium is because the Jeniuses in the Mercedes strategy department but a second set of hards on this car. His first stint on mediums, when the car was heavy, lasted more laps than were remaining. He could have been the only front runner out there on mediums and on the attack. But the idiots in the office messed up.

Matt asks when was the last time we heard of an engine over delivering? I think the bigger question we need to be asking regarding Perez, is when was the last time we ever heard Perez admit to a mistake instead of blaming the car, the track, the weather, or another driver. He always blames something else. In Monaco, he wouldn't take responsibility, in Baku, he refused to take responsibility, even Monaco last year, he blamed the car. His personal lack of accountability could honestly be a huge weakness for him, probably believing himself that he is never at fault, meaning he will never be able to learn from his mistakes like drivers who do put their hand up.

I'm so conflicted with how to rate Russell since he had such great qualifying on both Friday and Saturday but then did the usual thing of lacking race pace to fight against the better cars. He was able to keep up in the sprint but I'm pretty sure Lando had a lot left in the tank and could've been miles ahead if he wanted. In the race though, he lost out big going into turn 1 when he's usually really good in turn 1 battles. He didn't have the pace to keep up with Max and Lando, so they went for an undercut but got fucked over by a 7s stop. When they pit him again they put him in the hards when he wanted the mediums again, so he just didn't get the opportunity to try and fight for the podium. He was able to at least recover to 4th after having an abysmal time stuck behind Alonso. Russell's turn 1 mistake cost him a very unlikely but potential win, but Merc cost him the podium with the poor pitstop and hard tire. It's a performance on paper that should probably be a 4-5 but I want to give him a 7 maybe even a stretched 8 for just keeping his head down and making the best out of the shit hand he was dealt. I am biased however so who fucking knows anyway. I just wish Merc could get their shit back together and have consistently good pit stops again. They really need to be listening to George and following his instructions because he's been making some absolutely stellar calls even if he's not able to take advantage of them. He is going to be the number 1 next year and Merc needs to seriously start treating him as an experienced driver that knows what he's doing rather than a suggestion box that they get to pick and choose what suggestions they actually go along with. Edit: Apparently I was actually being pretty harsh. Guess the fan factor made me more critical this time along. My stretched 8 isn't a stretch at all and he does deserve it. I'm probably just a bit salty at Merc and I'm being a downer at the missed podium.
@danieljardim524511 сағат бұрын
I can agree with an 8, though I would even argue for a 9. I believe if it weren't for the 7s pit he would have gone out ahead of 2 or 3 cars, which would allow him to battle for a podium. Aside from the poor start, I think he performed very well
@russ99a11 сағат бұрын
Yeah, I take some comfort in how George kept Piastri behind him for so long despite an obvious straight line speed disadvantage against Piastri, even without DRS. He just hit those high speed corners so well, he managed to get a .7 or so lead before the straight every lap. Did well without real pace, and P4 was fair considering Piastri probably would have passed him at some point, probably on a later pit if not sooner. For me the real question is Allison going to figure out the car next year or not.

I think you are looking at the Ocon conspiracy the other way around. Briatore joined Alpine officially in June. Since then Ocon had 2 races where he finished better than 13 and one was in Brazil under rain - the great equalizer. He was "late" in getting upgrades, and in the fight with a rather equal driver he has fallen off tremendously. I find it really hard to believe that Alpine has been treating Ocon fairly; I am much more believing that Briatore is making a spectacle out of him - that they kicked the "right" driver who was not good.
