16 is strong for building structure 18 is strong but a bit more bendable 20 is for making designs, cages for stones, etc. 22 is for more delicate designs 24-28 are for tying different parts of thicker wire together to hold pieces in and strengthen them.

Superb demo! Very much appreciated. I've never done this so very new. This looks like a beautiful and simple design I could make. I've been wondering what size wire to get - this is the hard part. What core, what gauge, whether round, square, half round, how soft, etc. Copper is pricey. This is coated aluminum most likely. Dead soft flexibility too, like aluminum. Brass is used in good quality plated wire. Copper tarnishes thru the coating and is too pricey, so you never see coated copper wire, only solid copper. Cheaper wire is either aluminum or lead/pewter which is very soft and not as solid as brass. You also don't mention if you are working with Dead Soft, Half Hard, or Hard wire. This should be mentioned, along with base material. Cut it. If its red inside its copper, yellow = brass, gray or silvery = lead. Noisy background. Use a wind sock on your mic. Thanks for no music. What a joy! Great visuals, and you are a good teacher.

Hi! I just started making rings and have been loving it so far! However, I noticed my rings have marks from the pliers. I’m wondering if it could be that I’m pressing/squeezing too hard or is it the type of pliers? I’m using the “long nose pliers”. Hoping that with practice they’ll look as beautiful as your rings! Thanks!
@MattsCrazyArt5 жыл бұрын
Scratching and marring the wire is part of learning. Everyone does it. Usually, you are not applying enough strong grip to the wire. Sometimes you have the wrong angle. The more pieces you make, the better you will get at navigating how to hold and press and squeeze the pliers. You can wrap masking tape or painter's tape around the pliers for now, kind of as training wheels and that keeps them from scratching.
