That Moment was sorrowful to think of all the young men in America that will got to bed tonight not even knowing their father will never have a father that will teach them to man up look a man in the eye and shake his hand. They should also be taught, you cant look someone in the eye, with sunglasses on. Shaking someones hand with gloves on, removes a part of the personal interaction aspect, which is the entire point in shaking their hand.. Kids... Take off your gloves, take off your sunglasses, shake his hand, and look him in the eye. I ride with a motorcycle club, and not removing gloves and glasses are seen as a major sign of disrespect, that has gotten a lot of people punched in the face! A lot of people believe thats uncalled for and unacceptable. I believe that if you learn manors and respect, you have nothing to worry about. If you dont, I will teach you, right in the face.

THAT is what caught my eye about Matt's Off Road in particular his Morvair, his generally raw + clever improvisational shop work, excellent recovery experience, his undying spirit and his Solid ethics, Family and Community Merits. Rhett is super skilled now at his job. That Toyota pull with the Jet Ski's shows how well he knowns how to help just enough without letting the towline get too slack. And I mean, in the sand with those loads, it is really an ART, and he is an artist now, like his Dad. And regarding the professional handshake at the end of a job. Kudo's to Matt for teaching this dwindling but necessary tradition. Regardless of what you say Rhett, what you are really saying is "I am a man and my word is my bond. I see you and expect the same, and give you the same respect (women also of course but it is especially a Man thing to Shake a hand and show mutual respect.) I SEE you. You have SEEN me. Respect. It is a behavioral contract that demands honesty and good intentions. These things were a life and death covenant in the old world, and they are still important in the modern world. A hand shake means something, and I would not shake a mans hand unless I had at least minimal respect for them. Sometimes I cheat in the modern times and do a fist bump. It means the same thing, but is not as tactile as a firm handshake. Don't be a soft pudding, but don't try to get into a squeezing contest either. Just show some fortitude and humility What you say is less important than the respect you show. These are things passed down from my father and my fathers fathers as being important in greeting and de-greeting other men. And in business, with women or men, it means integrity. Databyter

I didn’t think the Corvair would make it through the summer heat so I traded it in for a Chevy Impala. I’m 76 now and still wish I had it back. Back in the 60's, when I was a wee small boy, my uncle used to buy and sell cars to make some extra money. He really liked Corvairs. He had at least a dozen different ones but of course, he sold them all. I believe he only bought 4-speed models. I remember him taking me and my mom (his sister) for a ride in one of those Corvairs. He was driving along like, I don't know, maybe 30MPH in third gear he says to my mom "watch this". He pulls it into second gear and mashes the throttle and we were just pinned to the seat! That is a memory and feeling I will never forget. I never owned one myself though. It was a pretty neat design. Six cylinder, horizontally opposed, air cooled, rear drive. Completely opposite of everything coming out of Detroit at the time. I don't know to this day though, what made it unsafe at any speed.

If you all have corvairs you should do a big scavenger hunt/rally with them. Everyone takes their own corvairs, with passengers of their choice to build a team. Brainstorm a bunch of ideas separately, then hand it all into whoever is going to set it all up. Pick the best ideas and checkpoints then randomize the order and hand out lists that way everyone's looking for different things at different times!

I love this idea. Include some old school navigation (no GPS), some scenic areas (best Crovair picture?), some touring (TSD) rally elements. So many possibilities! Maybe they could invite some other Corvair clubs/owners to participate (depending on how big they want the thing to be).

I have to say that there are a lot of unsafe cars on the road today. Yes they have a ton of safety upgrades compared to the 1960's Corvairs but the cars nowadays flip over and roll over, I think, a lot quicker than the Corvairs did in there day. At least the center of gravity of the Corvair is lower than most of the SUVs out and about today. This is a great build and you'll have a lot of fun with it when it's done. But no car project is really ever done! ! ! 😀😀

Former fire extinguisher technician here - I recommend you guys get one CO2 extinguisher for spot-extinguishing the little flareups you guys get on a regular basis. Those 15-20 pound yellow-powder ABC extinguishers on the walls are in good spots for big emergencies, like they should be. But those start leaking air the moment you break the seal, so you can't use them trivially. A CO2 extinguisher can be used whenever you need it until you run it dry, and doesn't leave residue.

It may have been overstated time in and time out… but my grandfather used to tell me stories of dropping flathead V8 engines in these things and racing them from Pueblo Colorado to Florence Colorado doing insane things to get there. The stretch isn’t really far but the altitude change and road curves and conditions were fun….and the local police presence was just another challenge for the course. Regardless of his old school bench-racing about times long past… he was a old school rodder that wasn’t afraid to use the duct tape and knew that the difference between Chevrolet and Ford and Chrysler (or any other brand) was just a bench grinder and eyeball measurement away from heavy footed horsepower. I miss him and wish I had been able to pick his brain for more wisdom before he passed many years ago. You have some of the most lucky employees and kids… they have no idea what gift they are being given every time you share your knowledge. Won’t be long before there is nobody to pass on that Corvair knowledge and that will be a shame… as the cars get rusty and fade away so do the people with the passion and knowledge of the cars… May your appreciation and knowledge live on through your children and friends….continue passing that torch.

That's pretty cool that the Corvair is simple to run and operate. It's my favorite way for a vehicle to run, simple. It's great to see Jake lit up with excitement as his Corvair is brought back to running condition, running but not stopping as he happily declared. Awesome work you all. Rhett, remember your mission on the recovery, to "get them out". That can be your safe way to close out the recovery; a firm hand shake, as you look the customer in the eye tell them, "Glad that we could get you out". They may not be able to drive their vehicle for a while, yet you still "Got them out".
@bgee4613 ай бұрын
It's funny that people claim to like simple, then go out and buy lane assist, dynamic cruise control, 18 airbags, heated and cooled seats, 20" infotainment, etc... up until recently you could buy a Nissan Micra with manual everything for under $10gs. Nobody bought one.

@@bgee461 I have an '83 Dodge D100, completely manual. No A/C, no power steering, no power brakes, AM/FM radio, manual roll up windows. The magnetic pick up gives a vastly improved spark to the ignition system. So, yes I do prefer old school simple.

Jake asked what I would do if my friends and I all had cool Corvairs like yours… Well, I’d pick a Saturday this Fall and plan to drive down from Hurricane, through St. George to Ivens and up past Gunlock reservoir to Veyo. Then I’d head up through Pine Valley past Mountain Meadows Historic Site on 18 through Enterprise, then over to Cedar on 36. Depending upon how much time we’d already spent stopping at all the cool spots along the way, I might just head down the 15 and back to Hurricane through Toquerville. But if we had time, it would be worth it to run up through Cedar Canyon past Navajo Lake on 14 and down into Kanab/Fredonia on 89 and back to Hurricane past the Pipe Spring National Monument through Hildale/Colorado City on 389. Of course, you could save that second part for another great cruise on another weekend. Also might make excellent content with all those cool places to stop along the way…just thinking’ - lol. When I got out of the Army in 75 and needed a car, we repossessed it, i found a guy locally that had a 63 he wanted rid of and all I had to do was give him the instrument cluster and headlights. Towed it to the uncle's body shop and swapped the motor. Gave the salvaged body to the uncle and had a sweet ride, with the optional gas heater! Very useful in Utah winters. Matt you are a good man . Very gracious. Jake thank you for taking some time and giving Dawn and I a yard tour early this year. 21:56 Covair sounds nice. Moves under its own power time to get a burger. God bless one and all.

Jake is such a good kid! Sorta like when your kid gets his license and takes off out of your yard for the first time! A great video Matt!

We had a family friend growing up who lived down the street from us, and he was a corvair guy. Had at least 4 at any time, 2 station wagons and 2 sedans. When my old mustang broke down, he loaned us one of the sedans, and man I have fond memories of that thing. It's not for me, but I get a big smile knowing corvair guys like Matt are still out there doing their thing.

If I'd just gotten my vintage Corvair running after a long time, I wouldn't need to go "get" anything, I'd just go and enjoy driving it! I got a 62 Monza in college in Youngstown Winter, late December 67 and kept it until Summer. It was my college "beater". It was a rust belt Corvair but it was a good car. Had the base engine with the Power Glide. Often wish I could find another one! Good cars for sure.

Can always watch a Corvair video. My first two cars were a 61 and 64 Corvairs the 64 I bought for $400 in 68. Had a a seat that slipped out of head. Rebuilt at auto shop in Fort Hood TX. Had to part with it to go to college. After a 42 year layoff bought a replacement 64 with 41000 miles.

When I was young my friend had a 62 Corvair Monza and we got hamburgers and cruzed Hollywood Blvd. He got it new in 62 and by 63 we had the front lowered all chrome wheels dual exhaust and much more. Your bringing back memories guys, thanks

I am more of a VW guy, but there is a place in my heart for the other air cooled rear mounted engine vehicles.... I even think the two engines sound a bit alike.

Some adventures of my Corvair in the late 1960s and early 70s. This is in northeast PA. Winter time, the snow and ice would accumulate and freeze around the front steering. I would lift the front with the farm loader to allow the sun to melt it. Another time, I went over a bump, and it stopped dead. The rear engine bolt dropped out and pulled the fuel line apart.
