Yup. The only crop that is guaranteed to grow. I always laugh at those who say "why do you not just get rid of the rocks, one time and you'd never have to deal with them again". Not understanding the earth brings them forth every winter.

Lot's of fun moving rocks. I'm looking forward to seeing your Dad's video on the original Homestead. The Ol Timers picked up a bunch of rocks.

This was surprisingly fun to watch. Got me thinking how many hands pulled those rocks from the fields. A relatively small project yielding good results.

Usually you get to the bottom of those rock piles and you find out why the rock pile was there! One giant boulder that couldn’t be budged in the horse and buggy days.

One day during my youth, I was raking hay with the Oliver 66. I was picking up rocks as I raked, placing them on the platform under my feet. By the time I was done raking, I could no longer use the brakes, because of the large pile of rocks at my feet.

That rock works well for building driveways. We dig down a few feet put a bunch of field stone and top with gravel for a driveway that holds up to heavy traffic. Moving rock piles is always interesting to find the reasons not to they started where they are usually a wet spot or a rock that was deemed unmovable

There is a 20 acre area near me that has dry stone dykes splitting it into about 2 acre plots. But many of them are half underground now as moss has grown and decomposed, but there is no big stones in the area now as they are all in the dykes or have been used in building foundations for houses and roads in that area over the last 100 years

Wow Wow Wow Wow That was a huge project moving all of those 🪨!!!!!!!!!! Great video Welkers!!!!!!!!! I can see why you wanted to move that pile of rock when it made you move machinery around it all the time. Getting that field flat again was a good move. I have never seen a pile of rock like that before in the middle of a field. Glad you were able to move them. Running the tillage machine over that area was a good move also. Kind of leveled the area off when done removing the rock. Amazing project. Fantastic results. Good job done. ✅ Thanks for everything Welkers. My blessings to you all. The Iowa farm boy. Back in the 60’s & 70’s when we would plow, disc, and drag before planting we would be out in fields with a stone sled picking up stones and dumping them in the fence rows. One day a guy asked my dad how much he would sell those stones for. I about fell over wondering why someone would pay money for rocks.

How come you guys never got the inboard battery maintainers so you can plug the trucks in during the winter and keep a trickle on them (along with battery warmers). Granted those have a cost each winter for power - but still cheaper than new batteries every year.
@WelkerFarmsАй бұрын
@@redneckcoder I think because we would need like 50 of them and that means 50 extension cables with multiple power strips layed all across the floor waiting to be crushed when equipment drives in and out. They work great for a few machines here and there but for a large farm it is a challenge to equip every battery with a maintainer.

This reminds me of Robert Frost’s poem, “Mending Wall.” I know this is not the meaning of the poem, but the truth is rocks appear out of nowhere and need to be stacked somewhere out of the way. According to Mr. Frost, good (rock) fences make good neighbors (again, not the meaning of the poem). One might as well stack them on the property line.

I saw all those rock's, and i thought about the Goonies movie where the big gug says, "rocky road", when he tried the rocky road ice cream for the first timel. The pile did look like a road of rock when you pulled up to it lol. I always feel better than when i get a big mess like that cleaned up. When i bought my house, there was a huge mess of sticks and wild grape vines all weaved together about 40x60 ft., and it took awhile to cut it all out because there were little tree's trying to grow up through it as well, and kt just kept getting bigger, but last fall i finally cut all the vines and tree's out, burned it all up, and dug out the stumps left over, so i can finally mow over the area. I have a lot of medical stuff going on, and it took me from 2011 until 2023 to finally kill all the stuff taking over part of my back yard. I had a guy passing out voting pamphlets who has lived in the area for awhile tell me how much better the place looks since i moved in and cleared that all out, plus all the repairs i made on the house and barn improved thing's a lot. The bad, the county raised my property taxes due to improvements, that's just crazy. The only good thing, is that i paid 11, 000 for the land and house, because somebody stole the well pump, electrical box, aluminum screen's, tore the plumbing up, and it needed the roof shingled. I fixed everything, but paid a friend of the family to tear off the old shingles and put new one's on, so now i don't have a payment, which is a blessing with how much everything costs now. Now that the progressive MS i have is getting worse, I'm glad all that is fixed. I would not be able to afford the rent they charge where i live if the Lord hadn't been watching out for me. Most one bedroom flats even in the city are more than 800$ a month, plus the cost of water and sewage is insanely high along with insurance, and food, it would be hard since im disabled, and needing a couple surgeries, i don't know how people do it. I have a well and septic out in the country, and I've heard about people having to pay a deposit of 350$ to get the water turned on. I pray for those struggling to just keep a roof over their head, and if they have kid's, i understand now why i see more people holding signs asking for help. I try to help the people i see with a sign, because before 2020, i never saw people in town needing help. I don't have a lot, but i try to help when i can, because i have been blessed not to be in that situation. G-d bless everyone.
