If you like that weightless glide action- try the Bacon Rind junior on a free rig. I've been fishing the Bacon Rind creature baits for a long time- my brother bought tons of them right before they got discontinued. I still have several packs and if you're fishing at least semi-deep water- deep enough to throw a free rig and take advantage of that two-stage fall- this bait gets bit. The weight pulls it down a few feet, slides away and hits bottom- and then the bait glides down weightless behind it. It works great for spotted bass- if you know where they are- not the best search bait. Great video- thanks.

Not sure if you would agree, but when I fish those either Texas rigged or Carolina rigged I'm always fishing them on monol so that they have a little more lift and can glide further.

I will use monofilament as a carolina rig leader to get the lift, but fish them on fluorocarbon with a texas rig.

Also most brush hawgs have a top side and a bottom side. run them across your finger and if the wings turn out and up that tells you that is the top side of the bait if they turn in it's the bottom side.

i m here in northern illinois. March was a great month for my local private pond. Water was cleaner and caught big 17” monster bass on drop ehot with missile baits Ned bomn. April good month. May: TERRIBLE. Same pond. Plenty of blow ups but regardless of what I cast ( drop shot, crankbiat, suspending jerkbait, senko, swimbait, ned ridg) but no bite. I did see some bluegill being chased and then get eaten. What has happened in May besides terrible weather and no heat

Hey Matt. Really off the wall question for you if you don’t mind. I know it has nothing to do with tackle of baits but I know your into helping people with info, tips and tricks so here it goes. What’s a good deep cycle battery brand that I can run my fortrex with? Something I can walk in and grab off the shelf basically. I only run the fortrex on my battery’s. No other electronics or discharges at all. I’m running group 29’s now that are only a year old and they quit on me. My fault. Didn’t store them properly over the winter. Oh I should of specified. Either led acid or a inexpensive decent AGM? Thanks bubba. Appreciate all you do. 🤙🏼
@MattStefanFishing2 жыл бұрын
ive never found a good battery until i started running battle born lithium. well worth the investment. my advice to you if wanting to stay with lead acid and AGM would be to buy one that has a good warranty program.

Matt, what is the benefit of using such a heavy sinker? Is it just for speed and efficiency? I generally fish a brushhog with a 3/16 and a baby brushhog with a 1/8-3/16 in water up to 20 ft. I realize it takes a tad longer to fall to 15-20ft but they glide even better with the lighter sinker. In clear water I occasionally fish a heavier sinker to try to draw more of a reaction bite but generally fish it with a smaller sinker.
@MattStefanFishing2 жыл бұрын
i prefer using lighter if possible but will upzise my weight basded on depth, thinckness of cover, water clarity, and some days the fish just want a fast fall to generate reaction strikes.
