Here I am, the musky guy on the bass fishing channel... Vibration is the deal! A long time musky guy named Dick Moore once said the blade is for the fish and the dressing is for the fisherman. His point was the vibration the blade makes the lure more/less attractive. Never had the guts to throw just a blade/body and hook with no dressing but I will at some point. Think how effective the first Mepps spinners were. No dressing or maybe just a red plastic tube on a blade/body with a hook. Also remember the Stanley Vibra-shaft spinner baits. Thinner wire allows more of the blade vibration to be transmitted into the water. I've rolled my own in-line spinners for decades for muskies. Started cheap with thin wire and as baits got more and more bent up went to heavier and heavier wire. Hmmmph. Doesn't seem like I'm doing as well as I used to. Remembered the "Vibra-shaft" thing and went back to thinner wire. Yep. I'm doing better 😃 Here's one more thing. I liked willow blades but they always seemed hard to start on an in-line spinner. I started playing with the blade cupping and found that a nearly flat willow spins on contact with the water and ALSO really thumps unlike a regular cupped blade. Lots and lots of variables. Matt's been really great with sharing. Don't be afraid to experiment. I can make your day. Matt, if you're on big fish you need to try my custom 2 ounce spinnerbait with a #10 single Colorado. Now that's a thumper!
@MattStefanFishing2 ай бұрын
Geez i bet that thing thumps! Thanks for sharing!

A 3/4 oz spinner bait with a #5-6? Colorado Blade and a shad body trailer that's a thumper! That color was crazy! But the dark color in the tanic water made sense! When you saw, how the bass darken up! Like the swinging head design! Nice fish on a bluebird high pressure day! The third day, they probably adjusted to it and started feeding again? Bluebirds are tough fishing!

Single blade spinner baits work pretty well for the saltwater, especially for redfish. You might like the Strike King Redfish Magic spinnerbaits because you can change the body. They come with a paddle tail on a jig head and it's like a big Beetle Spin frame but bigger. And they're made for redfish so they're pretty stout. They have gold or silver.

hope the guy that left early sees this video. I have already started putting my spinnerbaits to work this year. Will start looking for those picasso swing head spinnerbaits. Your point of how they inhale the bait into their mouth and it turns toward them so the hook is aligned to go into their mouth resulting in a better hook up makes great sense. Thanks for the video.

Thanks Matt for the video. This is a breath of fresh air. Last year I was messing around in the garage and I found a old spinnerbait single blade Colorado like you're fishing. I remember catching quite a few fish on it and it got mangled up. I sat it up on the dash of the boat vowing to repair it at some point. Years later I finally repaired it and put a new skirt on it. Went fishing in the kayak and landed about a six-pounder about 3 ft from the kayak. I saw the bite and everything. It was awesome! The bite was viscous! .. I watch so many bass fishing videos where they say " I only fish double Willow. No need for anything else" and that's fine for them. But different scenarios. Different environments create different patterns and I don't like the idea of just taking all my Colorado blade. Spinner baits and packing them away because like you I like feeling that thump. Way before The ChatterBait there was the Colorado blade. Cheers

Matt you need to check out the bottom up beetle. The hook up tackle sells them. It has a blade that is attached up and down between the wire arms of the bait. It also has normal blades like a spinner bait. When you reel it the normal blade spin and the one that is connected to both arm vibrates. It feels a lot like a bladed jig coming thru the water but more subtle. The bait was voted best new lure in Japan last year. I have crushed fish on it and I think if you try it out you will be impressed

I’ll check it out

One difference between myself and pro's is, I take my time reeling the fish in. I let it fight as much as I can, not to the point where they are totally exhausted, but enough that I enjoy the fight. Cool spinnerbait. I wish they didn't cost so much.

Our fish are still avoiding the heat instead of looking for heat. We’re still in the 90s in north Texas. It’s crazy for October.

@@DFWdarin I’m in my 60s and Ray Roberts is my home lake. It’s gotten a lot hotter since I was a kid. Lived here all my life. October used to be long sleeve shirt weather. I plant a lot of flowering trees on my farm for my beehives and now I’ve had to start planting more desert type trees to survive in my dry sandy soil. It rains much less now. Last year was a disaster. I lost some mature pecan trees I planted in the 1980s to the heat and drought.

@@jamesbarron1202 yep. I'm 49 and I distinctively remember having to bring a jacket to school in the morning and by the end of the day you didn't need it. But during October always got to wear the long sleeves and start busting out the jackets. Not anymore. It's amazing only 30 or 40 years. How much has changed
@jamesbarron12022 ай бұрын
@@DFWdarin especially all the people here now. I remember driving on 1-35 from Krum to Carrollton and all the open country along 1-35. No more. Solid buildings, homes and concrete. I think that’s one reason it’s so hot. All that stuff retains heat unlike grass and trees that shade the ground. All those AC compressors and vehicles generate a lot of heat also. I looked up climate history for this area from the first 10 years when they began recording the number of 100+ degree days in a year and the last (most recent) 10 years and we get 4 times the amount now.

Favorite bait ever! Bring it back Matt! Also, that lake looks familiar. Is that the "unknown" lake you found on Google Earth and was testing (I believe) the Ozark Rig just before or at its release? Also curious as to whether the water up there every gets warm enough for a thermocline to develop and if you experience lake "turnover?" Keep them coming!
