Absolutely right my friend didn't nok his bolts fully and broke two different bow limbs. After me telling him you need to push the bolt fullf in till it stopped.

@@draggindeeroutdoors I have one downstairs with a bad cam. I thought maybe was a just had the arrow seated. Than bought a new bow. Luckily I just broke the string on it but I know that one was seated all the way.

Great information! I don’t shoot groups because I don’t want to ruin bolts but didn’t think about the nocks specifically getting stressed, weakened, partial breaks. Thanks for the insight on this.

Coming to this video bc my crossbow just blew up in my face . Limbs didn’t break but the string did as well my stock blew backwards at my chest and bruised me pretty good . Few small cuts on the face as well but I never thought a stock would break at the trigger and blow back at me with all the force of the bow

Wow that’s crazy. Glad you’re ok. I’ve never heard of a bow breaking like that, however there is a lot of energy in a crossbow. Bolt/nock failure that results in essentially a dry fire…anything can break.

More important than the knocks are the bolts they are attached to. Manufacturers sell you the lightest bolt out there because everyone wants those big long 100 yard shots too look cool. What they dont realize is a light bolt translates to shock on the limbs which leads to failure and breakage. Moving from 400gr to closer too 500 is much better. You lose yardage but gain smack. Well worth the trade and your crossbow will love you for it

Nice video. One thing that could be a problem with lighted nocks, especially Lumenok style ones that just slide in and out is that they are sticking out of the arrow too far and at the initial firing the string is pushing the nock forward into the shaft. The nock slams into the shaft and that sudden impact causes something to break. That lack of resistance normally caused by the arrow results in a partial dry fire. Anything greater than a fingernail's thickness gap between the shaft and the head of the nock is just going to invite problems. The nock needs to be out just enough so it does not light up. I have seen people so overly concerned that the nock will turn on that they have the gap at 5/32 inch (4mm) or greater.

I believe pile drivers are standard with a half moon nock. If so, they will work with the X1.

Great video and I only wish I'd seen this one sooner! I'm having issues with my Barnett Raptor FX, especially with the nock not fully engaging the string. In addition, the slightest movement or tap on the bow pushes the bolt forward. I've been watching this closely for some time now, and I'm always careful to be sure that even when I release the safety that the bolt stays firmly against the string. I'm using Nocturnal's and I've had some string jump issues. I've changed to the Universal Chinese lighted nocks with some success but I still haven't solved this problem I thought it might be caused by the plastic arrow retention holder not putting enough pressure on the bolt. I had planned to replace this with the brush style, that Barnett sent me, but that retrofit is complicated and involves removing the trigger housing as well. This is beyond my DIY skill set. Check out this video where the arrow only flew about 10 yards, and yes I missed the deer! The string did come off the cams too! Fast forward to the 5:38 minute mark! That’s kind of the reason why I staying with a lower draw weight and a slower shooting bow I’ve got the Barnett XP 350 it have a 165 pound draw weight and I’m not so worried about speed as I am penetration

good video but I have a doubt, I have a killer instinct swat XP and I don't know what is the correct way to insert the arrow, I stopped my shots because the nocks are deformed after the shot, any advice for me in particular? I have a Ravin R29X, that has been a treat to shoot. However, the lighted knocks I steered away from. Too pricey. More than double the price per bolt, when compared to the non-lighted counterparts. Now this gives me another reason to steer clear. That being the lighted knocks are less durable. Nope🙅‍♂️. Not about to pay more than double for something that has a higher rate of failure. P.S. over the past few weeks, I've purchased several six packs of the Ravin 400grn .001 bolts(old version not intended to be used with R500), for $89 and change plus tax, off Amazon. While at the same time, the exact same bolt, but with lighted knock is $99 plus tax for a three pack, on Amazon.

Very good video, group shooting should only be done for sighting in purposes only. And mainly for speed rings adjustment not even for the turrets lol. But thats the only time for group shooting.

@@tygappleberry5571 if you shoot one bolt at max range it hits perfect but the other 7 shoot way high you need to account for those 7 once 8 are all in a good group of half inch or better at max range than you different dot shoot.

@Chris Ruzsa Well I'm never gonna shoot at Max range because I'm not gonna shoot that far at a animal,, however if it does what it's supposed to do I don't have to worry about the rest of them not doing what it is supposed to do,,, because my target is dead,, one shot one kill,, If I'm practicing with 6 or however many bolts that I am practicing with which incidentally are the same ones that I hunt with,, I will already know which ones won't fly so good,, considering I rebuild them,, broadhead tune them & nock tune my own bolts they all fly great,, Proper preparation prevents poor performance,,

@@tygappleberry5571 to be properly setup for ethical hunting ranges you should be properly set up. And to do that is to have your sights set perfectly which is only done by going to max range and sighting in from there. Once thats done then you will be fine tuned from then. It really is important this way the closer shots are that much more accurate. It will also help fine tune those bolts that are not flying the exact same even better. But to each there own. I like ti have all my bolts hit were my reticle is consistently.
