As a male child who sometimes liked to wear dresses and hung out with girls and liked to play some girl games more sometimes, my mom never assumed I was a transgender or something. And I'm glad she didn't, because it turned out, I'm not a transgender at all. I was just a open minded kid who didn't give a shit about what I wore or what I did. I just wore and did whatever the hell I wanted in that moment. If I wanted to play a princess I played a princess. If I wanted to play a pirate I played a pirate. I hear stories of parents who assume their sons are gender fluid just because they want to wear a princess dress sometimes. Kids are not thinking about that stuff and don't even know what it means. I have a sister and often played with her girl toys, because I was a kid and just felt like playing with it at those moments for no particular reason other than I could. So please parents. Don't find hidden meanings in your kids behaviour and let them figure their sexuality out themselves when they are adults. Kids don't know what they are doing when they are young and just live and experiment in the moment.

@@lutimstrickshots9253 Quite a few faulty assumptions here: 1. that there is a factual state of "being trans" as opposed to just feeling a certain way 2. that a child is capable of understanding what that means and contextualizing their feelings into a permanent sense of identity 3. that it isn't a parent's role to help children navigate and even correct their feelings 4. that there is some state of "legitimacy" to feeling a certain way 5. that blocking puberty is just a normal response to treating the feelings of a child, and not a controversial experiment that is less than 30 years old.

No, children shouldn't make those kinds of decisions. They are CHILDREN. As a father I am tasked with protecting my children from harm and to grow into a reasoned, successful adult. I have one exception with Matt's parenting style in the salmon example. I would try to dissuade my child and tell him why, but in the end I would let him order the salmon. He would have to eat it, or nothing else. No dessert, no taksey backsides. We would take the salmon home. He would have to have it for dinner the next night, again no dessert if he doesn't. This teaches him that decisions have consequences, and maybe he has to put weight on advice from knowledgeable others. If they fail early at little things, they will make better decisions on big things.

When my son was 3, a large fluffy orange cat wandered into our yard and adopted us. He thought the cat was a baby lion. They were together day and night. When they were playing, once in awhile my son would walk on all 4s and say “meow” to his cat. He even asked me to make him a cat costume that looked like his cat for Halloween. What my son didn’t do, was tell me that he is a cat, ask to use a litter box and demand to only talk in meows and purrs. And that’s because, we arnt crazy. He knew, and me and his father knew, that he was playing as 3 year olds do. I thank god every day that my kids are now 27 and 23, because the way things are these days, the school might have told him that he is actually a cat.

It wasn't because kids thought they were cats. It was for a place to go for in case there was a dangerous attack on the school and was put in there so kids would have a safer place to go. As a child of an L-mom, I feel like no one is asking how it affected us growing up. This is a conversation no one has ever really had. Young men like myself lived through absolute hell trying to feel confident about being masculine. They tried to push me away from everything I loved growing up by insulting and demeaning blue collar workers as a lower class, full of ignorant people who don't understand the real world. Talk about misconception.......

Your comment stopped me in my tracks, I’ve never seen this perspective. Thank you kindly for sharing it. I feel like children of lgbtq families are only asked their experience if they are going to say how amazing and absolutely normal it is. And it is normal as it’s their norm, but no one asks the narratives they have been taught as a result. May you have peace of mind, ease of heart, and immense love and success

When I was 4 years old I watched The Little Mermaid and decided I wanted to be a mermaid like Ariel. I'd practice holding my breath and used to bind my legs together by putting them both in a single pant leg so I'd 'look' like a mermaid. I continued with this desire to actually be a mermaid for years, trying to find real magic spells to turn me into one and being obsessed with only swimming like a mermaid (ie: dolphin kick). Obviously as I got older I soon learned that my dream was impossible, but I could still love the water and I could still learn to hold my breath for a long time so I could spend more time underwater, I even got an open water scuba diving license. But when I was 17 I found out about fabric mermaid tails and monofins that I could wear to mimic the appearance of a mermaid and live out my childhood dream and so I did. I loved and still do love getting to look and swim like an actual mermaid, but I also discovered the limitations of having your legs bound in the water like that, it's fun, but it's not something I'd actually be happy about having to deal with permanently. So while there isn't actually any "mermaid affirming care" for little kids, I imagine that if there were I would've jumped on board to become an actual mermaid and would've come to regret it cause, like all kids, I wouldn't have been able to think about the long term consequences. It may sound silly when you put it in the context of johnny the walrus or me wanting to be a mermaid, but this is exactly how it is for kids; they see something/someone that they think is cool and try to mimic it cause that's how they learn about the world. It's harmless, until it isn't.

I wasn't as extreme as that, but I felt the same. But I liked the little mermaid too, and would pretend to be her sometimes. Once my sister and her friend dressed me up like a girl. I showed my dad and he said, "very funny. Now go take that crap off." I'm so very thankful he did that.

Yo. EXACTLY. When I was little, I wanted to "marry" my father, and wanted to drink wine (grape juice in a fancy cup of course), among other things that I took as 'cool' and 'grown up' at that time. OBVIOUSLY, I don't want to marry my frikkin father, OBVIOUSLY wine is not technically great for anyone, ESPECIALLY children. I look back on that stuff and know it's part of the beautiful naivity of being young. You grow, you learn. If I had been catered to and told ALL my feelings should be validated, than I would have grown up thinking it's okay to be an incestuous wine-o until I turned like 6yrs old. After which I then wanted to 'marry' Luke Skywalker and use the force; which made me think "HOW could I have wanted to marry dad???".. Ya know what Im driving at?

This book is the ultimate trolling book. These people read books to kids at ‘drag story time’ at the library.. yet when the book doesn’t agree with their views they say ‘children don’t understand’.. a child also doesn’t understand the ramifications of taking life altering medication and mutilating their genitals.. so they admit that this isn’t okay for kids! 😂
@coreyoliphant3435
@coreyoliphant3435 2 жыл бұрын
It's not that, the books that are about drag or whatever are not saying that kids have to be like that. Or saying that it's weird and crazy to be different. The books are promoting acceptance. That if you feel different it is okay. Matt's book is saying that people are going to try and make you something you are not and if you refuse they will bully you pretty much. It tells kids that if they feel different it is not okay. We wouldn't be mad if there was a book about a straight cisgender kid doing whatever or even a book about a kid who thinks they might be trans and realizes that they're not. But when the book is about how being different or feeling different than others is wrong then we get mad.

I'm a fifth grade teacher who interacts with about fifty kids every day - what Sam isn't understanding is that with kids, if you stop what you're doing and start a conversation with them about every random "thing on the ground" they found, you all of a sudden have a whole group of kids who want to interrupt what you're doing to blurb out every little idea they can think of. Nothing out of the ordinary about his response "We don't need to worry about that right now." He's helping teach the little kid how to pay attention to one thing at a time, a skill many lack these days.

I finally get to explore my femininity with a real man who holds me high and wants me to actually be my best self. I wonder how many kids could also be helped if their parents simply asked "why" when they say they want to be the other gender. About a year ago, my friend's 5 year old son told her he wanted to be a girl. When she asked why, he said because he wanted long hair. She explained that he can have long hair as a boy if he wants, just say so. And that was the end of that. I wonder how many kids just want certain aspects of what they see from the other gender and just don't know how to articulate it.

My son said he wanted to a girl when he was four and I asked why. He didn't have any answer just said bc I wanna. So I confirmed that he wanted to be a paleontologist (really loved dinosaurs and yes I taught him that word). Well boys and girls can be that. Boys and girls can both be doctors, or garbage workers, or dancers. We can both swim and run and play. So what's the difference? Obviously as he gets older I will explain the role differences btw men and women but that's not really relevant to a four yo. He was happy with the answer and never brought it up again.

And some just start dressing their kid as the opposite sex and saying their kid wants to be the opposite sex when in reality the kid never said shit and it's just the mom who wants it. These kids will grow up never knowing what's what and end up being depressed as fuck. And when the parents put their kids on these hormones and different drugs it ruins their kids childhood and teen years when they are supposed to be coming in to their own. It will irreparably damage them and noone is to blame but the parents who let and/or force there kids in to this shit. It's disgusting and they should lose custody of their kid. It's child abuse pure and simple.

She is ridiculous. I'm part of the LGB community. Im Gay. So I don't really understand what these people are going through. The two things that always come to mind when I watch videos of trans people arguing and ranting is: Firstly, sex is objective and I DO believe SEX and GENDER are conflated. Sexuality is subjective, it's how I feel inside. Second thing is I've never heard a coherent argument that has persuaded me that if a child feels like the opposite sex, they, together with the parent and even someone with letters like MD, MBChB, FRCGP etc after their name should decide if the child's genitals remain intact. If when the child is of an age they can make rational decisions then fine. Remember the adult brain does not fully develop until around the age of 25. Also the fact "Medical Professional'' is thrown around so much is laughable. I've got some of those letters after my name and I certainly wouldn't feel confident that any child (at the young ages this is being done) met the diagnostic criteria for any surgical or hormonal intervention. This is also true of a lot of the staff I know who have left Child Psychiatry/Psychology departments and converted to different specialities.

@BoeingBonkers737
@BoeingBonkers737 9 ай бұрын
@@aryamanbhadauria1584 1. Pride month for me is very cringe worthy, I have been to my local one in Birmingham, UK and it is just Hypersexualised nonsense. Twinks walking about half naked and every kink imaginable on display (I have kinks but I don't go around showing it off). I think pride should remain though, but should be more about love and acceptance (not the love of leather and handcuffs). It was a difficult struggle for acceptance, and things have gone in a very positive direction. That should be celebrated. 2. No, I think the pride flag should remain but in its older format. I personally don't understand why who somebody is sexually attracted to is tied to what gender they believe they are (By gender I mean Sex (they are conflated)), however I do believe gender dysphoria exists and is a mental illness (very distressing one at that) and that in some cases surgical/hormonal intervention can help a person. In my opinion, extreme caution should be exercised with young children though. Look at the people who detransition. 3. No, I dont think it's unnecessary, I do think it is over represented though. 4. I was between 9-10 when I watched a video at school that explained a lot of things, I really don't remember it. I do remember it explained about reproduction and funnily enough explained circumcision. I feel at this age a child should be taught the basics by an educational institute: The majority of men and women are attracted to the opposite gender. Some men are attracted to each other, some women are attracted to each other and some are attracted to both men and women, and this is FINE. The rest should be up to the parent. It seems to me a lot of young parents in this country seem to think it is up to the school to teach their child everything. I think it is up to the parent to further elaborate and have a talk about "the birds and the bees''. These are just my thoughts and opinions. They are of course open to change should something persuade me. I enjoy debate on this, and many matters.

As a preschool teacher, I can confirm its perfectly ok to introduce larger vocabulary words to children and they are perfectly capable of using large vocabulary words appropriately, if taught consistently. Let’s continue educating our children. Let them see that girls can do all sorts of things and boys can do all sorts of things. They can be loving and respectful to all, if that’s how you raise and teach them. Let them be children. They are so small, they are not fully capable of decision making - not to mention a decision that will impact their FUTURE. Young children also do not have great perception of time, depending on the age - they cannot possibly start making decisions for their life. They start drawing a picture of a house and by the time they’re done they’ve completely changed their mind about what they’ve drawn. They are not yet developmentally able to stick to tasks and make decisions. Just raise them to be respectful and let them explore their world- that is the best thing we can do for such young children.

I don't remember growing up and having a teacher/person strongly try to influence me that though I was born a girl/female I can be "something else" of my own making the next day. No one "influenced" the heck out us that when you turn a certain you have the power to take medicine and have doctors mutilate your body to appease what your TEEN and, most of the time, stupid mind thinks it should be. The first time I experienced people like Samantha was when I was working in college and a trans woman told me they were "more woman than I was" because I was/am a virgin in my 20s and I have not "released the patriarchal grasp" that I should wait for marriage....
