YES! MAUDE is alive again and even better than before, sounds like the power really stretches through all of the gears now and it looks a bit more lively Marcus, well worth the cost I bet.

Thanks Gary! :) The gearbox came to a few quid but because I bought the parts beforehand and then had to wait a couple of months to pick the gbox up it meant i didn't have to spend all the money in one go. I think it was well worth it! :D

Thanks rs2klee! :) Iv got lots of ideas of what to do next with Maude but right now I want to focus on the mk1. I doubt iv lost any bhp with the new gearbox. Its still a type 9 at the end of the day. The longer ratio would technically make the car accelerate slower to a point. I reckon from 0-20mph its a bit slower but now I dont need to shift at 20mph and when I do shift I drop right into the powerband of 2nd gear whereas before I would need to rev 1st gear way too high for that to happen (thus losing time) . . . It will be interesting to see how the new gbox does on the quarter mile but with Maudes sump leak and her worn LSD plates that might not happen anytime soon. She still puts a smile on my face everyday tho.

The bearings are renowned for rattling , the cure is a grub screw in the side of the base/mount . Just drill and tap the base , no more rattling. Thanks for the content, I look forward to your exploits with maude and esther

Thanks for the advice! :) Iv heard of that trick. The shifter was very old and I thought it was time for a new one BUT spacing the spring with a washer worked a treat and it is a million times quieter now. :)

Thanks Michael. Defo worth fitting the longer first gear and whilst its apart do the laygear bearing mod to make the gearbox a lot stronger. :)

Marcus, love the bits as I have a mk2 Cortina I'm about to start as a project. I know you have the rx8 box conversion on your mk1 escort so wanted to know the cost of the "revamp" on the type 9 and ask if it is with changing my type 9 for the rx8 box or getting it sorted at HPE? Thanks! :) I'm so happy with the new gearbox! The ticking noise is the electric fuel pump in the boot. Much less annoying than the rattling quick shift was! :)

The gear shift seems mega smooth. Do you think you'll restore Maude to top spec like the Mk 1?

The gear shift is so much better! :) A couple of the syncros were changed during the rebuild. I doubt I will ever restore Maude properly but Ill do what's necessary to keep her roadworthy for as long as I can. She really needs her front end cut off to deal with some rust that has started to appear on the wing rails/inner wings. Ill get round to it eventually. :)

Thanks Jamie! :) Im probably going to keep the old type 9 as a spare. I got rid of a spare one years ago and then needed to buy another one to fit to Maude whilst I got this one re-built so I dont want to make that mistake again. It needs a full re-build anyway.
