perhaps the FINEST interpretation of the full orchestral version of the Requiem ive ever heard. SUBLIME!

I agree, a wonderful performance ! I prefer the version with small orchestra and organ, but maybe it is just because I am more accustomed with it. The orchestra here remains quite discrete, everything is very well balanced, really perfect and amazing !
@WouterTukker11 ай бұрын
Interesting that you should say this: also Maurice Duruflé himself preferred his (third and last) version with chamber orchestra and organ, otherwise it is exactly this version for large symphonic orchestra that he recorded himself for ERATO in the late 1960´s (reissued on CD by Erato or Virgin)

I agree with Mezzotenor. I collect Requiem Masses (have over 100) and this remains my favourite. This is a truly moving performance of it. It does one good to think of one's mortality every so often: and to have such music to accompany those thoughts may bring real comfort. Every bit as much as one's TRUST in the Father of our Lord Jesus, The Christ.
@keplergso83692 жыл бұрын
I agree. This Requiem is a mix of gregorian songs and modern arrangements, that organists know how to do, and this is an absolute masterpiece, one of my favourite piece of music, which brings me tears everytime I listen to it. I prefer the version with smaller orchestra and organ. I think that nothing can outperform the Bach Mass in b minor, but it is in another register, like the wonderful Pergolese Stabat Mater. Jacques, from France.
@Mark_Dyer12 жыл бұрын
@@keplergso8369 Merci pour cette réponse. Je pense que c'est l'élément Grégorien qui me plaît tant. Si nous nous aventurons dans des messes au-delà des requiems, alors je devrais en considérer plusieurs, en plus du Bach B-Minor.

The first time I heard this performed live was for the evening service on All Saints’ Sunday. To my slight embarrassment I couldn't stop crying. The music is beautiful beyond words. I am always amazed that those who perform pieces like this can maintain their composure all throughout, especially those in the choir. And I'm pleased to see that others here who've listened to this were similarly affected.

It never ceases to amaze me how many exceptionally talented composers, performers and orchestras there are in Poland. Even outstanding Progressive Rock bands that demonstrate both virtuosity in performance and quality songwriting. I am very familiar with this Requiem and the definitive performance is the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra and Chorus conducted by the great Robert Shaw whose performances of choral music is legendary. This performance is excellent and I think Pawel Kapula has done a remarkable job both in the performance and interpretation of the music considering his age and experience. I will definitely follow his career. Hopefully he will secure a recording contract and I will not hesitate to buy his recordings. It would have been nice to have this performance on CD. It is certainly worthy of documenting the performance.

Oh, my goodness... This left me in tears. Where do I begin? Not since Dutoit and the NHK have I heard a video concert performance of this piece so seamlessly and gracefully interpreted. The youthful Maestro (who in the US would have to show proof of age to buy a beer) already has a mature mastery of ensemble and the good taste not to over-theatricalize this rich but delicate score. The orchestra is clearly blessed with technique and experience, and it will be a while before I hear a better organist or better principal players on horn or cello. The soloists are well-chosen, and I'm grateful to the choir director for training this medium-sized group to shape the plainchant (or chant-inspired) melodies in such a refined and unanimous manner. Permit me to repeat a joke from my years singing plainchant at High Mass: The only thing harder for a choir than singing in perfect harmony is singing in perfect unison. God bless you all!
@yordankaacosta28495 жыл бұрын
Gos bless you. Your review is so true, I couldn't agree more. Thank you for your truthful words. Unison is the most difficult and beautiful to achieve in a choir.

I am looking forward to one recording in which soloists for a change will NOT breathe after every third note instead of singing a phrase in one breath, as well as singing "DominE" (liturgical text) instead of "DominO" (certain game with black-white rectangular pieces): Gregorian plainchant is NOT about soloist glamour à la "Casta Diva" BUT about the meaning of a certain religious text! Otherwise, respect for conductor, choir, organist and orchestra, in particular for the 1st horn-player (the one with the black hair-band): well done!
