A third of the population of Mauritania lives, directly or indirectly, from artisanal fisheries. Bamba Fall, a unionist fisherman, invites us into the hectic activity of the port of Nouakchott: the tragic stories in the sea of old fishermen, the hard work of fishing gear from blacksmithing, imaginatively recycled materials, the sale of fish by bold women, the education of children by the hand of Imam of the mosque... A world in which the dangerous art of fishing exists thanks to the solidarity of those who share it.

Well done documentary! Thank you so much for beautifully capturing the life struggles of these brave men, women and children. I am from Mauritania and the situation of these people is a sad reality, but we need to acknowledge it instead of just ignoring it or even worse denying it.

A refreshing authentic production. My first learning of these People and the area. Although the video is somewhat dated, guessing it hasn't changed "?" It begs for some balancing, but that would also require some teaching of the Eg9 Mind vs Higher Mind, so as to foster improvements and financial growth, w/o the achievers following in the Ego Traits of the existing Social Caste System. May they find a positive flow that offers state and happy today's and tomorrows. ❤❤❤ ? Are there no Maritime Standards to protect the Ocean, Fish, and Fishermen?

Have really enjoyed the New Atlantis documentaries, particularly the straightforward narration as well as their voices. The Bamba Fall are very inspiring in their strength and fortitude. Can some please provide the name of the song/music at 15:57? It's deeply moving. Sounds more Zulu-inspired, although the strings sound more to me like much of the music of N. Africa. But what do I know? Thank you again.

I watched the video and enjoyed it. I do not know any facts or any thing about this country. Every country has problems, and many people lie"all over the world"I just want the world to harmonize with each other, I also know we do not live, or ever will in a perfect way, but I feel its really bad people on here are being rather nasty to each other. There is enough food and water in the world for every one, and it hurts me so many have to survive on so little.I am not religious, and my Gran brought me up to be good and kind to all people, especially those less fortunate than myself.I respect this video, and have learned a lot.. thank you for posting this video. If I had my own way, all the money spent on luxuries we do not need, would be building up good relations with all our brothers and sisters of the world so every one has water, a decent life, and the practice of peace a strict thing!

Fascinating to observe how many people on this planet have to struggle to make ends meet.... These types of docus are required watching for those who tend to complain a lot. Especially those who are so easily led by the nose by Mussolini type demagogues....Western politicians sure deserve their fair share of ridicule , but compared to the struggle many in less industrialised nations have to go through , some perspective wouldn't be out of place .

This is probably where that south East Asian maternal haplogroup came from: Hindu mythology points out that the Sanskrit writings describe the extended domains of the ancient Cushite empire. In these books are relations about early Egyptian history. It mentioned one of the emigrations going out from the Upper Nile as having peopled India. The Puranas divided the world into seven dwipas or divisions. Sancha Dwipa was Africa in general. Cusha Dwipa was the land of Cush, India and the Mediterranean. These books speak place to another with perfect security to themselves and their merchandise.

It's just such a screaming poverty there.. my heart aching just to watch all that.. It's actually even hard to believe that nowadays, in the 21st century, with all those technologies, progress, zillions in banks and shit just a few thousand miles away people live the way this folks do: from hand to mouth. Or even worse: from hand to a dozen of mouths! Cause families are big. What a discriminated fucked up world we live in! I'm embarrassed we live like fucking kings here, in the West, driving our expensive cars and buying expensive meals in the restaurants, and just keep on whining about every little thing! This is crap. It shouldn't be like this.

I think they used the statistics from 1907 instead of 2007 in this doc. It's a lovely glimpse into honest people's lives, but I'm sure more than 3% of women wait to marry until adulthood. Usually women's roles are very prominent in African culture, if not in modern African politics.

"African" is very imprecise. There are different people and cultures in this vast continent. Looking at this documentary I see 3 to 4 different types of dark-skinned Africans. Maybe more. But they're all "Sahel" types of Africans. They're coastal, however. These folks need some power. They're good folks but need power, protection, and less religion, in my opinion. Less "will of God" and more "we'll change our lives because we have the will and power to do so."

Slavery and racism are very much a reality of Mauritania, I don't you if you are black or white, or sure I say Bidan? but I know a little be about your country and little be of Hassaniya, does Bidan ring any bell? Bidan means White, owner of camels and slaves. You will never change your country by ignoring or denying what need to be changed, Allah maak oujuti, Allah maak chaab Mauritania.

So basically the Arab elite are causing the problems for these fishermen. Not surprised as the elite in every country cause problems for the normal working people. Aside from that I have always been fascinated with countries in the Sahel region, such as Mauritania. Hopefully things would get better for these people and many others across the world who are struggling.

Good efforts, but I'm afriad the picture is not complete. You see in a rainbow nation like Mauritania, you can't rely on one sided narrative. You should have looked from different angles. Besides, a lot of the facts provided are simply false, inaccurate, or at the best old.

This video is very deceptive and contradictory which is not surprising given who filmed and edited it. First, it says that the men do the fishing while the women run the business of selling the fish, then it says the women become "docile wives"! How can you be a docile wife and run the families business at the same time? The lady running the dried fish business didn't seem "docile" to me! She was telling the men what to do! Second, they say that women have to "suffer" through arranged marriages. It would be logical to assume the men also have no choice in who they marry so why focus on just women? Racists/White Supremacists are great at the art of "Divide and Conquer" by making it seem as though they are helping "liberate" Non-White people and usually "liberating" the women from men. If you can get them fighting each other, you can come in and take their $hit very easily as the film shows. If you watch enough of these documentaries, you'll see this constant pattern of pitting women against men as if White Supremacist society is void of so called "patriarchy". They'll tell you that Africans mutilate the genitals of girls while they "circumcise" every male baby born! Hypocrisy is their specialty! "if you do not understand White Supremacy (Racism) - what it is and how it works - everything else you understand will only confuse you." Neely Fuller, Jr. - The United Independent Code/System/Concept
