Sunny is a trans person living in Pakistan. She begs in order to survive. Others get by as sex workers or dancers. As an expert for transgender issues at the Human Rights Commission of Pakistan, Reem Sharif found a way to support her community.
Trans people in Pakistan are frequently cast out by their families and live in poverty. They can find safe spaces and a new family in special centers. Here, they do not have to hide and discover that they are not alone in their fight for survival and recognition in Pakistan’s conservative society.
Only around 10 thousand people of Pakistan’s population of 220 million are officially counted as members of the “third gender,” yet it’s estimated that the true figure may be as high as 300 thousand.

@@pimpinaintdeadho That's easier said than done. Our passport rate is abysmal and we are one of the most despised country in the world. Not easy to get away. I pity them because there's no equal treatment for people like them. I am very lucky as in my country, the Philippines 🇵🇭, we are treated equally. Transgenders have rights and discrimination is not tolerated. In our office, we have a lot of Transgenders and we excel in every field. I just hope that all people would be open minded and treat every human being normally. If this happens, what a wonderful world we would have. ❤️ ❤❤

@@shahrukhkhan8307 I'm not sure it's a transgender counting olympic competition, but I take your point. That said, Trans people have been in North America with the Native Americans since they walked across the land bridge from Siberia thousands of years ago. You can still see them today (the Two Spirit people). That said, sure, I have no doubt that trans people have been in Pakistan longer since it was settled far earlier in human development. There are lots of trans people in both countries and it's unfortunate that many people in the west do not realize this. How many trans people per capita would you estimate in Pakistan? 1 in 200? 1 in 400? I realize there probably isn't any actual census or survey data on this.

I am deeply hurt by the accusations and discrimination against people of different cultures, races, and religions in our society. The root cause of this problem is the lack of education and awareness about diversity and inclusion. It's essential that we all take responsibility for educating ourselves and improving our understanding of other cultures. However, the question remains, how can we achieve this? We need collective action as a society to address this issue, rather than just relying on individual efforts. Unfortunately, even some of the groups that identify as 'we' face discrimination, making it even more challenging to achieve true equality and respect for all

Im a Pakistani born and raised guy. This documentary is both sad and equally positive, in that coming across transgender people in day to day life is a norm for most urban Pakistanis, as generally the community is openly welcomed at weddings and equally found on streets shopping and getting on with life. Attitudes will surely change with normalisation of the community taking up more responsible and professional roles. There is now likes of Dr Meerub and others who are well educated, articulate professionals braving their way into spheres once considered untouchable for the rest of the transgender or even LGBTQ community. Eventually, we all need to love and respect other human beings for just that fact, regardless of their gender or personal life choices.

Parents are more tolerant for trans 'daughters' and the society treats cross dressing women better so they are able to express themselves without being disowned and telling the world they are trans they can just cut their hair short and cross dress and live their life as another Pakistani would.
