I heard this piece for the first time in the 70s played by puertorican guitarist Leonardo Egurbida on a public government TV and felt in love with the classical guitar since then.. This is a forgotten piece by Giuliani that is a joy to play and also to listen being played by such young virtuoso with perfect "portamento", tonality and phrasing.

I really like how she plays. It is full of personnality. It is rather rare among the guitarists' community. A lot of excellent professionals make me yawn despite their vituosity. Philippe De France.

Nice, i'm only just beginning to start appreciating julliano. What an era that must have been. Him, Ferando Sor and Luigi Legniani (and many more i presume) all lived around the same period.

of course this is a good song, I play it very differently because I can't play that fast but I can observe the note values,,, which can be argued against because of the difficulty but when I sit in my room and play for myself, I can't imagine even one song without observing the note values, with the exception of some arrangements of these same songs that are clearly intended for the guitarist who has no intention of observing the note values and merely using the values as a way of determining the start of the note, and merely ending them whenever the hand must leave that note. I personally must argue this song is SO MUCH BETTER if you slow it down a bit and observe the note values. In fact, it goes from a 3rd class exercise to a 1st class performance piece, but again,, that's just my opinion.
@joeballog65664 жыл бұрын
Well, I don't know about "note values" - I was a self-taught classical guitarist years ago until injury put an end to my playing - but I never paid any attention whatever to note values, to me the most important things are attack and phrasing - and I almost never hear a classical musician get the phrasing right. But I do agree that this piece would arguably be better played a little more slowly - you can't extract all the juice out of a piece if you play too fast, and this is particularly true of the guitar IMO - go too fast and the music just ends up sounding pretty instead of soulful - but each to their own I guess. I nonetheless enjoyed the interpretation of this piece, even though I agree a slower tempo might have improved it.
@tsmspace4 жыл бұрын
@@joeballog6566 playing the note values is definitely unusual. I think my inspiration to do so comes from a bunch of popular conversations from the nintendo era, where people played nintendo music on guitar, but I DO think that people throughout history have certainly tried it... all music written by sor appears to be designed for it. ,,, but,, playing the note values is a very rewarding experience,,, and personally I feel it completely changes the songs. There is just a lot more song if the notes don't simply decay. when the notes just ring until convenient for the guitarrist to move their finger to the next note, all of the songs must play faster, and many many many of the songs you can find in books can just be ignored,,, but if you observe the note values, there is suddenly a lot more music that is now different, and it makes the history of guitar music seem to have much greater depth. It's true, you can see many songs where the note values appear to just make it easier to show the start of notes,,, but there are a lot of songs where the note values don't help this, but are still there. I would argue there are plenty of "sustain pedal" songs, but that there are also stop note songs,,, and that there are even eras of each,,, with giuliani and sor being stop note songs mostly, and carulli having both.
