Wow tried the new Maurten CAF100 today on my 13.18 mile night run. Works great was easy on my digestion. The one problem is it’s 9:20pm and I’m wide awake 😂 and I have to be up at 5am. Going to try it on my 20 mile run Friday along with my normal Maurten gel/drink mix routine.

@@kofuzi So just getting back to this CAF 100. I had a 20 miler planned yesterday but I also had signed up for a half marathon as well. So I ran a 7 mile warmup prior and finished it just before the start of the Half Marathon. My Goal was to really just run it around my full marthon pace. I opened up with a regular Maurten gel around 3.5 miles into my Warmup. Then around mile 5 of my Half (12 Miles In) I tried my first CAF 100. I can attest that either my mental game really made me think it was a difference maker, or it really was the CAF 100. I literally just continued to feel great. So much that the longer I ran the better I felt, and suddenly started running my half marathon paces with what seemed like moderate effort. I capped it off around the mile 9-10 with the last regular Maurten Gel. So from my limited expereince, I can say that I definitely felt a difference and will probably alternate with them during my Marathon. Sorry for the long Reply. Congrats on the Chicago Half!! You killed it. Can't wait to see the race breakdown video soon. :)

I tried one of these for the first time last Friday. I’ve never drunk tea or coffee, and don’t eat much chocolate. I had horrendous stomach cramps for 5 hours! I also went to bed at 11pm and didn’t fall asleep till 2am. 😮 One for the coffee drinkers I think.

Great information, thank you ! At the end of my long runs, and afterwards, I seem to always have an electrolyte imbalance. I’ve been trying the “Salt Sticks- FASTCHEWS” for the additional salt. They’re about the same size as Rolaids/Tums, and come in small packets, so very easy to carry.
@kofuzi5 жыл бұрын
i might have to investigate further. i bought pills, but i was told that i had to carry them in a ziplock bag to as to avoid getting them wet or they would start foaming. i think for a product like salt, the delivery method makes or breaks it. because at the end of the day, i can just eat 50 cents worth of pretzels on the course (which I did last year).
@dewrunning5 жыл бұрын
@@kofuzi The "Fastchews" come in a 60ct. bottle (which you would not want to carry or swallow while running), small 10ct. "packets" (which are really flat), and small 10ct. rolls. I tried carrying the roll, but found peeling away the outer paper and foil rather cumbersome while running much like Rolaids/Tums. I also tried the packets, and took several packets on a long run, as I new the last remaining few in each packet may get wet with sweat and would dissolve . But they didn't seem to get wet, so all was good. The real benefit of the packets is that they'll fit/slide in, most anywhere. Hope this helps ......... Best of luck !!!

Maurten gels are great, easier on the digestive system than probably everything else out there. They are indeed expensive but I don't need more than one (if any) during long runs so I don't feel it like other people. That 100mg of caffeine sound like a lot though. Wouldn't like to get the jitters during the last 15 km of a marathon.

i think it might depend on what else you have in your system. i took them again on another run where i had a bit more in my belly at the time of ingestion, and it didn't quite get the jolt

Look into making your own gels and putting them in a soft flask. Buy stuff like cluster dextrin, sea salt and caffeine powder and just make your own custom gels with the best ingredients for less money per serving.

Thanks for the gel review. Just bought Cliff after using GU in anticipation of the Indy Marathon. Question: I “paused” my run training for the 26.2 a few days ago due to some hip pain and subsequent soreness possibly due to increased miles and some poor running mechanics due to being tired and upping my training miles. If my one sore hip feels pretty much better should I resume training and long runs or am I “toast” for Indy? Just seeking non-doctor feedback...
@kofuzi5 жыл бұрын
my non-doctor feedback would be to consult a medical professional. that being said, if it's increased mileage that's causing it, i'd try to pull back on the mileage and hit the bike or other non-impact aerobic activity to keep that aerobic load high.
