At last a simple no-nonsense step-by-stap instructive video about a problem more people than you would imagine, encounter when taking their weapon apart without (like your truly) first checking the correct sequence and correct position of the various parts. Great video! Thanks a lot Dan!

Thank YOU! Been working trying to 'correct' my 'mistakes' for 24 hours! No vice? Vice Grips", and pull! Thank you!!!! The person I got my "Customized" Mauser from never told me anything about it and ALL the springs in the bolt are extra strong! Why would that be? Give yourself a couple of POB's!!! (pat-on-back)

Thank you for the kind words, I am glad my vids helped you and others out. Parts are cheap here and some times by chance you come across a good action to buit upon. After-market parts manufactures here in the US have all kids of cool stuff, stocks, barrels, triggers, safites, scope bases. Mausers are fun to build and as of now I have presented 2 rifles to my nieces as birthday gifts. Why not pass on the shooting sports to the next generation.

VERY HELPFUL!! Like the others wrote below you are a true hero!!! While examining a Mauser custom rifle and its bolt yesterday at a local gun store, my friend twisted the bolt and caused it to rotate so that the cocking piece fell into that recess. End result was we spent a solid 30 minutes standing at the gun store counter unsuccessfully trying to figure out how to fix the bolt. It was embarrassing as hell to have to tell the gun store what we had done.

Thank you so much for making this video! The first time I removed the bolt from my mauser I made the mistake of not turning the safety to the on position and thus I only got the cocking piece partially unscrewed, as a result I was not able to put my bolt back in the rifle properly when I realized the mistake I had made and tried to remedy it, I thought I might be screwed but fortunately I found you're video which allowed me to easily fix this mistake! I don't know what I would have done without it! Thanks again!

This can be done without using a vice. It can be rotated back into position just by using your hands. It'll take some force, but it will turn without worrying about marring the metal with a vice.

@ktgunsmith57518 жыл бұрын
This is very helpful. My only concern with your second method is you are applying pressure on the cocking piece where the sear engages. If you mar this surface you could affect the trigger pull. Personally I would stick with your first method.
@tvguy26984 жыл бұрын
thank you for this, but instead of the vice or table i used the mauser barrel to do so. thank you again for this otherwise i would have never been able to fix it!
@codeavatar56 жыл бұрын
I don't know if it is just my rifle. But if I lock the bolt closed like this, all I have to do is grab the rear of the bolt, and with a little force, I can twist the cocking peace up the ramp to its cocked position by hand.

I would not recommend pushing down on what you call the cocking piece, especially metal on metal. That is where the sear holds the firing pin back until you pull the trigger. That part is part of your sear and if you were to change the angle of that you could end up with a dangerous gun or a gun that requires too much force to pull the trigger.
@1337fraggzb00N5 жыл бұрын
The trigger mechanism of the K98k is kind of crappy anyway, so a little damage might not really matter at all, but you are right. When that mistake happens, it might be more useful to use hard plastic instead of a vice.

woo hoo metal god 7 is back shooting again. glad your back on track and keep shooting. i just got back from shooting my 7mm WSM i built on a 98 mauser. :o)

You can also take two towels, grab each end of the bolt and with some pressure just twist the bolt and re-cock it back into place. That's just another way of fixing it. Happened to me as well when I was cleaning my Mauser.
