Thank you so much for this. Really made the process a lot easier when taking apart my 1904 Gustafs. One tip: if the barrel bands don't want to move, you can place a piece of rifle brass at a 45 degree angle to the retaining spring and hammer on it with wood (to avoid damage if you miss). This helped get my bands off as they were really stuck.

Great vid. I bought one in the late 80's for about 40 dollars. Let it languish in my shop getting surface rust and gunky. Took an interest in Mausers after getting a K98, "brought back". Looked the Swedish version over last week and saw the bolt matches the serial numbers. Time to tear it down and give it a little more love.

I just bought a Husquvarna Mauser 98. The barrel looks like new. It is like a mirror and the lands and groves are clean and crisp it has all matching #s except for the stock. Your Video here helped me tremendously, thank you. Can't wait to take it out to the range. Also picked up a Carl Gustafs Stads M38 this too is very clean got them both for 230$ each.

Thank you for the informative video, Daniel. I just purchased a Swedish Mauser M1896, dated 1917 Carl Gustafs, and began disassembly. I was having a devil of a time depressing the barrel band springs to remove the bands. Several references recommend wood blocks, clamps, hammers, etc. Nothing seemed to work. I tried your procedure with a brass wedge and it worked! Thanks from Wisconsin, USA.

Daniel Lea I love the old Mauser style rifles. As an American, the closest thing I can get relatively cheaply are 1903 Springfield(which are essentially an American knock off Mauser), but I love it. How much are Mausers in Germany?
@99pppo
@99pppo 7 жыл бұрын
I paid about the equivalent of 300 US$ for it. It always depends on the condition of course. More rare pieces that have matching numbers and are in pristine condition can go up to 600 - 1200 $. Like my gunsmith had an old Gewehr 98 in 8x57 IS that had all Persian markings on it and that one was quite pricy.

Yes currently there still are if they don't get banned by the EU. We have several own producers of ARs like Schmeisser, Oberland Arms and Hera Arms, Heanel, etc. Also H&K and Sig Sauer are producing civilian ARs and piston ARs. I am currently in the process of getting a Windham Weaponry SCR.

WOW THAT WAS THE BEST NO B.S. FIREARMS VIDEO IVE SEEN IN A LONG LONGTIME! Thank you I picked up everything I needed to know to get a historic Mauser working again. It’s a D-Day bring home passed down in the family. Gun just had some hard grease and Omaha beach sand in the action. The previous owner was captured by family friends Great grandfather on D-Day from Hitler Youth soldier, (viewed official bring home forms which list location and unit weapon was captured from, provenance is excellent!) Our Youth did great history and his weapon great favor by over lubing the weapon with what must have been axel grease! The marksshow atleast two visitsback to Factory or depot for changes. Weapon includes complete field stripping tools, spare firing pin and a couple of magazines, onemauser theother two not identified as of yet. Had to replace second barrel ban was missing to history. Bore was nice, not worn but we only use light loads to preserve the gun, (family demands to preserve Grampa Nazi Gun!). Anyway this video was all I needed to feel comfortable stripping the gun. Only a couple suggestions, I use a hard plastic barrel band depression tool to help preserve my Oh shits. Also I prefer armorers block to secure the under side of the action when manipulating pins and screws. Lastly I user Mauser specific sized turn screws are securely set the action screws. Are you saying that necessary but makes me feel better when dealing with irreplaceable piece of history. Again thank you so very much for making a wonderful video.

Thank you for your video. I happen to have a straight Pull M96 American 30.06. I can see by your video the Swedish model lends itself to good disassembly BUT the M96 American. in the book tells me not to take out the bolt. I am guessing there are some VERY tricky way to remove the bolt for cleaning...OR does it need to be cleaned? What say You in the cleaning process of this M96 American Mauser.

When I put the spring back on the floor plate catch and put it all back together for some reason the floor plate catch keeps falling out, leaving the spring in the hole. I put the pin in ams it still happens. Why do you think this is happening? It didn't happen before I disassembled it, but there was a lot of cosmoline on the spring and catch when I removed it. Great video, thanks for a y help/advice you may have.

Marvelous piece of knowledge! Can you tell me if there's any major differences between this M96 and the M1894 Brazilian Mauser in the assembly/disassembly process?
@99pppo
@99pppo 7 жыл бұрын
I have never handeled an M1894 Brazilian Mauser so I can't really say for sure but usually most Mauser rifles have a pretty indentical manual of arms. You will have to see if it is a cock on close or cock on open bolt design. The disassembly of the bolt might be a bit different. But I don't want to give you unqualified advice because as I said I never handle one of these.

Awesome, thanks a lot! I just got a Swedish Mauser, and a sporterized one from I think Argentina. The Swedish bolt is cock on close, but the same wood, and the bolt on the argentine is a cock on close, so this helped with both. Thanks again!

You rotate the extractor into the correct position and then you push the extractor claw from the back. It will slide off of the front over the bolt face.

You would never take a rifle apart this far in the field. That's what they did in the armories. To service it in the field you really only need to take out the bolt and clean everything and put a little bit of oil on it.

Yeah I tend to leave the little bits alone and just clean out all the garbage and dirt with brake cleaner. Never have had any issues. I use acetone on the stock to clean up...brake cleaner to blow out hard to reach areas and around springs I don’t want to deal with and CLP when I put it all back together.
