I can here to see the cussing and wrestling part, especially the removal, disassembly, cleaning, lubricating, and reassembly of the bolt. I’ll check your other videos for that.

Take your time. Don’t force it. No need for cussing.

Thanks for the video. I think you said "cleaned up" 78 times and "this is not a restoration" 37 times😂

How many times did you watch the video?

How tight should the cross bolt lug (recoil lug) be? The one behind the front action screw. I recently got the proper tool to tighten the recoil lug and noticed it had not been tightened all the way.

If you have a torque driver, go to 30 inch pounds.

Thank you very much. I figure while my action is apart I will put in a new trigger spring.

I have a GEW 98 that I'm giving some love to. The forward capture screw in the trigger group is rusted in place. Any recommendations on penetrating fluids to make it loosen?
@FlyingKSports9 ай бұрын
I’ve been using Kroil. Let it sit and penetrate for a day or two. You can also try using a propane torch with a pencil tip to heat the area around the screw. Cut up a soda can to make a heat shield to protect the stock.

@FlyingKSports awesome! Thanks so much! While watching the video, I saw the can of Kroil on your bench. Headed out now to get some. I can't wait to take my "clean 98" to the range 👍

The Kroil worked like magic! Thanks again. I also found some mud or foreign soil between the stock and barrel 😁

Did you use 4 0t stell wool on the stock to clean it while applying BLO
@FlyingKSports Жыл бұрын
Yes I did. 0000 steel wool does a great job of cleaning without removing any material.

My grandfather left me quite a few Mauser rifles. I don't think I can afford your services, do you have an recomendations I can do to help preserve/maintain them. I've been keeping them in a safe with a dehumidifier and wiped them down with a silicone rag. There was some mild rust that formed from being in storage previously. Thanks

Apply gun oil to a pad of 0000 steel wool. Then rub down any areas where rust had formed. The soft 0000steel wool will not harm the bluing and will remove any rust. After that, just keep those great old rifles cleaned and oiled.

Excellent. Any tips on getting in to those tiny cracks/crevices? Or is a full disassembly required/recommended. Thanks@@FlyingKSports

Could be a broken extractor holding things up.
@kfelix29343 ай бұрын
Most likely the extractor collar. I did something stupid a few weeks ago while diseembly of my mauser bolts that I'm sending in for microslick aka as black ice. I inserted the bolt back with no extractor install and it got caught half way in and out, what happen the extractor collar is compressed when it has the extractor on the edges, but if the extractor is remove, the coller expands out blocking the quick exit from the receiver. If your bolt is intact and you can't get it out, you might need to shim the side of extractor collar to push the collar back in groove. Worst case you might have to take it to a gunsmith. I did like 20 different tings and methods and finally got my bolt out FWIW. But it was not easy. I bought all new collars for what it's worth and some spares.
