When you install a bed cover on your Maverick, there are some places that are harder to seal from water. I just wanted to share how to make your cover as water tight as possible. Hope it's helpful!

@Todd Truck Life I just wanted to say thanks for making this video to help out us Mav owners! Very helpful. Whatever solution you might come up with for the bulkhead drain, I'd be interested. Thanks

Thanks for the video so I have the factory roll up hard cover and there's quite a decent gap between the tailgate door and the cover when it's closed so I'm tired of opening up my tailgate and having some of my delivery boxes wet I decided finally today to go to Lowe's and I picked up some 1-in heavy duty weather strip molding and some super glue and took my time and added it to the tailgate top of the door and to the very far rear corners of the truck bed it seems to be working okay but it's not completely water sealed but a lot better than what it was for about 10 bucks Thanks again hope this help somebody

Ready to see what, if any, solution you came up with for a drain tube. I have an X4S on the way and am curious.

I don't have anything yet, but make sure to watch my X4S video for fixing the gap at the tailgate. :)

I'm getting ready to install a cover. It seems it will be difficult to keep water out, so the next best thing is to direct the water. You eluded to trying to do just that. Me? I'll just let the water flow down the sides and out the factory weep holes. My cargo won't really be up against the sides of the bed. More so in the middle. For the most part I think my cargo will stay dry.

Ford needs to fix this. Put some drain holes up front or something.

The water is flooding in at the corner. I hope you design and 3d print a “trap” that could be attached the corner and tubed via a Y connector to the drain line. This is the only solution as the weatherstripping, window and side curved plastic cap create a swimming pool of water.

Is that a drain hole at 2:24? Installing a tonneau cover and trying to figure out if I can run drain line there.

Yes, it's a drain hole. What tonneau are you installing?

@@ToddsTruckLife I had a Retrax Pro MX on my old F150 which had easy drain holes. I have a Ford Maverick now and from what I’ve seen, the Retrax Pro MX goes beneath those preexisting holes on the side…and the drain tube is too thick to fit in the bottom corner drains. I’m considering the Roll N Lock as it seems to give me more access to the Maverick bed and I can easily run the drains to those same holes you showed at 2:24 on both sides. What rolling cover would you recommend for the Maverick?
@ToddsTruckLife
@ToddsTruckLife 10 ай бұрын
@N.I.C.K. Roll n Lock does have a smaller canister and you can use the drain hole you saw earlier. The Retrax canister is too low for that drain hole. I have a Revlover X4S which is a hard roll up cover. It doesn't have a canister, so I don't lose any bed space. It also works with my Elevate Rack. The right cover for you is a personal decision, but that's what I went with. Hope that's helpful!

Link to the seal you used on the side rails?
@ToddsTruckLife
@ToddsTruckLife 10 ай бұрын
That seal was left over from what I got with the tonneau cover. I eventually removed it and put black silicone there. That works a lot better, and it's easier to get.

The seal I used for the bulkhead and the bed cap gap is from a Revlover X4S kit, so if you're getting one of those, you're golden. If you're getting something else, many covers come with a bulkhead seal. The seal I used for the bed cap seam just happened to fit, otherwise, I would have used silicone there.

@@ToddsTruckLife Gotcha. Like silicone caulk or sealant? Any particular recommendations? I'd want something that can peel off relatively easily down the road if necessary
@ToddsTruckLife
@ToddsTruckLife 2 жыл бұрын
@@brandonjones3715 Black RTV works well for applications like that. I use a quick detailer spray for our trucks, and if I don't want something to stick permanently, I'll wipe the surface with the spray first, that way it peals off easier later. If you do that with the bed cap seam before leveling it off with RTV, the clamping pressure from your tonneau will hold it in place, and it will come off with less work if you decide to remove it later. Did I explain that well enough? It kinda like making a "temporarily permanent" seal.
