I recently purchased a 2007 Honda Pilot with 78K miles on it, purchase inspection indicated nothing majorly wrong with vehicle. 3 weeks after purchase, engine light turns on. Miss fires codes in all 6 cylinders. I changed the Spark plugs for NGK and old Spark plugs didn't indicate oil leak issues, which is a good sign. Engine light went away for a week, but came back with Miss fires in all 6 cylinders again. The engine light sorta flashed initially and stayed on. Before I spend money on new coils, I'm a try changing the springs as you did. I called O'Reilly Auto Parts and they have a kit $36 or you can buy single springs and boot for little over $6. I'm doing this over the weekend and will report back. Thanks for making this Video! 👍

it worked?
@marioserrano57963 жыл бұрын
@@robertcuevas7372, After writing the conment above I figured to just clean the old metal springs in the coils rather than spending $ on something that may not work. During the cleaning process I had to remove/detach the Springs from the coils and put them back in, but the Spring were pretty much loose/No longer attached to the coil. The process took about 2-2.5 hrs. The Pilot started no problem, the engine light was off for like 5 minutes, but then it flashed on/off and it stayed ON (SOB). I ended up buying all 6 new coils and replacing them, and the engine light did turn off and stayed off for about 2 weeks, but came back on. It would stay on for a number of days and then it would go away on its own (The Ghost engine light syndrome others speak off). My Pilot is at 83K miles, so I ended up getting a valves adjustment at a shop and that took care of the problem. Note: The shop would have changed the sparkplugs and Coils as part of the recommended valve adjustment. Thus, I saved on labor costs by doing those my self and deciding the quality parts to use. I hope this helps.

This is the best advice in the comments. The intake snorkel (rubber accordion section between air filter box and throttle body) are notorious for developing cracks after it loses its pliability. That will cause a massive vacuum leak and a misfire on all cylinders. Think about it…what is the likelihood that all 6 springs on the coil packs simultaneously went bad? Not likely. A vacuum leak, however, will cause all cylinders to simultaneously misfire. Check for vacuum leaks first before doing all the coil pack springs.

So.... a silly question...and I apologize if it has already been asked. Instead of buying new springs, why not soak the old ones in vinegar? It should clean all the corrosion. I get that you should also change the boot. But this would allow you to either isolate the issue or continue to look. And you can decide to change them afterward. Now to be clear, you did a great video and really helped to identify a problem spot, so please do not take my question in a negative way.

You can also turn your car on and pull the connector on each coil pack and if the the car starts to idle worse soon as you unplug the connector then plug it back in and move to next coil and eventually you’ll unconnect one of the coil packs connectors and the vehicle will remain the same and that’s your bad coil pack that needs replaced
@myusrn6 күн бұрын
So a bad ignition coil can just be the coil on plug insulator, i.e. contact spring and rubber boot? Would you expect these to be present as well in 2015 lexus rx350 ignition coils? Seems like if you've determined a bad ignition coil, by swapping one for cylinder not throwing code with one that is, you'd do this inexpensive repair test before stepping into buying completely new ignition coils right?
