As a lifelong Mavs fan, we had Dirk overshadowed by Duncan. And that title was so sweet, bc it felt like Dirk may have missed his chance in 06 and would never get another. This was particularly contentious because his mom had basically raised him, but his dad had recently got back into the picture and I've heard speculation that the lawsuit had a lot to do with his mom and dad fighting with each other through him. So when he said he didn't like playing basketball at that moment he was talking more about what basketball brings in his world.
