My parents had this record before I was born (in 1939) and I loved it - haven't heard it for forty years! Thanks a million. I 'm old enough to remember a lot of people who spoke like that.

Max Bacon is a fantastic find. A master of malapropism and the quickfire gag. The sound reproduction is pretty good too. I note that he pronounces 'beigel' correctly unlike the current trend. Keep on digging up these gems please.

He was a great act, and being a drummer he gets each verse perfectly on beat. These tracks have a wonderful rhythm to them, particularly Gershwin Lackshan-Soup Jack, and here I Must See Annie Tonight swings wonderfully too.

I think his gags and act are still fresh, where many of the acts of this time are rather dated and purely of interest for nostalgia rather than laughs, but Maxie hass a few original lines that I've heard as late as forty years later pinched by Benny Hill and even a Python line from Always Look on the Bright Side of Life in The Life of Brian. You've got the malapropisms that would be the mainstay of the likes of Hylda Baker. But I guess no artist pleases all the people all the time! :)

I wish his drumming was as well documented as his comedy :(

Well i'm jealous of you two - I have not taken to Mr Bacon and you both seem to be enjoying his songs.
