Not Welsh, but from NE England mining village. Now 56 and remember dad had "we all had doctors papers" in the 70s and we played it constantly. Happy memories of Max, sound of my childhood. :)

He must go down as one of the Welsh greats. He is part of the Welsh legend and Welsh team. His songs rang out at any Welsh game and was probably the biggest boost a Welsh team could have.

I never rated max untill i met him we were working on the water mains and used glynneath rugby ground where max lived as our depot in 2001 ive worked all over the the world and i told max loads of jokes ‘i can honestly say ive never met such a nicer bloke and a genuine guy ‘ i wish him all the best

Not to boast but the reason he mentions my lovely home village of gilfach goch in hymns and Arias was because my dad asked him to talk to my mam on the phone while he was flying to Scotland for the Wales Scotland game and he called my dad evil for leaving my mam home while she was ill. We still have the match ticket he signed with a message for my mam too

Being from The Valleys, all of our family also loved Max! When we saw him live, and one of the songs on the show was "Don't MOT my Cortina" we all laughed - but dad's Cortina failed it's MOT the following week!
