One interesting aspect to consider is that the more minimalistic story telling and indirect world building and lore is not a new thing for From Software introduced by Miyazaki or anything, it has been basically the signature style of story telling for them since King's Field 1.

Ultimate Weapons are also basically just some of the shoulder weapons from the much more massive Nexts. There's a non-zero percent chance this game is also part of that continuity too, the ORCA ending of 4 was to open up the way to space after all, we'll have to see.

I'm extremely pleased with FromSoft keeping the numbered title and acknowledging the previous entries instead of trying cover them up like they feel like they need to shy away from their lower budget games. The Armored Core series is solely responsible for even keeping FromSoft afloat before the Souls series came along... That'd be like saying Metroid Dread shouldn't be "Metroid 5" because it had been 19 years since the last game, but when us long time Metroid fans saw that Metroid 5 text during the announcement trailer, we lost our MINDS...

I had room for a big long range canon on the left, a mini gun on the right, plus enough room for a shotgun I could switch too if things got close. Step 1- You get a cutscene/message telling you what your 'employer' wants done, and if you're lucky, they won't lie about how much they will pay. Step 2- Spend hours on menu screens making sure your Mech is ready to take on anything, preferably on a budget, cos bullets cost money. So for that staggering mechanic, in Armored Core V you could also use it to set up some pretty devastating ranged combos as well. In that game, staggering an enemy Armored Core would stun it for a few moments and lower its defences by 20%. Some players would use high-impact missiles to stun people, then they'd fire off a fully charged laser rifle shot to deal a massive amount of damage against builds that would otherwise destroy them if they managed to get close.

the only things armored core games have never changed about their story is that its always about you, the player, being a freelance mercenary (at least most of the time) and you are put on the battefield in the midst of a conflict between robot part manufactuing mega corps (think like Boeing or Lockheed or Mitsubishi duking it out over something). You take missions from all sides depending on what suits you to gain money to buy parts so you end up constantly switching sides for your own benefit, for better or for worse. Everything else about the setting, as in why there is a conflict and what setting you are fighting in changes for each numbered title. Each numbered title also usually has sequels, like 2 has 2 Another Age, 3 has Silent Line etc.

What I always enjoyed about the Armored Core combat loop of “shoot, stagger, slash, dodge” is that it primarily only applies once you enter midrange-to-close range combat. Long range combat via sniping may not last long considering the speed of combat but it serves some of the best opportunities to get mission clears without taking damage; when you have to face opponents that in close range combat have almost perfect accuracy and race around like Sonic the Hedgehog on a Tuesday, you’ll steadily learn to appreciate bombarding hard enemies with heavy artillery - despite its ammo price tag.

Removing the number from the title actually creates more problems and confusion. It has never been a good idea unless you want to replace and forget the original. I don’t think SC6 had issues because of a number in the title. If that was the case SFV, Tekken 7, Smash Bros 4 and MK11 would’ve failed based on that mistaken assumption. Think of Mortal Kombat 9, that game is actually titled Mortal Kombat. Yet, people (including developers) have to call the game by: MK9, Mortal Kombat 9, MK Reboot, MK2011 or Mortal Kombat 2011. Similar to the X-Box and X-Box One, it makes people have the need to be more specific on which version they’re talking about in conversations. At the very least, a game title should have a number or subtitle that would be different and identifiable from other titles in the same series. It’s not that hard of a concept.

Its not a "spirtual reboot" it is a reboot which marks the 4th time in the entire series its been rebooted. 3rd if you want to believe that AC4A and ACV/Verdict Day are connected timelines. The reason its called AC6 still is because this is just the way Armored Core is in the first place, and removing that numbering would feel like a slap in the face to people who have waited a decade for a new game in the series. Each numbered title marks the start of a new timeline (with the exception of Armored Core 2, which is still connected to AC1's timeline, but simply takes place on Mars instead of Earth). AC3, Silent Line, Nexus, and Last Raven is all the same timeline. AC4 and For Answer are a new timeline. ACV and Verdict Day is also a brand new timeline. Armored Core and reboots is super commonplace.

This game will be for AC series what Elden Ring was for the souls series. A lot of new players who never played a souls game before like myself tried Elden Ring & absolutely loved it. AC series is even more underrated than souls series, I bet even majority of souls fans haven't tried the older AC games. AC6 gonna bring in new players that's 100% guaranteed its gonna break all records in terms of sales. I can speak for myself never played an AC game, I'm playing AC6 day one. I know it's gonna be super difficult but its gonna be fun 🔥

I think what I want most from this is the accessibility of Souls games-controls that feel intuitive and don't feel like they're actively fighting me. That was my biggest gripe with the PS2-era AC games growing up that ultimately made me window-shop them. I really want this one to be THE ONE that is fun to play without it feeling like I have to forget about everything I know about control layouts from generations of other titles. (I am speaking as someone who wasn't able to play 4A/V or their respective off-shoots, so if this change already happened and I missed it, please tell me with ginger)

They changed the control scheme at the end of the PS2 era games to a more traditional TPS control scheme so you shouldn't have much to worry about.

I do get this, but I hope it’s not too floaty. You ARE piloting a giant machine that needs some finesse and skill to manoeuvre and should feel that way. Say a bit of resistance but not actively fighting you. I’m a wimp for the old controls though. They felt suitably mechanical and when you mastered them it opened things right up. Not asking for that again though (though control schemes would be nice) but don’t make it as floaty like Daemon X Machina.

I found myself in possession of a Japanese copy of AC4, and the little amount of it I managed to play (while not understanding a single thing that was going on) was fucking awesome. There's nothing quite like controlling this giant mecha as you boost around at the speed of sound while firing off a billion missiles at a wave of enemy mechs. This franchise has been long overdue for a revival, and I couldn't be more hard right now.
