As a Thunderbird pilot I am reacting to this trailer of Top Gun 2 and other trailers and other types of jets and dogfighting
Fighter pilot reaction videos are awesome in my opinion. Hollywood is great and portrays flying and aviation in really cool ways. They hit the character development really well. But when you watch fighter pilot react videos I think you can get some cool insight into the real life experience of flying fighter jets.

Tom Cruise was probably like: "Hey, I wonder if they allow me to fly a fighter jet, that would be cool to do. Maybe let's propose making a Top Gun 2 movie." XD Crazy guy. You got to respect him.

I will gladly follow this Hollywood/Scientology passionate nutty guy on this love-letter to aviation(more specifically the fighter community.) bc he might be a far out dude, but he has only gotten better on film since TG1. He puts his all into these films, pretending & guessing how to best portray these elite few members of our servicemen/women. I’ve been waiting for this since it came out in 86! Air Force family; RiverRat F-4 Combat vet father & I was briefly “pointy head” on F-15C/D 390FS before my AF time came to and end. I still can’t help but get deeply moved and amazed any time I see a fighter jet in action. Kudos on the break-down video, Eagler-Driver ✊🏼🫡

Easily the best reaction to this video I have seen! What I like about your take on this (and the actual trailer), is that you are providing priceless insight from your real world experience, but you also understand that you are reacting to a movie at the end of the day, albeit a very immersive movie. I have seen so many reactions where others tear down every aspect of these trailers as if this was a documentary teaching people how to become pilots. And some almost act offended that a fictional character named Pete "Maverick" Mitchell exists, which is as ridiculous as it sounds. So I appreciate how you keep your reaction lighthearted, while giving us some awesome insight from your experience & perspective. It makes your reactions standout from the rest. Much appreciated! And keep up the great work, Sir!

Thanks for breaking this down. Your description of the love of aviation Describes how I have always felt. When I was 13 I knew I wanted to be a fighter pilot. My mom worked for NASA and I thought if I couldn’t be a fighter pilot maybe I could be an astronaut. Unfortunately my eyes were too bad to get in the Air Force and they landed on the moon before I graduated high school it didn’t stop me from wanting to fly so badly. Gun came out I lived it watched it, 50 times, had my grandson watch it every time he came to visit and he ended up going into the Navy and trying to become a pilot. Maybe in my next life but right now I’m probably gonna watch the new Maverick every day and cry. It’s just such an awesome feeling

Really awesome to see some serious and yet positive firsthand insight into this movie and the processes involved. Most reaction vids I see are fighter pilots shitting on Top Gun for various reasons, which is fair enough. I grew up in Millington, TN just north of Memphis TN. It was a town built around a navy airfield base. The Blue Angels came every year. We had the only 2 story house in our neighborhood and I used to sit on the roof and watch them practice for days before the show. Truly was a life changing experience. Thank you for your take on this film! I've seen a few 'reaction videos' covering this movie and I found yours far and away the best! You point out issues that relate to the real world of aviation rather than merely criticizing technical issues that 'artistic embellishment' can occur. Cruise is well into his 50s and a little behind the curve, age wise, to front seat without some risk involved, at a guess. The Navy made the right choice, I believe, Thanks again for your upbeat assessment.

I'm an aircraft mechanic and I used to work in the german army on the CH53 helicopter, when we were taken on a check flight and the pilot startet to do some zero-g moves. It wasn't the high speed stuff as it would be in an F18, but if your body gets that kind of feeling for the first time, you're totally swamped. I always rember the crew chief floating in the air for about 10 seconds right behind the cockpit and me starting to float above the troup seat, only held back by the strap. xD I also was on a couple of check flights in an old BO105 helicopter in the front left seat when the pilot started to do some aerobatics, when I first encountered serious negative G-Forces. And that's som nasty shit, when you get the feeling that your face is detaching from your head... :D

I absolutely know what that "rattle" is! My first experience was around 1978 or 79. My father used to be a jet mechanic in Pensacola for the Navy in the late 60s. He worked on the Blue Angeles! So he took our family to the Bremerton airport in Washington State and I watched my first airshow! Holy schnikeez it was amazing! The Blue Angeles were in formation about 20 feet off the ground...then poured it on and went vertical! WOW it made my chest rattle and made me cough....BEST FEELING EVER!!!

@@MaxAfterburnerusa I can still remember that rattle from 20 years ago. I was in the Navy as an avionics technician working on Prowlers and we were doing a Red Flag at Nellis. One shift on nights, a B-1 took off with full afterburner right in front of us while on the flight line, felt like your chest was about to cave in. Ive gone back to air shows since trying to get that rush again, it was an amazing thing to experience.

3 most memorable rattles were a F111 going vertical overhead in reheat. Concorde taking off overhead and walking next to Tri Star engines starting up as part of pushback crew. Not quite the same rattle but the whole body vibrates as each engine starts up. Amazing.

Can't wait to see this movie. I love Top Gun. I've always wanted to learn to fly. Despite the fact that I'm scared to death of heights, flying was exciting for me. I remember watching the Blue Angels and just stood there in awe of what they did. I get that feeling too when they do a low pass. That feeling, jolt of adrenaline, I compare it to when there's an earthquake here (SoCal) or an awesome thunderstorm. It's that jolt of awesomeness and a bit of fear that leaves that room for the unknown. Probably why I love scary movies too LOL. Kudos to Tom Cruise for really wanting to make sure Val Kilmer plays a part in Top Gun: Maverick as well. Val Kilmer is such an important part of Top Gun and the man has survived throat cancer and has a Tracheostomy and is still working. I'm glad to see that he'll be represented in this film. 👍😎

my father, an infantry marine in wwll and korea, learned how to fly a biplane (1950s) after he got out of the marines. He was doing dives one day, seeing how close to the ground he could get. after he landed, another pilot friend told him he had never seen anyone get that close to the ground and not crash. My dad said, "I was not worried, the altimeter still said I had 100 feet". My dad's friend said, "that altimeter is accurate plus or minus 200 feet". 😆 It was probably that air cushion that saved him. He was working as a stunt motorcycle rider at the time in a circus. Later he blamed it on the marines for removing, well beyond the limits of common sense, any fear of death. 😆

I was in the Norwegian Air Force back in the days and one day is was on my bike on the way out of the base and was on a road a few 100 meters down from the runway when an F-16 took off with afterburners almost right on top of me. "That rattle inside you..." Can 100% relate. Shortly after the Thunderbirds switched from the F-4 to the F-16, they did a show at the base my dad was stationed at. While 1-4 where doing their diamond way up high, 5 or 6 came in from behind us and blew past at a very low altitude to where you felt the rumble and the wind (but not as low as they show in this). I've never seen or felt this since. I can only assume that since the show was at an AF base they had permission to fly this low.

A large part of that was that the F-4 was a twin engine and was more powerful that the 16. My uncle was a fighter pilot. And when we would go out on the flight line (back in the 80’s when you could actually do that) there was no comparison between the F-4’s and 16’s. The 16’s growled. The F-4’s roared. And they were the best looking fighter/bomber ever made.

@@bigbore4498 Yeah, we had F-4's at our base for a while and when they came in for landings they would pass over the baseball fields. Games always paused when they did because they were so deafening. But the Thunderbird that passed low and fast from behind us was an F-16.

I can't wait to see this movie! I wanted to be a fighter pilot but the Air Force recruiter told me with all honesty that it would not be possible because I wear glasses. So with those dreams broken I went to drag-racing. That was my way of feeling the G forces. I'm sure it's nothing like the feeling of a fighter jet! There was no better feeling for me than to launch off the line to get to the end of the 1320 in less than 10 seconds. That was more than 35 years ago. There's no way to explain that feeling to someone that's never done it, but it's not something you can forget! I can really appreciate Tom's accomplishments in the movies he has done. He's also the guy who took his F-14A (the one with the problematic engine) on a 1v2 fight against USAF F-15's. The guy who after he managed to shoot off his thumb, had the surgeon sew his big toe to his hand so he could keep flying. I like the enthusiasm in your eyes. Thinking of we all started in stone age not having the technology, where does this come from? Why searching for edges and love speed. Cars, planes etc.

In 1956 a friend of mine was in the Civil Air Patrol. He was on the way to a CAP meeting when he saw a B-36 take off from the SAC base. Then another, right after it. He stopped his car, and listened to the third take off. He realized, from the sound, that they were using War emergency throttle settings. He told me he said out loud: "Oh, my God, that's a combat launch." It was the famous 1956 incident where the entire Strategic Air Command was launched, with H-bombs, against the Soviet Union.

I remember when I was in Guam at Andersen AFB I was doing a Phase inspection on one of our F-16s (we were deployed from Cannon AFB) and our hangar was at the very end of the runway. Well, what better time to launch about 18 F-16s, two at a time, full AB. That rattle? Oh yes, I'm quite familiar with that rattle. I swear I'm still shaking from it, and that was years ago. Then I worked on U-2s at Osan AB. Different airframe, but good lord those engines to a near 90 degree takeoff... You could definitely tell when we launched in the morning. The whole peninsula could!

Driving past Boeing field in Seattle, on airshow day 2, a B-1 bomber took off in full burner just as we were driving by. I told the kids I had called to tower to time that formation. We all had a good laugh, which we couldnt hear ourselves as the Lancer took off. Right. Next. To. Us. for a few seconds. LOL

Dude, that racecar analogy is something I share 100%. One day I tried to put myself on the skin of those people like you, who have experienced things like flying a fighter jet, and realized that some things seem great because you don't know better. Racing is great, it's exiting and a whole lotta fun in the proper setting; but like you said flight is just another level of excitement that can't be compared. Suggestion: Watch "Macross Plus". Both the OVA's and the Movie Edition. It's pretty fantastical but the feeling is there. The competition and the rivalry aspect I think is pretty awesome. And when you were talking about "the types of pilots" I automatically thought of this story I'm recommending.

My biggest "arousal" was at Holloman AFB many years ago. I was using the base gym while on leave and entering the base gym maybe 4 football fields from the runway. New Mexico summer sunsets are spectacular despite the brutal high temps. Holloman is a pilot training school. So, I'm pulling into the gym parking lot and hear a plane perform an unrestricted take-off. Oddly enough, I also hear the radio in the middle "Great Balls of Fire" while my body core is still rattling from the takeoff. THAT is recruit material.

Awesome videos.Top Gun one of my all time favorites. We vacation on Cape Cod and for years fighter jets would fly over ( Otis AFB) was right there was so cool. On 9-11 I was on Cape, 4 of the fighter jets flew over where I was . They went out all together like I’ve never seen and shook the back deck I was standing on. Only when I got back to CT I found out they were headed to NYC. Finally will be able to watch the sequel just have to see what network can watch it on. ( Hulu Netflix any of them) after watching your videos will really make me watch extremely close. Thank you for your service.

Hi I'm new to your channel and love the way you break down the flying sequencies. It's always great to get an insight into flying from someone who has been there and done that. I'm from the UK and have spent many an hour on the fence watching your fellow aviators flying the F15C/D and E models out of RAF Lakenheath and have experienced the rattle many times. Awesome. My question is do you give any warning to your back seater before you start pulling large amounts of G as I would imagine it can be very disorientating if you are not expecting it.

I remember when I was living in Las Cruces NM, quite often if you were driving North I believe towards Alamogordo If White Sands Missile range had any kind of testing going on they had the major highway closed till the testing had flown by. I remember one time They had it closed for about 20 min and I was out of my car waiting and I heard a loud noise and as I looked there were about 5 F117 stealth fighters that were flying right above really low, low enough that I could feel it in my chest. Pretty awesome thing. This was year and years ago before I really had a smart phone so getting quick videos or snapshots was not really possible. That Opening scene here made me think of that.

Just discovered your channel and the two Top Gun commentaries. I love it and your passion for aviation. I'm a musician (jazz guitarist) and I connect to that passion a desire to be the best you can be and be better in your craft. Very cool stuff. Much respect to Tom Cruise and the crew for making Top Gun: Maverick as realistic as possible and going through all that training. I saw it 4 times in theater (3 times in Dolby and once in iMax). It was powerful and moving each time. I also appreciate this channel witnessing the expertise and passion for flying jets. Best wishes!

@@MaxAfterburnerusa The last plane that a new pilot flies that has dual controls are the TA-4 and now the T-45. Been that way since the Navy F-4's. Your first flight in the F/A-18 will be as the passenger while you IP talks you through what he/she's doing. then you land, switch places and they give you instructions from the back while you fly. The 2 seat F/A-18's are the designated FAC-A birds since NAVY doctrine mandates that one person flies the plane while the Forward Air Control focus' on the mission of managing and directing the air support assets.

I was never a fighter pilot and always wanted to be. But I was a tank commander and I was that guy that wasn't a yes man and just wanted to command a tank for the rest of my days. I was Australia's youngest tank commander at age 21 and got my first command as a Trooper/Private. Was a huge deal for me.

***potential spoiler alert*** Only seen a few of your videos so far but love them! Watching this the day after seeing the movie and you’re spot on with your prediction of portraying maverick as the guy who challenges the status quo and tried to figure out how to be more lethal. That’s exactly how he handled the mission at hand and exactly why iceman wanted maverick to teach. I loved that part to the movie so that’s so cool to see you thought about it beforehand!

11:55 In the Growler/Super Hornet, the eject selection is ironically in the back seat. I think the bigger issue is most of the switches/buttons required for EPs are in the front seat. If you don’t have a NATOPS qualified pilot up there, it could be a serious issue if you have an emergency.
