A guy I used to work with had to follow this little old grandma after she slipped and fell. she was supposed to be on bedrest but was really running around helping her granddaughter run a cafe in Toronto. He doesn't know all the details but after that went to court the cafe closed down.

They help generate a hard-to-guess password for each site and store it - either in a secure cloud or locally - so you don't have to remember it. If you don't have to remember it, you are less likely to reuse a password, plus, many check the address to help fill in the info instead of human error where something CLOSE to the URL could fool someone. I like using one to help keep track of accounts and have seen it help someone after someone died to be able to take over their accounts to close them, notify people, etc.

In my past work I got injured. I did not know it but they had them follow me. Creepy enough with pictures inside my house and doctors appointments and everything. What surprised me too was they had gotten access to one of my social media accounts. Later on since the service logs activity I found out way later and was able to implement the password keeper. I think the freaky thing was reading their report before setting up for trial. It's actually really surprising how little things you do can be used against you. If you're injured they basically expect you to be at home or in bed 24/7. If you are not they will make everything as damning as possible. I cannot say more than that. But when Max talked about the "lovely look" it's exactly what I mean. It's taken out of context. Side note before you ask. I was not ever found to be faking anything. But here in itself is the rub. You have to accommodate for these people who assume you are guilty before proving you are innocent. Very screwed up imo

A very similar thing happened to a friend of mine - he was involved in a very serious accident and the insurance company hired a PI to follow him around to see if he was bluffing. Clearly the PI wasn't as good as Max's here, because he noticed he was being followed several times and actually thought he was going mad as a result of the stress of the accident. That made far more sense to him than the alternative explanation, which was that he might actually be worth spying on! I've spoken to a few people who work in Insurance since and they've (slightly shame-facedly) admitted that this does go on with some of the bigger pay-outs. Statistically speaking a small number of those heavy-duty insurance claims are bluffs, and it would be economically unsound not to to use Private Investigators to occasionally catch them out.

@@mrm9561 I'm Dutch and we've got quite a shitty cabinet right now, politics-wise. Many people are unknowlingly being tracked down and monitored, for being from a foreign country or for being on benefits. Some people on benefits (that fall in love with each other) also get private investigators at their houses, to check if they aren't spending too much time together. They aren't allowed to sleep in the same house more than twice a week (or something like that) because otherwise, technically, it could be considered living together and then they are recieving home-rent-benefits for the other one and could TECHNICALLY rent that to someone else. Living together however, cuts down on both benefits, so that's no option. It's either staying single or having 2 days of bliss together and then back to your own house. I know someone that's done that for a few years and it was messed up seeing her not-being-able to visit her boyfriend, knowing very well she really needed to. She lost her mom, she lost her former boyfriend, she is mentally ill, she deserves someone to hold onto at night and help with the bad dreams and the anxiety-attacks. Not just twice a night and also not at the cost of her entire benefits.

I've started to keep track of it, writing it down and the thing is, I álso get advertisements for things that are in the frame of the camerashutter. Like some brand of biscuits that are on the table or tissues when I've just finished crying about something. I have now put a blocking device on them (both my webcams) and I put my phone in my bag whenever I can. I've been called paranoid by a few, but they're slowly noticing it too. Advertisements for chocolate after they finish a conflict-conversation with a friend or advertisements for mascara after they concluded theirs is finished.

You can get a few names from their main offices in Italy, mostly consultants and press managers, but I didn't find anything for the London branch or the investigators directly I'm not really dedicated though ;)

They're not one of the more common and well known companies on the circuit here in the UK. With their main head office in Milan I'd assume they sourced the work out through sub-contractors who work the UK circuit - working for different companies as and when the work comes in. Most PI companies don't have guys working on PAYE basis.

Some more depth on the password manager advice: Using a password manager in and of itself doesn't do anything, however having the password manager remember (and enter) all the passwords for you allows you to achieve these 2 goals: 1. Using complex passwords: Humans have a hard time remembering random gibberish with special characters in it. This in turn means that a computer will be able to more easily try out all the possible combinations of passwords that humans can remember (a so called "brute force" attack). By using a password manager, you can use incredibly long passwords with numbers, special characters, upper and lower case letters, ... whatever the site you're using the password on will let you enter (though some sites will stupidly limit the length of password or types of characters you can use). 2. Using a different password for each service: Though the human ability to remember hundreds of different passwords certainly exists, it is an effort nobody wants to go through, so we re-use the same password, or variations of a password all over the place. This means that whenever Service A is breached and their database of passwords (or password hashes) is compromised, the attackers can use the password information from there to try and get into the accounts of Service B, and C, .... Using a password manager, you can set each service to use a completely different, random password, thereby making the password information from a breach of one service useless for all the others. With a password manager, all you need to do is remember one, ideally very long and complex password/passphrase, to unlock your password manager, and change all your passwords to random and secure ones once (and use the PW manager to generate a new password whenever you register for a new service). Attackers will then have a much harder time getting into your stuff without tricking you into giving them your information or actually breaking into the service itself. (Phishing attacks etc can still work if you manually enter the password from your password manager. That's where Multi-factor authentication comes into play to make those attacks harder.) Some password managers will also allow you to get reminders to change your password, or even change them for you, for added security.

One of the first things they'd do is ask their contacts if they know anything. They would both figure out very quickly that the guy they were tracking was another PI. That's already assuming they don't already know each other. Networks are tight. For someone that's on the outside of that type of business it would be almost impossible to find 2 PIs in the same city that don't know of each other already.

If there is any private investigator that sees this, if you’re following someone who so far doesn’t seem like an outright evil person or anyone with ill intent, do you help them if you see them getting mugged or something? Like what do you do if you’re following them down the street and then witness them being mugged? Would you just be a bystander? I mean it’s possible you may have even gotten footage of the mugger’s face, would you turn it in as evidence? As a Private Investigator, I keep watch of all of my surroundings when I am on surveillance. I can't speak for all PI's, but if I witnessed someone getting seriously injured or possibly killed, I would definitely intervene if I felt I could safely do it. And you don't necessarily have to blow your cover to do it either. Maybe you blow the case, but at least you maybe saved the person you're following, and they have no clue you've been following them. Sometimes, we work protection cases where someone has made threats at the workplace, and we're sent out to monitor the person that made the threats, to make sure they don't hurt anyone. In the case that they actually do go out and attempt to seriously hurt or kill someone, I've been told "we're not telling you to intervene, but we're also not telling you to not intervene." Personally, if I witnessed something happening, I would first call the police as I am recording the encounter for evidence, and then if things escalate, I would intervene because human life is more important than the client's wishes. Additionally, when I am working, I am watching everything going on around me. I do have a target that I need to follow and obtain video and photos of, but I am keeping watch on the entire area, and will report if I see something out of place. Most people don't like random people or vehicles driving and/or parked around their neighborhood throughout the day (being PI's), but when I'm there, things are a little bit more secure. Although it sucks as I can't tell people that, so they just think that I am there to commit some sort of crime, but in reality, it's the opposite. When a client orders surveillance on a subject, it's not just the subject being watched. I am watching all of my surroundings by my training and human nature so everything that is going on is at least noted mentally. Anything I see that is super out of place is reported and recorded for evidence. I hope this answers your question!

People rarely change WIFI passwords as it's annoying to reauth all your devices, so the youtuber was likely using an old already pwned password which is fairly trivial for the PI to crack with just a downloaded database of pwned passes. The Instagram I'm far more curious about as that doesn't have any security by locality and a Chinese bot would have stolen his account months ago if he was using a pwned password for that. The PI must have gotten lucky somewhere as I doubt he actually hacked him as he'd have far more than just an IG account if so and that's likely far beyond the scope of what he's legally allowed to do.
