This was an awesome test!! Today we test out the Maxi Trac 300LPM air compressor, and compare it to the Ironman 4x4 Air Champ Pro and the Harbor Freight Pittsburgh budget compressor. The Maxi Trac is rated at 300LPM which translates to 10.59 CFM, vs 5.65 CFM for teh Ironman and 1.35 for the Harbor Freight. How did it perform? Was it worth the hype? Is this the best bang for your buck portable air compressor on the market? Come see, the results blew me away!!

I have the MaxiTrac air compressor and a diy 4 tire quickflate using 3/8in hoses. I was able to inflate my 315/70R17 tires from 20psi to 36psi in 2:30. Definitely satisfied.

I have a 15 year old slime brand compressor. It came with the same cheap coil hose. Didn’t last a year. I went to lowes and got a length of hose for about $5.00. Have been running it ever since. Would highly recommend this simple cheap mod before putting it in your wife’s car. Thanks for this video. Great comparison.

Agreed. I think my plan is to make my own 4 tire inflate /deflate hose setup and then move the rubber hose that came with the Maxi Trac to the hf in the lexus. May the coiled hose burn in hell. 😁

I have the maxi trac, only used it in one outing so far. But we have 37s with beadlocks on our Jeep. I have a hose setup I made so i can fill all four tires at once. It was quicker for me to fill my tires from 7psi, and one of the other guys, plus a tire on the last guys vehicle than he could fill three tires with a arb single. So I filled 5 37s, and 4 33s in the amount of time it took the guy with the single arb to fill 3 37s. Long term though, I’ve read a lot of people say this thing overheats and breaks. It got incredibly hot, and I was in snow.

I've only used it to air up 1 tire from flat on 2 different occasions. I'll watch it on the trail and give an update if it's overheating for sure.

I just tried mine for the first time 5 minutes ago, from 15 to 40 psi in 00:55 seconds, that's incredible! I'm very happy, also went to 40 psi because there is no reading on the gauge during inflation, but i run 34, so is gonna be a little bit less time, i did the test on my 265/70/17 A/T tires, my only concern is reliability, but we'll see

Great comparison. Unfortunately I'm seeing it a year later and the NAPA compressor now sells retail for $179. On the other hand the Ironman is now down to $179 plus a 25% Memorial day sale. So roughly $134, Since I'm running an Ironman suspension I guess I'll probably go with them. Plus, my space is limited so that big NAPA unit would be harder for me to deal with. I'll just have to make the sacrifice of a minute per tire. Trust me, any of these is a lot faster than the tiny little Craftsman I've been using. Thanks again for the great content!
@EverymanOverland

The dual cylinder compressors are larger than the single, but only a bit. In real world storage situations, they'll fit mostly all the same places and take up about the same amount of room. The single compressors are still great, just not as great, but thru are cheaper for sure. If you're running 40s, I'd push you hard to get the dual, but for 33s,35s... The single will work just fine. Now to get you an inflation system too... 😁

@@EverymanOverland I'm sure you're right. It will probably be a little while before I make a move on this so I can think it over till then. Everything I see about the NAPA one is good so I may look a little closer at it. Thanks for the reply. Keep that great content coming!

So do these all screw onto the tire valve or some clip-on?
@EverymanOverland
@EverymanOverland 7 ай бұрын
All have a screw on fitting. I don't prefer that style so I purchased separately an adapter that screws in where the tire valve goes, at the end of the hose, that has the clip on style chuck. Truth be told though that is your going to be using a dial cylinder style like the maxi Trac, you'll want a 4 tire inflation system to take the most advantage of it. You're tire valves can move about 2cfm each, so the 10 cfm from a dual cylinder unit plays much better 4 valves at a time.

I’m curious how it performs against the ARB dual compressor now.
@EverymanOverland
@EverymanOverland 2 жыл бұрын
Well, I haven't had a chance to do a direct comparison myself, but.... There are a couple other videos on youtube that I have seen where they compare it, and strictly for tire inflation, it runs circles around the ARB dual. The ARB dual is I think 6.3 CFM, so the Maxi Trac is still 4CFM faster. On my 33's, it never gets so hot as to shut off, so it's a couple minutes faster than the ARB airing up all 4. Now, were you running 42's or 44's, that may change as the ARB can run at 100% duty cycle and the Maxi Trac won't. So at some point the Maxi Trac will shut off from overheating, I just don't know what point that is. Advantage to the ARB that it can operate in an environment that the Maxi Trac just wasn't meant to, and that the ARB is still available on the market. At the moment the word is that the Maxi Trac has been discontinued. Now, that compressor, no matter who's name is on it was built by someone in China. My guess is that supply chain issues will continue for another few months or year, and eventually we'll see that same compressor for $200 labelled as another brand somewhere. But for now, if you have one already, be nice to it, you can't get it replaced.

Totally agree. Especially that the Maxi Trac comes with no warranty vs the ironman that has a 1 year warranty. The hf has a 90 day, but not really a fair comparison at all. I feel like if the Maxi Trac lasts me a year before it dies, I'll be happy. Honestly though it feels every bit the build quality of any portable compressor I've seen.
