Maximum Football Open Beta Update: A Big Step in the Right Direction

Maximum Football Open Beta was just extended for another week and the devs attached some patch notes to that announcement. We examine the difference between post patch and pre patch gameplay in the Maximum Football open beta.

The beta patch was nice and a great sign from the devs. However, this game still needs A LOT of work with physics and animations. Especially with CFB2025 coming out in 3 weeks.

This looks like it's gonna be the same. 2 man animations, with wrs levitating towards the db to complete a swat animation. If the keep out the cheesy xfactors and momentum crap, it will be a better game.

Does look a bit better I'm not sure if they should just keep the beta open and get tons of feedback then again you would have to be kind of blind not to see the flaws so maybe best to bring the beta back in like 3 months. What it looks like to me is they went for a physics-based game and then realized around 3/4 of the way in or halfway in there's no way this could be done and I think that's why we're seeing a lot of this when you try to make a cut it is physics based but we're not used to stuff like that. The best you're going to get is mo-capped I guess, great idea that you want physics-based but it would be a project of monumental epic proportions that would take a team of hundreds of developers, especially with so many variables in football. They should just let go of all the physics because it's only going to hold the game back people are not used to it people don't want it right now because it's a huge deviation from the football games we know. I give them much credit but you have to go back to what is true and sound technology isn't there yet for physics-based. I don't give a rat to ass if they mo-cap a bunch of generic people. The PC community can mod it if we want the people in there I want a game that is just pure fun but I do want a franchise or at least something to play for more than one season I don't care about many games and cards and shoes and stuff that could all be added down the road. But if they don't have at least a basic franchise when it's released even an early access the game will fold quicker than if Mike Tyson hit me me on the chin. We have to stop naming stuff Early Access and such it's giving a lot of games a bad name this game has been around for quite a while now it's not like they're just getting their footing it seems like they want to do Early Access to get some funding to make the game better or add more features. If you have that much faith in your game then you know what you do you get some venture capitalist or you take out a loan and you bank on yourself as a company. Just saying any game that is not released with some sort of franchise mode even basic to show that you're trying is DOA. Absolutely no way around it.

Does Defense show what the opponent team is using as far as how many WR's TE's and RB's? I deleted it before finishing one game because of that.

The game still largely looks like it has the same problems as the old ones did. There’s way too many ways to cheese the system. Trying to play the game for real makes it look like a buggy clusterfuck with how many players jumble up in one spot. Because of this, it makes cheesing the game way too easy and neither way is an enjoyable experience. Just look at how much room there is when the QB scrambles. All of the players end up in bubbles around each other, and there’s 25 yards of empty space with no one around. I remember in the older games I would play on the shortest quarter length possible and try to run the entire clock out on just 1 play, simply to spend the least amount of time in-game as possible. Most of the time it worked, you could just run back and forth from end zone to end zone and nobody could stop you. This version is definitely a better game, and it being free definitely helps its cause. But I just really don’t see it having a lot of staying power unless they really kill it with the dynasty and franchise modes. They’re going to have to do some out-of-the-box stuff to make their game worth playing instead of CFB25

Restricting the beta to PC only is a major misstep. Plenty of console gamers could have provided worthwhile feedback. I hope they learn from this roll out and provide a beta for console players in the future. Can’t wait to see the creative features more in depth.

Nothing is ever going to be perfect.. I'm at the point where it's my belief that all this over analyzing is destroying video games. I want to have fun NOT PLAY A FUCKING REAL FBALL game. If that's the case I would go play real football

I think for me personally. I just want to play a football game where I don't feel cheated by the programming and the outcomes of plays aren't so heavily reliant on animations. But most importantly, I want the game to be consistent. The lack of consistency is what takes away the fun. Retro bowl is a blast. It's not sim or realistic. But I know what to expect. I know how to time a juke, I know when leading a WR can be beneficial and when throwing short can help you out. When the animations become unreliable, that's when the fun starts to go away.

To me the players look more realistic than madden ever had. Can't wait to play this on ps5
