As far as leg exercises, l have osteoarthritis of the cervical spine and degenerative disc disease of the lumbar spine, my squat days are over, Dougs leg exercises are not, lol.

So I have been watching these videos, ordered Doug’s book and started following his advice. Now it should be said that I am sixty five years old and been training for the better part of fifty two years. Time, in addition to some bad lifting habits have taken their toll on me but I try to work around them as best I can. Trying to change an established mindset is no easy task but I have to share this. I usually work chest, triceps and deltoids on the same day. Four sets of ten for two exercises each. Yesterday I decided to use some of what Doug has been saying and decided to do one exercise for each of the three. Those were, decline dumbbell presses, double dumbbell nose busters and side laterals. Instead of the usual number of sets, I did nine sets of each in this order and starting light and getting heavier. 20, 18, 16, 14, 10, 10, 10, 10,9. All I can say is that when I got up this morning I had the best soreness in my pecs, tri’s and delts that I have had from training in a very long time. I thought wow! Those three muscle groups were talking to me! My next workout will be Lats and biceps but I think I will have to wait a couple of days to recover. I intend to use the same process and see if I get the same results but I am really happy with yesterday’s effort and it took only about an hour all told. Doug sharing his knowledge has really changed the way I have looked at weight training and getting good workouts in without aggravating any old injuries is paramount for me. Cannot wait to dig in to his book. It is on track to be here Tuesday.

With that descending rep method, how close to failure was each set? I’d really really struggle to increase load across so many sets due to the severe fatigue accumulation, despite reducing reps. That’s one aspect I don’t quite understand from Doug’s recommendation.

I’m here from discovering Doug through the Mark Bell podcast. I was intrigued by what he was talking about. So far I’ve gone through and have watched a lot of videos on this KZbin page. Really like the content. I’m a big fan of Louis Simmons, When it comes to strength and power sports he is a treasure trove of information. I think that Doug and him are similar in that Louis is big on doing dynamic work. From watching some of Doug’s past content he says there is no need to change an exercise. However, Louis emphasizes that exercises need to be changed every 3 weeks. He states the law of accommodating resistance. The body will adapt if an exercise is not changed. This would be a good topic to go in more in depth about. Also what does Doug think about Louis reverse hyper machine? I myself always had a problem with my lower back tightening up when training. I tried everything until I found a gym with one and within months of using it the problem went away. Keep up with the content. Really fascinated with Doug’s philosophy.

Is there really a safe way to improve bone density in the spine without axially loading the spinal column ? Since direct loading of the spine is out of question , could high intensity sprinting provide some benefit due to impact forces travelling from the legs to the upper body ? Are there any other spine safe movements that improve bone density minus the risk of injury ? Would love to hear what Doug thinks about this. Thanks for all the really great videos.
@SmartTraining365Biomechanics3 жыл бұрын
Yes loading the muscles with minimum injury risk, including compressing the spine can be achieved with the BRIG-20. That's why we're saying that these movements are the most natural. Sorry I didn't get the question regarding the sprinting, which benefits?
@faizalhusein31513 жыл бұрын
@@SmartTraining365Biomechanics Could something like high intensity sprinting which cause impact forces to travel from the feet and upwards to the legs and then to the upper body have any effect in theory on bone density improvement. We know that bone density does improve in the lower limbs from sprinting. Could some benefit also transfer to the spine since the spine is also absorbing some shock of the foot landing on the ground ? Just a thought that came to my mind.

Does the Brig20 require a fully stocked gym or are there alternatives for home bodies?
@SmartTraining365Biomechanics3 жыл бұрын
Not all the BRIG-20 movements have alternatives, some exercises have 2nd best, 3rd best... but these movements are not equally efficient like the BRIG-20. It is important to know this because once you know the options you can choose what you can do based on what you have available.

Doing something for people at home without cables.... Who either don't want to go to the gym or can't.... Can you provide substitutes for some of these. Maybe they are not the best but they are doable at least. For example I could squeeze my rhomboids together and not row up the weight with a dumbell at home. Kind of like a one arm rhomboid shrug throwing my shoulders back and not rowing that affects the rear delt and bicep. May not be as good as the cable one at the gym that you do but it will give the muscle much work doing it that way vs rowing it up and getting more rear deltoid .
