I'm in the process of doing the same with my audi a4 2014, I got the fostgate p3 and after installation it, it plays excessively soft to barely make a difference. I'm wondering if the stock amp cant push the speaker
@maximusoptimusTECH4 жыл бұрын
Every speaker chassis has a specific efficiency which means how much watts it need to achieve a certain level of output. A more powerful speaker (designed to handle more power) also needs more power in order to play as loud as a “small” speaker. So the Rockford Fosgate P3 that u have used is designer to handle much more power than the one I used and of course a lot more that the stock subwoofer needs. As long as it gets enough power ist sounds better than the ones wich require less power. But when you use it with the stock amplifier it hasn’t enough watts to push the woofer loud enough. Luckily the battery in the A5 is located in the trunk so running a dedicated subwoofer amplifier using a high low converter to get the signal from the stock wires should not be a problem. Also the stock amplifier requires an 8 Ohm chassis otherwise it can damage the amplifier when used with less than 8 because when you have a lower resistance you draw more current which the amplifier isn’t supposed to handle. So I a dedicated subwoofer amplifier would not only give you a substantially better sound quality but also prevent your existing amplifier from killing itself

@maximusoptimusTECH3 жыл бұрын
Important question, do you have the B&O oder the Audi Sound System? For the B&O the amplifier is fine, for the Audi Sound you should first do the VCDS coding otherwise you won’t hear any difference. Sold my A5 so put my Woofer in my S5 with the Audi Sound System (you can see me explaining in one of the latest videos) and that’s still awesome, no need for an extra amplifier. Just the top of the shelf is fine, no need for the rest of the trunk.

man can you please explain how you did the wearing. which one did u connect with positive to which negative. I spent hour trying to understand and I cannot. I can see u connected 2 red wires with the car and one to each with the connector and then 2 - wires together ??
@maximusoptimusTECH Жыл бұрын
Ohh yeah I’m sorry I maybe will add a pdf showing the wire configuration. There are two wires coming from the car (positive and negative) and the woofer is a dual coil design. So you need to either use a parallel or serial connection of the 2 voice coils from the 1 input of the car. The original Audi woofer was 8 ohms so a dual 4 Ohm aftermarket woofer need to be in series (resulting 8ohms) rather than parallel (resulting in 2 ohms). Therefore I connected the +(car)to+(coil1) from -(coil1)to+(coil2) from -(coil2)to-(car). I hope that helps 😅👍🏻

@maximusoptimusTECH3 ай бұрын
Not sure, never tried it. The thing is that the subwoofer braces the shelf near the hole. So could be possible that it rattles if you have a big woofer in the trunk. Just try it it’s really not that hard to remove the shelf, looks like more work than it is.

Hello Do you have an diagram for how you did the wires on the sub as it has 4 wires going into the factory plug Thanks ☺️
@maximusoptimusTECH2 жыл бұрын
Just look up how to wire a subwoofer with two voice coils. The two 4ohm coils are wired in series so the impedance matches the 8ohms of the factory woofer. If you were to wire them in parallel you would end up with 2ohm. So I connect the positive Audi wire to positive coil 1, then from negative coil 1 to positive coil 2, and front negative coil 2 I connect the negative Audi wire. The Audi wires are not labeled so just try out which way it sounds better. If that wasn’t detailed enough for you, feel free to contact me on Instagram (@maxiopti) ^^

Absolutely no rattle from there, the most noise came from the trunk LED housing so secure that properly. It does not matter an which side of the metal you put the insulation, it just makes the whole deck heavier which eliminates resonance, and so the trunk looks completely stock apart from bigger woofer which in my opinion look better anyway.

@maxiopti, seriously considering this mod for my RS5, I got a Lc2i on the way and intended doing a 10" Rockford Fosgate R2 enclosure Running around 200rms (class D amp).... But now ive seen this I wonder how much better over factory this would be?, I'm looking for only a little bit extra bass and volume over existing (10% improvement to fully balance the system). In your opinion does this mod live upto that sort of expectation?. I listen to a fair bit of Keane Dysso, Moti, Oliver Heldens etc and always feel the stock system could use a little bump and a little less rattle.
@maximusoptimusTECH3 жыл бұрын
I can’t be exactly sure if the effect was only down to the subwoofer because I also sound deadened the doors with damping material. But the doors, and the new subwoofer with the alubutyl on the rear shelf all together it defeinitly was that 10% improvement. Rattle isn’t there anymore (if you do the doors definitely check the windows mechanism, and tighten all the screws you see) and the bass sound a bit louder but deeper and much cleaner especially at higher volumes. It now definitely sound like a system that is worth of the B&O badge.

how is it working out? i want to do this on my RS3 I was looking for a IB sub. I noticed the sub you use is not infinite baffle. At least the one you life is not its is made for a seal or ported box according to the manual. Only IB subs Rockford makes is for boats. Is it a night and day difference over stock?
@maximusoptimusTECH4 жыл бұрын
It’s working out great, I would not say that the bass itself is louder than before (using the identical settings) you can just turn it louder without distorting too much or rattling the rear panels. If you want a night and day difference louder subwoofer you also need a separate amplifier which I will install in future video.

Anyone doing this make sure you choose a subwoofer that is for certain designed to run free air without an enclosure. If you do this with the wrong type of subwoofer you will end up with less than ideal results and possibly damage the subwoofer.

@maximusoptimusTECH3 жыл бұрын
No, changing the sound profile works only with the basic and the Audi sound system. The B&O has a separate amplifier with its own software which you can’t even access with VCDS. But I can recommend sound deadening the doors as well for a better bass response from the mid woofers.

Okey nice man, if you don’t have the B&O system have you tried the VCDS coding yet? I’ve mentioned it in a German Video, it is basically a setting you need to change that gives you a ton more bass. And you don’t need to change the subwoofer before you do this because you don’t have that much bass anyway. Feel free to contact me on Instagram or twitter if you need help with that :D Edit: I now have an S5 with the same system as you and changed the woofer, it didn’t made any difference until I changed the mentioned setting in VCDS. I explained it in my englisch video about this Soundsystem (my second newest video)
