its most likely because you have your engine running. try it just with ignition on. also very important when connecting or disconnecting to have your ignition off

Thank you for your post, like a fool I had the engine running, in my defence the booklet said to go on motorway and stop start drives to download the cars data onto obd

I have the same problem , work only one time in my bmw e46 I scan and cleaned, weeks late I try scan again but never back to work .

Bad ODB2 port, unplug then put back holding the plug in.

The scanner is getting power so checking fuse is pointless. I'm getting same problem with another Autel scanner

Here's what I found ignition on but not engine but also one of the pins on my connector had been pushed in so carefully use pin nose pliers to pull back out or undo the four screws on back of connector the push the pin back out till you here a click, check all pins are aligned properly before plugging in voila 😁

your doing it wrong mate. Try doing it with your ignition on but your engine off. In other words turn your key as far as it will go without turning the engine on. And then start you OBD 2 up

+Simeon Wynter-Higgins its broken bought new one and that one worked ^^ tried it on 2 other cars later and met my friend who had the same one and his worked and tried mine it just got error :)
