Hello, Thanks for video. I have a p0400 exhaust code that showed up after going through an automatic car wash today, but my question isn't about that. So in section 4.2 instructions it gives this CAUTION warning about erasing codes about possibly deleting code from car onboard computer etc. I was just about to erase my code before seeing this caution warning. You didn't seem to concerned resetting/erasing your code. Is there really a chance of it deleting code from onboard computer when you reset/erase code from your experience? Thank you in advance.

I have one of these, and so far it has worked on a 2006 SS Impala, 2006 Colorado Extreme, 2006 Mustang Saleen. Will not work on 1997 Taurus SHO, 2000 Lincoln Town car. I have not tried any other vehicles but I have noticed it will not link with older vehicles. Is there something I can do to make it work on older cars?

at 54 seconds you say it can clear air bag lights but on mine which is the slightly more upgraded model it doesn't give the option, nor on my next door neighbours ms309

You actually had 2 faults listed. On the top right of the reader when you read the codes, it said 1/2. If you press the scroll key it will show you the other fault codes it identified.

Sorry if this sounds like a stupid question im new to diagnostic scanning but if you just erase codes then your not actually fixing anything so the problem with your car will get worse and your scanner will not be able to detect it because you have erased it. So it just turns off your warning light,you dont need a scanner for that

look for inpa/DIS for bmw with odb II cable on ebay cost about £30 ,if youve had a flat battery the cars /ecu modules become un synced ,and only DIS has a option to re sync (fault reads something like) retraint system fault !!! ,and it wont clear with a generic reader like this , also wont erase error codes ,generic odb scanners more than likely works on most cars apart from BMW /Audi/ VW /Seat ,or has limited functions ,doesnt detect any codes on a e60 either

At about 50 secs you say you have tried it on 30 or 40 cars and 'not had it work on one'. That means it didn't work on any! Do you mean it worked on all of them, or it didn't work on just one car - in which case what was it?

Can i ask you mate, i have the same reader, having issues with my car but its saying "there are no codes stored in this module", does this then mean there are no error codes?

I would say the problems with something the ecu dosnt control or is inside it parameters so cant see a fault with that part. Speak to your local mechanic and see if hes got any ideas.

thanks man. Yeah basically i have what sounds like plates in the transmission )not that im a full bottle on trans obviously) sorta lightly grinding or spinning touching each other is what it sounds like. I bought a new gear selector, old one was dodgey anyway but this hasnt done much. And as mentioned nothing in the computer. Its a merc benz. Have you ever come across such a thing mate? Coz to be honest im not sure round here who to ask about it without it costing me an arm and a leg.

Deon Cheesewright It could be anything a worn bearing on an external component a or tensioner bearings or clutch plate could be braking up or release bearing worn out. Or worst case the gearbox has given up and its internals have worn out, im gussing its manual and got plenty of gear box oil in? Sorry I cant help but it could be 100 diffrent things, but if its grinding It wont be electrical and be picked up by the scanner as fault code. Hope this helps a bit.

No, this guy thinks the device is for deleting fault codes. He should check what exactly the code means, fix the problem, and only then delete the code, and the fact of deleting code will stay in ECU,

I have just bought one of these. When you are describing this you said it works on air bags but then you commented saying it does not.

This was just after I purchased it and was told that it did air bag lights but it dosnt as i found out later after trying to clear air bag lights. I dosnt do anything on the srs systems of the cars but did read a abs sensor fault once. Sorry for the confusion.

I did a Alfa Romeo in one of my videos and it said there were codes and the eml light was on the dash but when trying to read them there were none then cleared them and the eml turned off. It's a Alfa Romeo thing i guess

I have the ms309 ob2 and it's the later more expensive one gives codes and tells you what it is. It's for sale you can buy upgrades for the cheap ones but I would not trust the cheaper model

Definitely (works for analog & digital mileage counters): 1) Fill up the fuel tank so its full 2) Prop the wheels up (whichever axle drives the car) 3) Start the car (its important you stay in the car otherwise it doesnt work) 4) Put the heaters on full, keep everything else electrical in the car off, dont touch the windows, keep them up and also do not touch the radio, window wipers etc 5) Now, put the car in reverse and keep the revs between 1500-2000rpm 6) Once the car has completely ran out of fuel, if you turn the car off and attempt to turn it back on again, you'll notice a huge change in the car mileage. Alternatively: x)Drive the car around the clock, so if youre on 078,000 km/miles, you just need to complete 922,000 more km/miles until you go back to 000,000...win win right?! You're welcome.

It's not much use if you dont know what the codes mean, and erasing the warning lamp doesn't cure the fault. PO is to do with your mas airflow and could be a blocked air filter so not much of a safety issue, but some people will ignore a brake system warning and just turn off the lamp.

yes it just reads the code so you can replace the faulty part.then once replaced you can clear that fault of the ecu. the ecu will just pick up the faulty part next time you start the car and put the Eml light on again if not fixed but just cleared.

crazyvtec1 also the ms309 does not give you the choice to delete certain codes it's all or none. Some codes are manufactured codes that need to stay

Just disconnect your earth off your car battery for 20 minutes,reconnect it and your engine warning light will switch itself off, No need to buy a scanner if thats all you what to do, but like i said it wont fix the problem why it came on in the first place,

You use the obd scanner to read the fault code so you can fix the faulty item on the engine. If you dont fix it and just erase the code next time you drive the car the it will put the eml light on again as the fault is still there. I had a car the fixed all the faults 2 lambda sensors and a new cat and the codes wouldnt clear even the dealer couldn't find a fault or clear the code off the ecu wouldnt always come up just on long drives then the light got keft on and flattened the battery, battery was out of the car for about a day getting charged after that the fault cleared and never returned (hard reset the ecu) but this wont fix the issue or tell you the fault.

the Maxiscan MS309 is crap. Also it is not official Autel, its a cheap clone of Autel Autolink AL309. www.autel.us/Products/Discon/al309.htm I bought one of these cause they are very cheap. It would not link to any vehicle I tried it on (96 Bronco, 98 Explorer, 04 Expedition, 00 E250. 02 E250). figured it had to be a defective unit so I warranted it out. new one doing same exact thing. Ive looked in the reviews and tho most are positive, theres alot of reviews having similar problems. my other scanners never had a problem like this
