Let's see if the Autel MaxiScan MS309 OBDII Code Reader / Scanner can turn my Check Engine Light off

I always run into the problem of my Check Engine light being on when my smog check is due. So I decided to try this Autel MaxiScan MS309 OBDII Code Reader/Scanner to see if it can turn my Check Engine Light off on my 2001 Toyota Corolla. It's "plug and play" and very easy to use! I just purchased this little guy myself. It's a decent OBD II reader and gets the job done which I like. Glad you passed. When I lived in CA it was always a pain getting my car smogged and not something I ever looked forward to lol.

Good video by the way in the UK we have MOTs every year and I use this little gadget before to erase Engine Warning Light BUT remember do it just a day before Test because the Light will come back on in a few days For old skol Ford Focus owners just forget about it the light has been in for five years and no problems fuel economy is fine

Thanks for sharing! Like I mentioned in my previous comment, my light comes back on a few days later too, even when the mechanics turn the light off. So far I’ve had no issues with the engine, so I guess it’s just something I’ll continue to deal with for now. 🤷‍♀️

I asked my old friend google it tells me: A P0171 code is set by your vehicle's powertrain control module (PCM) when it detects that the air-to-fuel ratio of your vehicle is too lean. This means that the PCM is relaying that the engine is receiving too much air into the combustion chamber and not enough fuel. And... You can usually fix P0171 using the following steps: Replace the fuel pump or fuel filter. Change the fuel pressure regulator. Replace the powertrain control module. Change one or more injectors. Replace one or more oxygen sensors. Change the mass airflow sensor. Repair vacuum leak.

Great tutorial but not good to clear error code but you should check whats code error apear and try to fix it no bendfit of turn off mil light and error code cleared

I will definitely try to find out what the code means, so I can get it fixed. But even when I took it to a mechanic before, it still did the same thing. They got the light to go off and then it comes back on about 2 weeks later 😩 Anyways, thank you so much for watching!

Ohhh I don't know... I think the package says which car years are compatible?

Most likely it's a faulty O2 sensor. It's a fairly inexpensive and easy fix. There are other things that it could be, but the O2 sensor is the most common cause and the first thing that a mechanic will change.

That’s good to know! My check engine light has literally been on for YEARS. And I’ve always taken it to a mechanic so that I could get my smog check to pass, because it won’t pass if that light is on. They’ve always gotten the light to go off, and then it always comes back on just a couple of weeks after I get it smogged. 🤔 I’m assuming this is what they have done every time, because they always have me drive it over the weekend and then tell me to bring it back to be smog checked. 🤨

I’m not sure which point in the video you were referring to. But I’m still driving it even though the check engine light is on again. Took it to a couple of different mechanics. They always get the light to go off, but then it comes back on again a few days later. This has been going on for years.

I've taken it to a mechanic a couple of times since this video. They always do something that turns the warning light off and then after driving it a couple of weeks it's right back on again. My last mechanic thinks it's a faulty or false signal since he can't find anything wrong with my car. I've been driving this car for over 20 years and still haven't had any problems with it. But it won't pass the smog test if the light is on. So this was cheaper than taking it to the mechanic again and having them turn the light off, since it will just come back on again after driving it a couple hundred miles. 🙃

@@ChristineExplores I had the same issue. The fault was fixed but the light kept coming back on even after I went back to confirm the fault was still fixed. I ended up removing the bulb and I got a fail because the bulb was out. Go figure 😁😁

Sometimes older cars are the best, but the newer technology fails to be accurate. 😅 This is a 2001 Toyota Corolla and I drive her ALL over the place and take road trips and go camping in her. So this warning light gets very annoying when it's the only thing that keeps my car from passing the mandatory smog check every other year. 🤪

Never ignore a check engine light, always take it to a mechanic or you’ll end up like me having to Buy a NEW ECM/PCM , I kept erasing the codes and it ruined my car’s computer 🤦🏽‍♀️🤷🏽‍♀️

Our emissions testing stations closed a few years ago, but the best thing you can do is to only to pass is to only get tested on a fully warmed engine. So driving around there was a good plan.
